At the End of the Day, I'm Still Left Dumbfounded

I was sitting in the barbershop today (don't worry, I was there for a line-up and beard-care, not to cut the curls off), and this lady walks in and says hi to the barbers. I looked back down at my phone, but apparently, she turned around and started walking towards the area where everyone waiting to get their hair cut was sitting.

She walked up to me and said "Hi". I reciprocated, and then she said "I really like your dreads." I looked at her blank-faced and said, "I don't have dreads..." (I wasn't trying to embarrass her). The barbers were laughing in disbelief. Then she said, "I like your braids". My mouth dropped open a bit more, and I said, "I don't have braids...", and she said, "Well, I really like your hair.", which I replied to with a "Thank you." I realized how that must have looked, so I tried to show her by saying, "Yeah, I don't have dreads. See?", and ran my hand across my head. She then went on with asking my name, age and talking about trying to make friends, and the conversation went on for about 30 seconds and she walked out of the shop.

At first I thought she was slow or something, but her speech pattern and her whole appearance made me think otherwise. I became even more confused when I thought about how she was standing up in front of me while I was sitting down, leaning forwards. She could see the top of my head with ease. I had my hair slicked back into a ponytail, like this:

So, yeah, I'm still very confused at what happened here. At first, I did start to think that it may have had a little to do with her probably not knowing about black hair (she was white), but then there's the fact that she was right in front of me and my hair was in perfect view. Did she have bad vision? Yeah, she must have had bad vision...
Maybe she somehow wanted to connect with you but doesn't know anything about hair?

Maybe she thought you were super attractive and was just tongue tied and like claudine said maybe she just didn't know what to say. People often say "I love your perm" and I just reply "It's my natural hair but thanks!"

Out of like 6 guys sitting over with me, she started a conversation with just me. Or maybe it was because I looked closest in age to her? The wonders shall never end.

This.

Most people have no idea what they're looking at if it's outside their comfort zone.

That is all.

If I thought a guy was attractive, I would compliment him......and when I was younger, I might have done so regardless of sounding silly (which is partly why I don't do it anymore).

The question to me is, what was she doing in a barbershop despite not knowing the names of various styles?

Only saw a guy who had remotely anything like that style I posted above there last week. Everybody else tends to get a modified fade of some sort (even in the picture they have on the wall of me, I have a fade, lol).

All I had was a wavy ponytail though. Her hair was wavy and just hanging off of her head.
My guess is she was drawn to you, like I said, but the only women I know who go to barbershops either work there or are moms or girlfriends.

She was attracted to you, and trying to connect like others have said. She was just clueless about hair and awkward. Who hasn't said silly things when trying to make a connection with someone? Take it as a compliment!

Definitely agree with a white person not knowing a thing about black hair. Even though it's quite obvious you don't have dreads or braids. Why she was in there, and why that conversation happened - you will always wonder It is a bit baffling, that would plague me for years.

It's so rare to see a random girl hitting on a man in public. You must be doing something good kek
