I found this article during a search for naturally curly hair and I am shocked!!! This is horrible!!! DRY your hair then BRUSH....NO WAY!!!!! Most curly girls shouldn't even own a brush!!!

If you have the ability to naturally curl your hair, meaning you have naturally wavy or slightly curly hair, it is fairly easy. You don't have to do throught all the hassel of using curling irons or curlers. You don't have to pay sixty bucks to get a perm, but you do have to spend 5 minutes in the morning.

InStRuCtIoNs

1. When you get up, take a shower and use a shampoo and conditioner that help curls or give you volume.

2. Dry your hair, carefuly brush it, and comb in a leave-in conditioner. (Skip the leave-in conditioner if you have really oily hair)

3. Work in a curling, anti-frizz, holding mousse and tightly scrunch your hair with your hands.

4. Spray a light coat of hair spray and scrunch some more to lock the curls in place.

Once you are satisfied, congratulations! You now have a way to easily transform limp, wavy hair in to oodles of noodles!

FRIZZ AND BIG HAIR!!! Really, a wide tooth comb on wet hair is all the "brushing" you should do for the best curls, unless you are straightening your hair, then it would be alright to use a brush.

I'm not sure why people are against brushes or think they cause "frizz and big hair", either. I have big hair either way - a wide toothed comb ain't gonna make it small, and I don't care. It can actually get bigger from combing than brushing.
A wide-toothed comb is great for spreading conditioner through wet hair, but for me it would never detangle my hair on it's own. I need a variety of tools - picks, fine combs, brushes, etc. to get out knots, and my fingers of course. I use a routine similar to the one posted except I don't scrunch or use hair spray. Scrunching makes my hair HUGE, and tangled.
As to frizz, nope, a brush doesn't do that to my hair. It does separate curls and make it feel super soft and in more tight s waves/spirals than corkscrews. It also spreads oil and product evenly through the hair, loosens tangles and feels so darn good! I brush whether or not I'm wearing my hair straight, especially at night.
My relatives - everything from 3a to 4b all use brushes all the time. I see no reason why we shouldn't own them!

I dont own a brush either. I have a wide tooth comb in the shower. I put on conditioner and comb it there, then rinse. I also let it dry naturally, unless it's really cold. (I'm in Michigan) then I use a diffuser and scrunch my curls to life. Works great for me!!

I own a few brushes from my straightening days, but they're for display purposes only .

Actually, I'm glad that I didn't get rid of them. I blow-dried my hair straight this past December, so I used my brushes for the first time in a long time!!! Mmm ... it felt so good on the 'ol scalp! :angel:angel.gif

the bold hairtypes above can usually get away with brushing and blowdrying to get the "straight hair with curled ends" look or just have soft loose curl types. i'm pretty sure this is what they were talking about, since i know several wavy-haired and looser curly-haired girls who get away with this. JMO

and i can see both sides of the brush debate. it depends on your hair... we're all different...

I had to stop using brushes, except for when straightening my hair. It made my hair get very bush and nest-like, as it broke apart my waves curls and made them mesh into a mass of uncomely frizz. I only use a comb after conditioning in the shower. I don't even put my fingers through my hair once it had dryed!

But you have to own a brush!!! What else are you supposed to sing into when a good song comes on the radio?!?!?!
Anyway I only brush my 3b/3a/2a hair when i'm trying to look stupid. I just get a big ol' mess, never fails.

Let me explain, the youth in my church every year go to a girls' camp and go crazy. The first year I went, I was swimming in the lake and came out with my hair all wet and I wanted one of the older girls to braid my hair. She pulled out her brush and started going at it. Well, as she brushed, my hair began to dry. Ever stroke of the brush brought more volume to my hair. They had never seen anything like this...it was GREAT. They took a bunch of pictures with them hiding behind my hair and poking their faces out. Since then, it's become a annual tradition for me to 'fro my hair at girls' camp.

Ok, one vote for the other camp: If you brush my hair and then work in conditioner and curling balm (or whatever)--like the instructions say--it will curl. It would probably be a bad idea for a 3B, but it may work for some people like me.

I only own a wide-tooth comb.....and I only comb it when it's wet, when I'm combing conditioner through my hair. Once the conditioner is rinsed out, no brush or comb comes near my hair.
