I had an interesting encounter recently. A guy at a straightener kiosk stopped me asking what I did to my hair and I told him I just shower. He asked to show me his product to which I said "sorry, I don't use heat on my hair." I expected protesting and instead his response was "Finally a real girl. Don't change your hair, it's beautiful. I'm just paid to stop all the girls with curly hair."

The fact someone pays another person to pick out a target group to change like that--shame. The fact the person actually does it in the way he does--shame. The fact that he tells girls who refuse that they have pretty hair and doesn't press the issue--not shame. (:

Absolutely! I have been stopped many times by the friendly straightening men. The last time I was stopped I told the gentleman that I like my curls and that I don't want to look like everyone else, I like being me. He didn't say anything. But, my 9 year old daughter did. She said 'Yeah, I like my mom's curly hair. I hope I have get her curls!.' That about sums it up. And we walked away.

One of those repulsive cretins stopped me and convinced me to straighten just one lock on the underside of my hair. She pulled the iron through my virgin 3B lock down to the very end where it tangled and frizzled.

She had the nerve to say it would look better but my hair was damaged and I needed a trim. I almost punched her up the side of her head!

MAJOR side-eye to the "Finally, a real girl" part. He's paid to push his straightening product by preying on women's insecurities and politeness training and he's disparaging the women who aren't "real" enough not to be bullied into a trial or sale. What a creep.

Agh I hate it when those people walk up to me! I always try my very best to be polite but they second they insult my hair I lose it a little.

I get that it's their job but how dare you make me feel insecure about my lovely curls! They ironic thing is on one side they are telling curly girls "hey come straighten your hair" and other the other they are saying to straight hair girls "let me show you how to curl your hair" I think it's awful when they try and make girls feel bad about themselves and I've had quite a few of those people say really nasty things about my hair!

Once a girl with naturally curly hair (it pretty curly too like 3c ish) try and sell me one and I was like"Aaw you too? I thought us curlies were meant to be on the same side!" lol

At least this guy was able to accept your refusal and compliment you!

The last guy that tried selling me that product I literally ripped it out of his hands and threw the damn thing towards the other end of the mall. I ended up having to pay for it, but I had a great time doing it : )
