post your compliments

I just did the BC recently. I couldn't take it anymore trying to transition from relaxed to natural.

I got so many compliments! And most were from people of another race, that had straight hair!

my old supervisor: "D, your hair is so pretty. I like your hair cut."

friend at work:" you look so pretty- so much younger!"

mother in law: "Why were you always wearing those big wigs hiding your face?!?? Your hair is pretty- look like a little girl!"

another friend: "Wow it's so curl. Don't relax your hair anymore."

And of course DH: "just stay natural. don't meess with it."

Well, today someone actually close to my age said, "You have the most beautiful curls I've seen in my entire life!"

It made my day
My most recent compliment was similar to pineapple's.

When my hair was quite long (hanging to my waist when dry!) people would reach out and "sproing" my hair, even strangers behind me in line at the grocery store. (like I wouldn't feel it or something???)

Innyhoo, it's finally starting to get long again, and at my friends' wedding a few weeks ago, I felt a sproing. I turned around to see an elderly man standing there with his wife (who had curls), and instead of apologizing or looking sheepish, he beamed at me and said, in complete awe, "You have the most beautiful hair." What could I do but smile and say thank you?

It really did make my day. I like to keep memories like that saved for when I'm having a simply wretched hair day, and it helps lift my spirit just a bit.

I LOVE HENNA!
all the old ladies love my hair. xP
"is that your natural hair!? oh i'm so jealous!"
"no way that's real! that must've been a perm! I want hair like that too.."

and closer to my own age group..
my sister tells me my hair is hideous whenever I straighten it, which I guess is a compliment since it means it's not ugly when it's curly. =p
and once some random kid told me my hair smelled nice. must be all those curly styling products i use. xD
my hair is mostly 3b, but underneath, I have a few 2b areas.
My friend recently got a wavy perm, and didn't like the results. She said, "I would kill for your hair!"

It made my day. =)
I have several people wanting to play with my ringlets which I quite like, one time I had a group of people standing around me taking it in turns. That was a little weird though!
I just started going out with someone that I have known for years, yet haven't seen in years. I wear my hair natural and always gets compliments on it. He says that he has always like my hair and loves it so much more now because I wear it down and am very happy rocking my curls.
3c/4a...sometimes frizzy, always beautiful!
My friend and I went to the beach (back in my straightening days). I jumped in the water with him and when I got out my hair was ubercurly. He said "damn, you're hair is awesome!"
People are always asking me "where do you get your perms" and when I tell them that it is natural then they say "there is no way that is real! you're lying!"
Also, I work with children and I wore my hair straight one day and one of the kids came up to me and said... "Where did all your hair go?" and she was pretty upset about it! I thought that was so cute!

The guy who didn't want to date me, just be a "fwb" I guess, emailed me today to tell me that he was stalking me online now and reading my posts here (probably is reading this one too) and said that I looked better with curly hair.

Nice compliment, but isn't that a bit creepy? Especially since I live 1000 miles away and have been gone a year and a half.

Some people I know through ebay saw me for the first time without straightening the other day and they said "oooh it really IS curly"... although being that they are southern women I never know if it is a compliment or what
almost a year ago, back in the days when my hair was not in good shape at all, I went on a weekend trip with my youth group. There was this boy there, his name was Berry and he is the sweetest boy on earth. Anyways, I took a shower one night and I came down, I don't use anything in my hair at all, well now I'm trying to go cg so Im starting to, but it used to be just shampoo and conditioner. So I took my shower and came down to where everyone was sitting and talking and Berry looks at me and says, Emily, your beautiful, and you have absolutely beautiful hair. ( he and most of the kids there were used to seeing me with my hair in a bun). Later that night we had an afirmation circle and we're supposed to say like a few nice words about eachother but he started about how much he loved my hair and how beautiful it was and it made me feel so good. Most of the people at our school are straight and plain and he thought it was so nice that I embraced my natural curl how I did.
Should get you to my fotki, if not tell me:

Northern Colombia.
Oreomakemehappy- If the southern women said, "Your do have curly hair! Bless your heart!" THEN-you know it is NOT a compliment. I used to live in SE KY and that was everyone's way of giving a back handed compliment in little ole London, KY.
Well the the other day to MY SHOCK and amazement someone told me I had great hair and she assumed I get that a lot. I didn't think it looked good AT ALL it was all windblown and a mess! We don't always see ourselves the way others do that's for sure. Also, our very own whastercurl (bless her heart) told me and I quote "I was just looking at your latest pics. Your hair is really looking amazing. The colour and waves are just gorgeous"! I've been tweeking my routine (with her help and others here) and seeing some subtle changes but it's hard to judge for oursevles!!!

