Default No Curly Friends :\

I am the only whirly girl in my friendship circle or anyone I know and are good friends with. I only have one friend and she has 2a waves, but straightens them out. The only person who I am friends with that has curly hair at my school is my sister. So you can imagine how I feel like I don't fit in..

The girl with the 2a waves told me the other day: she stares at me for about 3 seconds and says "I wanna see what you would look like if I straightened your hair and put makeup on you, you would be so pretty!!" My heart sank, I loved my whirly hair! Junior year of high school I decided to stop straightening my hair and putting makeup on. I decided I'd give my hair a break from the flat iron and let my acne covered skin breathe. Within a month my skin was clear and my hair was so pretty!! It just hurts that something I have totally shunned is brought back up... Not to mention she tried combing her fingers through my hair, when it was dry!! It hurt and broke some of my hairs. Ughh..

Anyone have any curly friends that they can turn to? Or are you stuck with straight friends?

Experimenting, as usual. I've found that these products work well:

Low-poo: Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat shampoo and KC Come Clean shampoo
Cowash: CJ Daily Fix
RO: KCKT, DC OneC,
LI: KCKT (rarely used as a LI)
Stylers: CJ CiaB, KCSS, and homemade flax seed gel (FSG is a total HG btw!!)

Chopped off 12 inches of my hair on 3-22-14

The only other curly I know is the girlfriend of a guy I know. Her curls are like 3a/b and they're amazing. I posted a link to a how to CG guide on her facebook XD

Well you've got lots of curly friends here, that's for sure! I do know what you mean, there aren't many textured haired people that I know of, but luckily I don't get many negative comments about my hair, it's more of a novelty to many people I know (your hair looks lovely in your siggie pic btw.) Don't let the 'knockers', get you down. You have a refreshing attitude in being who you want to be and not bowing to peer pressure and you've always got like minded people to relate to here who appreciate how lovely natural tresses are.

Best wishes.

I'm the only curly girl in my circle too but I had a friend with 3b/3c curls but she moved away the other girl with waves straightens all the time. I want to hold her flat iron hostage lol

I'm the only curly in any of my circles of friends. It really doesn't bother me- I'm the one that stands out in the group and I always get a lot of compliments on my hair.

Stuck with my stick-straight haired best friend, luckily she never comments on it, but I wonder if that's good or bad... The only other curly I know is 10 years old and her hair forms into three or four ringlets down her back, and my bff is obsessed with that child's hair, which is kind of insulting because when the little girl told me she liked my hair much more, my best friend was like, "Well, I like Emma's ringlets...because they're less curly than yours." LOL thanks?! Other than that I am fine with her, but the obsession with the little girls hair is seriously annoying.

Perhaps its an age situation? When I was in my teens and 20s, people did comment on hair, and make comments similar to your friend's, ie., "I want to see what you'd look like if I straightened your hair, you'd be so pretty" - which is very rude, but your friend is oblivious to how rude that actually is to say to someone. If you turned around and said, "I want to see what you looked like with your rude mouth taped shut" she'd probably gape at you cluelessly.
But in your 30s and 40s, I don't think people will say things like that to you. Not as much of a consolation I know, because hearing something like that is hurtful. You can say something back, you know, and let her know you find that hurtful to hear, and that if she's a friend, she won't make comments that are insulting to you and hurtful about your appearance. Ask her if she'd like you to dissect her appearance in the same way.
I used to get comments in my teens and 20s that I don't get now that I'm the ripe old age of 40 Of course, now I have little grey curls popping up here and there. Not sure which I hate more...

I'm the only natural in my circle. Except for guys. And I am fine with that. My step daughter has SOOOOOO much new growth it would be easy to just go NATURAL!! Seems like she'd be a 3c or 3b, but all she wants is a perm. SMH!

My BFF is 3b/c and another friend in our circle is 3a/b but that's all. My BFF would be considered mod-CG the other is too lazy. I gave the other friend the first CG book years ago because I was so horrified that her once beautiful waist length curls were so dead. It was too much effort for her.

I'm pretty much alone as well. I work with some wavies who could have potential for better curls, and another girl who is curly on top (big wavy/spiral curls) and almost completely straight underneath. I wouldn't say they all butcher their hair with blow dryers and straighteners but they don't really know how to style their natural waves/curls either.

You've got us!

I have curly kids & wavy and curly friends, but I'm the only one who is fascinated by curl care, products, and different styles. I love this site.

Thanks gardencurls. :]

I'm the only one obsessed with curly hair, products, and all that too. I'm just waiting for that day when another curly comes up to me and says "CG?" and I'll be like "CG!". I've actually considered saying that to some curly haird people jut to see if they knew what I was talking about.

I was actually thinking about this today. I have a few but none that I see regularly and only one that doesn't straighten her hair at all.

I don't have any curly friends, either. Now that I think about it, I don't really have any friends.

I'm an old curly girl of 55 and there isn't one other female in my group of friends with natural hair.
When I went to my last class reunion a couple years ago I was 1 of the few women with curly hair, 1 of the few with undyed hair, and 1 of the few with long hair. I was the ONLY woman with long gray curly hair. I got many compliments from men and women that weekend.
Although I did hear one of my best friends remark that she couldn't understand why anyone would leave the house with gray hair. And that long hair doesn't look good on people 'our age'. I just laughed. I like being different than everyone else.

I'm in the same boat. Unless you count my husband, but he is definitely not interested in hair and other girlish things (though I don't necessarily think I'm very girlish).

I bet your hair is gorgeous! I've always wondered why so many older women cut off their hair. Its like the older women get the shorter the hair gets. My mom has super curly hair but she keeps it cut waayyy short. Like a pixie cut but not. I would love to see her hair grow out.

All of my friends either have straight hair or curly hair that they relax. The ones with relaxed hair regularly compliment my hair, but they wont stop relaxing. One of them tried and she relaxed again after about 2 months. I plan on being natural and letting my hair grow as long as it will. I get a lot of the 'you should straighten your hair' comments too. On one occasion it came from a coworker that I dont like and my response was 'nah, im not insecure about the natural state of my hair so I dont need to' Not saying that every curly who straightens, relaxes, or does keratin is insecure, but this particular person is.
