My husband to be (in 20days time) only found out 4 weeks ago (when I started CG) that I was actually naturally wavey / a little curly!!!!
He had only ever seen me with stick straight hair and when I walked out of the hairdressers after she had crucified my hair he said it looked good but he prefared it straight. Then when I told him its tough because Im going back natural and Im going to be proud of my natural waves and slight curls, he looked at me in amazement! I dug out a couple of pics and he said it looked stunning and to be proud.
Soooooo to cut along story short I think me sometimes say things to there partners out of nievety and stupidness as its generally alot easier for then and they dont really understand.

That article is really ridiculous.
I get so many more compliments now that I've gone natural. People will come and bounce my curls, they'll ask me all about it. My hair is interesting now and doesn't hang off my head like a curtain.
Last night, I was having a particularly good hair day and my brother's friend and a few family members all told me my hair looked really nice and kept asking if it was natural. I'm proud that I can say yes.
And seriously, you could run your fingers through my hair if you really wanted to. I would probably hurt someone if they did, but it's not impossible, in fact it would be quite easy as my hair isn't tangly. And of course it would be much softer now than if I straightened it [Ew straw hair. No boy wants to touch dry, brittle, unhealthy hair, and that's what I had for a while.].
I am far to stubborn to try and fit myself into a mold that I am not supposed to be in.

I have no interest in looking like a sweet and virginal child, so I don't see the big deal.
Do any of us think that those women with big, curly hair in the 80s who sat on top of cars in music videos looked "sweet" or "virginal" ? I bet guys had no problem doing girls with big doos back then.
Do any of us think straight hair models in music videos today look sweet and virginal?
Guys like straight hair because it's on T.V. and in magazines.

Unnghh.
HAHAHAHAHA!!! That is freaking hillarious!! I am crying!!!
When I was a jr. in high school, the kid who sat behind me in bio used to play with my long, spiral-permed hair (Ahh, 1987...). He would sproing the curls, and a couple of times I found bits of things in the curls after class; bits of paper or whatever. He would try to do it stealthily so I wouldn't feel it, but I totally knew what he was doing back there and I totally liked it. I don't know if he liked it too or if he was trying to be a jerk or what. Probably both. We never talked about it. So high school!
My sr. year boyfriend would play with my hair, too - he would spread it out like a magazine photo while I was lounging in the quad. By this time it was less spirally and more my natural wave/curl. I'm pretty sure all the boys loved my long, curly, wild hair. Of course, the runway models had spiral perms, too, back then...

Not to derail the thread too much, but why are curly guys so sought after, but the media places so much attention on straight girls? Think about it--all these popular singers/stars have had curly or wavey hair:
-Justin Timberlake
-Justin Guarini (I think that was half the reason he stayed so long on AI)
-Sanjaya (ditto)
-The hot Indian guy on Heroes
-The hot Indian (South Asian?) guy on Lost
-Josh Groban
Why do they constantly get "good hair" complements? It can't just be the fact that their hair is longer than average for guys, because there are lots of guys with long straight hair that get told by girls to "get a haircut".
For further proof, the younger ones among us should look into our yearbooks and see who gets "Best Hair" in the suprelatives section. In my school, it was my neighbor, with his really frizzy curls, and for girls, it was my other neighbor, with her long, straight brown hair with blonde highlights. I suspect it's similar in most other places.
That year I voted for my friend. She had the coolest head of blonde curls I ever saw. If my other neighbor had not started straightening her curls (she too had blonde curls, quite appropriate since her name was Goldie) I would have voted for her, because those girls had the most unique hair I had ever seen in my school.
So apparently, curls can be cool, just not for us girls! Grrr...

I have to say that this is one of the more asinine articles that I've read in a long time.

Bahaha!! Sometimes I think this is true.....
On a different note though - my female friend said to me a couple weeks ago "men like straight hair better because they can run their fingers through it." What??! I ran this by a guy friend who said that he sees straight hair as sort of boring - it's just ordinary, and that running your fingers through hair is overrated.
Seriously I think that every guy I've dated has complimented my hair in some way. In fact, one guy came in to visit me at work one day - I had just happened to straighten my hair (I do it once in awhile just for a change). He looked at me with a perplexed look and said "What did you do to your hair....?" It wasn't a good perplexed look, ha.
I'll keep my curls. :-)

my boyfriend loves my waves/curls,and so does his family. I got more compliments in one day with waves/curls from them all then I ever have when I've straightened my hair.
Although my boy still does like my straightened hair, he LOVES (like eyes gloss over when he talks about it.. haha ) it wavy.
Although he kind of laughs at all the effort I'm going to to be cg, he loves running his hands through it.

wierd. Most of my boyfriends have loved my long dark curls. I've often suggested cutting it and have been told under no circumstances was I to bring scissors near my hair.
My boyfriend hates the idea of me going for a curly bob- which is what I want. But he's dated all girls with curly hair, and he said he used to hate that his ex's straightened their hair. He loves playing with my ringlets.

As long as I condition it properly, it's possible to run your fingers through my very curly hair without getting caught... O_O

He likes it straight
My bf likes my hair straight too. Though after he witnessed the time and effort that goes into getting it that way, he has said that whatever is easier for me is fine with him. I have a theory though... He is close to all the women in his large family and they all have naturally bone-straight hair. I think he's just so used to that as a norm that my curlies are noticably different.
BTW: It goes both ways. He loves to shave his head, I like it way better when he has hair. So we compromise. He keeps it short but not so that I can see his skull and I straighten mine from time to time if we're going out.

my SO likes everything I do with my hair. He likes running his hand through my hair the curlier/kinkier it is though, so the article is totally lying!

My husband loves my curls. The men I've dated in the past saw my hair as exotic, sexy and free. I've never experienced negativity about it.
I think the biggest problem with the article is it's obvious WASP-centric point of view. It does not properly represent diversity within our culture, let alone the beauty paradigms of other cultures. I'm sitting here wondering the point of the article as the last paragraph seems to negate everything written prior. Bottom line: poorly written, heavily biased, and flat out untrue!
