May not sound like much of an insult but it really erks me, because i get this at work several times a week and it's normally from bitter women and they always argue with me about it insisting i just tell the truth...they think my hair is a perm. They say "oh it looks like a fresh perm to me, i don't see how that's natural curling out of the root like that" blah blah. Really pisses me off.

That's what i say! I'm never one to just assume someone is jealous but come on...that's just ridiculous. And they're unfortunately customers so i can only say so much. :/

I remember this one time this girl I know came up to me and said "I think you would look good in a weave, I have a style in mind". The nerve!!! I politely told her that I was happy with my natural journey and my natural hair. It pisses me off when people try to tell me what's right or looks good on me! God gave me my hair so obviously it's right for me. But I find it funny that now she's wearing her hair natural.

this is a really good thread.. sad because you all have beautiful hair, but also makes me realise then that people will say stuff regardless.
Almost every time I go out, somebody makes a comment about my hair. Usually neutral.. but i don't like it, things like 'you have very big hair', 'you have a lot of hair'.
last time i went out for my birthday, i felt alright looking, but i got a lot of comments, somebody even said i looked 'crazy' because of my hair. Didn't appreciate that,
one boy came up to me just to tell me that i had' beautiful hair, weird but beautiful'
Being me I was most concerned about the weird, how was it weird? it was just curly? I looked around and noticed that most people where i was had flat or straight hair. It is rarer to have curly hair, but I personally think it looks lovely on others.

I imagine "weird" just meant: "different from the rest". Concentrate on the "beautiful".

One girl came up to me when I had straightened my hair and says, "Oh! Your hair looks so pretty! Wear it straight more often, it's not all poofy!"
This other time, a girl came up to me and said "Your hair must take so long to do in the morning, it's so pretty!" Thinking it was a compliment I replied it took me about 5 minutes. She laughed and said "It takes you 5 mins to curl every hair on your head. I'm not stupid." And she walks away... I don't know why that bugged me- it just did.
Another time, I over heard a girl talking to her friends (see a pattern here, it's all girls). She's going on about how ugly my hair is. She even mentioned my name. I'm the only one with my name in my grade.
My dads even said some mean things Some of these aren't big des, but they've stuck with me.

I think I can top that. A couple months ago someone asked me if I was "bringing back the 70s/80s man perm?" I was floored. Uh, yeah, I'm going to spend money getting my hair to do something it can do on its own. Though I was tempted to get one in the 80s but I decided against it.

I have been wearing my hair down in its natural texture for about 6 days now. Every day, my dad has been telling me I look like a madwoman and should put my hair back in a ponytail.
Granted, I haven't started CG yet (will start today!), and my hair generally looks much better curly/wavy when it is substantially longer than it is now. But I'm sick and tired of spending my whole life with my hair in a ponytail, so I'm hoping CG minimizes the poofy factor and gives me more defined, controlled, less frizzy curls.

It is especially hurtful when your family isn't sympathetic and supportive. Sorry this happens to you.

"you look like a poodle"
Although it was meant to be endearing... I didn't really appreciate being compared to a 4-legged domesticated animal. lol :/

Being 50 years old now and having had curly hair all of my life, I have had my fair share of hurtful comments regarding my hair. However, the one that seemed to hurt me the worst - and the one that I remember the most clearly came from my then boyfriend's, (now husband of 32 years), step father. I had never met the man before, and I have not seen him since as he was murdered shortly after I met him...
Anyway, I had spent the better part of the day mucking out my horses stalls. It was a muggy, hot humid summer day in Dallas and I am sure that I looked like total crap. I knew that I was dirty, sweaty, smelly, and tired. My boyfriend pulls up at the stables with this man in the car with him and pops out saying, "Hey! I wanted to introduce you to my dad - we were out this neck of the woods and decided to stop by to see you" The man took one look at me, started to laugh like a loon and said, "whoa girl, your head looks like a brillo pad - you need to work some baby oil thru that mess - and you need a long hot shower, too, because you stink!"
Perhaps he thought he was being funny. I, on the other hand, was completely crushed and mortified. Seriously, what kind of grown man says something like that to a 16 year old girl he has never met before??

My older sister who has curly hair but uses a lot of hair products (nothing wrong with that but I prefer minimal or no product) tells me to brush it wet. I know that that causes breakage and I am keeping my hair as healthy as possible but she doesn't understand. Ugh! Plus it goes back to how it is naturally anyway...she says we have the same hair but we don't! Both our hair may be curly but each texture is different! Mine is curlier I think and is a mix of curls and waves. People need to keep their opinions to their selves!
My friend Michelle always tells me to let her straighten my hair (which implies she doesn't like my hair curly I guess) and offers to put bio-silk in it. I tell her dude curly hair frizzes end of story lol and smoothing serums don't seem to fix that for me. (They just make it greasy!) She has curly/wavy hair too but straightens it every day. I myself have been rocking my natural texture since I finished high school and almost never straighten it.

We all have haters. Even Kobe Bryant (the best baller ever) has haters, so no need to worry.

For the most part, everyone loves my hair now. But I've "trained" it. It's kinda CG now. I don't do too much to it. But what hurts is when they insist that I'm another race. Im African American. But it's hard to believe for ppl I guess. My hair is type 3. My daughter goes thru the same thing. They are determined to find us to be mixed with something.
