Quit straightening everyone's hair on TV, in movies, even cartoons!!
Not the end of the world but seriously, can't they let anyone have curly hair??!!
One of the characters on 2 Broke Girls had gorgeous 3B curly hair. Every week it get less curly. It's 3A this week and by next week it will be wavy instead of curly. Still pretty, but what's wrong with the curls?? In the Merlin series - Guinevere had beautiful 3B curls. As her character gets more 'important' her hair gets straighter. Morgana, on the other hand, who is an evil character is getting curlier. So the message is - if you are bad you must have messy ugly curly hair. Ugh. And finally, they can't even leave the comic strips alone. One of the characters in Funky Winkerbean had braids/twistouts. Now that she is in the strip more often her hair is now stick straight. Grrr. And while I'm griping (hey I woke up grumpy today, what can I say. hahaha) - why hasn't NC added a HALL OF FAME forum yet? I asked for one years ago. We now have a zillion forums here but we still have to post our compliments and good things under the Hall of Shame!! Makes me nuts. Ok, whew, I feel better now! : ) |
I've noticed this too. And what is with makeovers straightening curly hair? Just watched the Today show and they were doing Valentines Day hair makeovers. One of the girls had beautiful curly hair and what do you suppose they did?.... Straightened it!!! Makes me sick.

Amen, Jeepy! On everything.
And curlisue, you're so right about makeovers - that's always the first thing they do! |

I think its more of a transformation thing since I see when they do makeovers with straight haired women they usually make it wavy or curly but its usually big loose curls

This may be true about some of the shows on TV but I have noticed a significant change in commercials. It seems every commercial I see now a'days that has black, biracial/multiracial female actors have them wearing their natural hair. I don't think this was the case even a couple years ago.... I like that. So things seem to slowly be changing.

^ I don't see commercials, but that's good to hear! Maybe it will spill over to other places in the media like tv and movies. I have seen more curlies in magazines which is nice to see.

^^ya me to but its usually the commericals on tv channels everyone sees not just BET...I thought it was kinda weird b/c its like all of a sudden out of the blue but I don't really see ppl with wavy hair :/

I love all the curlies I see on TV now. Oddly enough you DON'T see naturals on BET! They are just behind the times. No wonder I don't watch that network. SMH.

I love to watch Warehouse 13...but you should have heard my rant at the beginning of this season when they straightened Mykayla's hair....and she does NOT look good with straight hair...it's a lot more flattering to her when curly and wavy. I'm not sure why the change....but it's not a good one.

I've been impressed with all the curlies on both The Voice and American Idol - both with how many and how great so many of them look.
Now let's see how long it takes them to start straightening. |

I hate reality tv but my sister loves it and I sometimes watch with her, usually the first and last episodes of a season. All of the 'talent' shows on tv seem to change their contestants. In the beginning everyone looks different and like individuals. But at some point they will straighten their hair, lighten it usually, and make them all look more alike. I don't get it.

The past 2-3 seasons Idol hasn't seemed to be nearly as bad about changing everyone as they used to be.
I didn't watch The Voice much last time, so I don't know if they did or not. |

I think that this is a great discussion, but its really all just talk. I think we should focus more on coming up with a plan on how to change it.. Like, i think us curlies on the west coast should have more meetups like they do on the East coast.. Ive posted in the meetup section to have something in los angeles, but nobody has responded.. Does anybody agree with me??
