Straight hair is prettier..white people are prettier??

Caucasians can have curly hair. The Irish is one group I can name where curls are seen every other person or so. Some are born with straight hair too. I blame this back to the ancient days where the Caucasians didn't want others to intermix with slaves so they viewed curly hair as African American and therefore ugly and unwanted. So curly haired Caucasians denounced their curls to avoid being like an African American and deem that only those of African descent can have curls, opposite of their society imposed view of beauty. That's just my little two cents.

And that's a far off theory.

You spin me right round baby right round~

Not on CG method.
I'm not sure that curly was seen as a black/slave trait back in the 1800's. Here's a picture of Empress Eugenie (France) and her ladies from the 1850's or 60's. They're obviously not natural curls, so I think it shows how curls were fashionable then. And the ladies in America followed their fashion lead.

as much as everyone loves to deny it that is definitely what it boils down to. No one seems to know that for one hundred years in Louisiana black women were not allowed to walk outside without a bandana over their heads? Does anyone think that maybe that is reason why everyone is so obsessed with straight hair and not because curly hair is "unmanageable" and whatever else piss poor excuse people try to make for changing it? I have four little cousins. Two are almost black with a little bit of Spanish in them and two are almost white with a little bit of black. Ask anyone in my family which two sisters is prettier and they'll all tell you the same answer even though I think the black sisters are the most gorgeous girls I've ever seen and definitely prettier than the white ones. But you know what, I'm even done preaching about it.
OMG! this just happened to me like an hour ago at school. So I'm currently transitioning and I had my hair box braided for the past 2 months. I'm taking a salesmanship course for my major Retail Management and my professor said that we have to look professional when it's time to present our projects. I already knew that I was gonna have to do something with my hair because braids are not considered "professional" especially for Sales. I was gonna redo my braids since I had a lot of new growth. But I changed my mind.

So I took out my braids NOT because I needed it straight for my presentation but because I needed to give my hair a break from the braids. This morning, I saw my professor, who is Caucasian, and she said to me and I quote "Good Morning! Woooow, your hair is sooooooo beautiful!... Woooow, what a beautiful girl... Her hair is so beautiful!"

I'm like WTF?!? So just because my hair is pressed straight and its all bouncy from my roller set all of a sudden I'm BEAUTIFUL?! Soooo when I was rocking my braids before I wasn't beautiful?! GTFOH.

This society is BS! I feel BEAUTIFUL regardless if my hair is straight (which I HATE now) or in braids. I can have a TWA or be bald and STILL feel like a queen. Society has brainwashed some black females into thinking that rocking but most importantly embracing your natural roots is wrong. Kinky curly is looked down upon. Why would you want your hair like THAT when you can have it silky smooth. it's just all screwed up.
You ARE beautiful and your hair and skin and eyes and body proportions - whatever they are are YOU and they are amazing and wonderful - anyone who says otherwise is not worth a hill of beans...
I recently had an encounter with a friend of mine who is a trans-woman (male transitioning to female) and I told her that I was learning how to maintain my hair curly since I was tired of dealing with straightening it all the time and she said to me "Why on earth would you want to do that?" And I said "because my hair is naturally curly" and she said "but straight hair is the bomb and curly hair is ugly and annoying". I was surprised at the level of intolerance towards difference that was manifested, even by this person who strays pretty far from accepted normative behavior...it just goes to show how deeply entrenched beauty ideals are in this country.

This thread is so horribly racist. You're saying white people have straight hair? Just white people? In general, most of us DON'T.

You don't seem to be offended when a couple of people on here said "typical AA hair." There is no such thing. Travel Africa and you will see all kinds of hair. In my own family we have 2s, 3s, and 4s and we are AA. But because so many AA women relax their hair straight, I can understand why people would assume that we all or most of us have the same kind of hair.

For a long time I didn't know what my hair looked like because mom started with the chemicals in first grade. A lot of AA women are that same way. Doesn't science say we all orginated out of Africa.
My point is there is no typical white, black, or asian hair. Biracial or mixed hair is a silly term because you could line up 10 biracial people and their hair could all look different.
I don't get the original post...

A personal preference for the appearance of straight hair does not automatically mean a preference for the appearance of straight hair on "white" people. Not all of us "caucasians" are technically "white" (the word used interchangeably with "caucasian" in the original post) and everybody everywhere has every type of hair texture and color (and eye color).

I don't know who is Laura Wexler (mentioned in the original post), but if she promotes straight hair, as far as I'm concerned, she has bad taste. It's not right to suggest she has bad taste because she's some racist (unless she said something like, "White people are prettier...". Then she's a racist and who cares what she thinks about hair or anything else?)

Having the bad taste to prefer straight hair doesn't necessarily indicate insanity.

I dont really understand this post but as a "white" american with full Italian descent, I can definitely tell u plenty of caucasians have curly hair! I'm 3a/b and plenty of other Italians have curls...I actually get offended at times when people tell me my hair looks better straight than curly as well even though they may not mean it as an insult...so i see the frustration but def don't see it as a black vs white thing at this point...millions of white women have wavy/curly hair...there is just a notion that curly hair is not as sleek and kempt and professional which is bs...maybe it did originate from some racist stuff but right now I think it's just one of those "everyone should look this way" fads still...just like everyone has to be stick thin like those in hollywood...i say we keep rockiing our curls/waves naturally until people accept and love it! LoL Just my 2 cents...