The biggest although most cliche compliment that us curly girls get a lot is "Oh, I really love your hair. It is so beautiful and I wish that I could have hair like that!" I always just say thanks, because so many people say that, but now that I think about it, it is such a great, nice thing to say :-)
I've received quite a few compliments since I've really started to take care of my hair. Some of the best are here on this site and on my fotki. The best real life situation, however, is written below.

A few days before my wedding, I was standing in the mall parking lot with my maid of honor and her mom. We were talking before we went our own separate ways when we saw this lady and what appeared to be her young teenage daughter walk by and say what sounded like "beautiful." I didn't really pay much attention to it because I didn't know they were looking at me.

About half a minute later I notice they'd turned around and walked up to us. The mom then starts asking me what I use in my hair and how I take care of it. She said her daughter (who had beautiful 3b/c hair) hates her hair and keeps wanting to straighten it.

I told her she has beautiful hair, but how I hated mine too, when I was her age. I then told her about how the last time I straightened it, the hair on the top of my head broke off and I only had about two inches of hair on top. (The rest was OK for some reason.) I told them about Mixed Chicks and Blended Beauty, but how all products work differently on different people. I then told them about naturallycurly.com and I sincerely hope they at least checked it out. I was really so happy to see a mother embracing her daughter's hair and trying to deal with it and I felt so awesome that she thought I could help! That totally made me day!

After they left, my friend told me that I'm a curly poster child and Mixed Chicks should pay me. Ha ha! I wish!
I have 3c hair that I haven't straightened in over 5 years. It's just past shoulder length when dry, and almost waist length when pulled straight.

Products:
9/02/08 Went CG
05/12/09 Still CG. Cowashing with VO5 Lavender Luster. I then condition with Giovanni Smooth as Silk. Styling with VO5 Lavender Luster conditioner with my wide-toothed comb.

Ooh, I have had the stranger 'boinging' the ringlets experience so many times!! How do other people deal with it?? I find it's generally drunk girls in pubs, but occasionally in shops and things too. And they say English people are reserved It's like they just can't help it... they say "your hair... so curly..." and you can just see them stretching out to ping a ringlet!! I just hope no-one ever tries when I'm in a really bad mood or I may punch them on the nose

As for the best compliments, they always come from kids because they're so honest! My old class were obsessed with my hair, always telling me if I was having a good day or not, and I got given a beautiful hand drawn cartoon (from 8 year olds); one side, 'teacher; normal day' (lovely ringlets), other side, 'teacher; bad hair day' (crazzeeeee hair). Cute cute.
And really, none of them has ever said anything mean about it (and they are plenty mean about other things... best insult EVER has to be 'miss, um, you know, I think you eat too much' which is probably true but still!)
3b or c? Very fine hair but lots of it!

Newly CG (ish) and loving it so far, currently using Original Source to Co-wash, Australian Organics to condition, Trevor Sorbie curl cream and shockwaves gel. Weekly sulphate free shampoo.
One of the best compliments I ever got was before I went on stage for my latest show. I was sitting in the greenroom, relaxing and focusing and one of our techies came up to me and just started gushing about how much she loved my hair. I got the usual "is it permed? Can I touch it? What did you use on it?" questions but I loved the fact that it came from a girl who was a hair stuffer. (you know, the straight haired girls who rat out their hair for volume)

She also said that if she ever went bald, she would paid me thousands of dollars to get a wig of my hair.

It was really nice, especially because I wasn't feeling the most confident about my hair that performance!
3b with the occasional 3c thrown in for excitement

Would kill for second day hair!
