What happened to all types of hair being ok. it seems like this lank straight look is lasting a long time, and salons use a picture of a normal looking woman with lovely natural curly hair as a "before" picture! then straight hair as the after picture? not to be critical but there is an ad on this site for straight hair shampoo and conditioner, is this a reflection of society at this time, uptight, narrow minded, like how skirt lengths show how society is feeling? Gooday all.

Non-straight hair is known to be a deviance in many societies. It'll take a long time before it'll be just as 100% accepted as straight hair is. I say, be patient, my dear, our time shall come!

Meanwhile, I'm going to wear my curls with pride. If that makes me a rebel, then go ahead; being bad feels good, anyway.

I have to say that in all the "before" pictures I've seen, the curly hair never looks beautiful, it always looks wild and frizzy and unruly/unkempt.
I mean, I don't find unruly hair ugly, because mine is very often unruly, but what I'm saying is, the before pictures are rarely gorgeous, glossy, perfect natural curls. Sometimes the "after" pics are.

I think it's because it's the easiest "change" a salon can do to a client.

In other words, "laziness."

I agree with ninja dog. I think it's laziness, and lack of knowledge on styling options for curly hair other than straightening.
