I've been there a long time now - I'm 45! I just can't imagine my hair ever looking that good that I'll change all the ingrained negativity I have about it.

Well, I hate that it refuses to look good when I need it to look good, but when it does look good, I am so pleased.
I get annoyed when people tell me it's frizzy. It's not frizzy. Curls ≠ frizz, people!

I hate having to wash it to make it look nice. Straight hair is so convenient if you want to look feminine without much work. Honestly, I think I'm in the same boat with people who have straight, limp hair, that aren't crazy about it but deal with it. I've given up hating my hair, it won't make it any more manageable.

I don't understand that either..On days where i am proud to have achieved "no frizz" (which is rare)....I get the frizzy hair comments too....makes me want to scream..<<<frustration>>> ...There I have vented...phew....I am trying to learn my hair and the effort is more than anyone can know...maybe its become an obsession...

L-O-V-E my hair.
Even though it's been a long journey to get consistently good hair daily, the wait was well worth it.
I get compliments on my hair all the time and it just makes my day. Especially when I feel like I'm having a bad hair day and I still get those compliments.
Don't give up on them if it's something you want to have. It requires a lot of patients and experimentation, but once you're there you'll love it an never want to go straight again.

I know. This kills me. Especially since I am a freshman and everyone wants their hair to be stick straight and everyone straightens except for a few people, I get the frizzy comments often. And I just want to tell those people to shut up :P. But I am pretty used to it now, and I think I've grown to live with my hair. Right now, we coexist because we have to. I won't deny that there are many days I wish for naturally straight hair, and usually after that I feel like I've betrayed myself especially when I buckle and straighten it(haven't done that for months ) But on a good hairday, my hair is my best friend. I'm getting there.

I'm trying to learn to like my hair. I imagine it'll improve as healthier hair grows in, my horrible layers grow out, and I get my styling techniques refined. I like other people's curls and waves, though - just not mine.

I've always been happy with my curly hair. I think it is one of the things that sets me apart from other people, and defines me as a person.
That being said, I'm irritated with it right now, because I wish it were more curly and less blahhh.
But it's like having a little argument with a spouse--the irritation is there but the love remains.

That's an interesting way of thinking about it with the "argument and love". I can definitely agree. If you think of it as a relationship, you know what pisses it off and you know what makes it happy. And on days when it doesn't want to play fair you just do your best to get through it and hope things are better "tomorrow".

My point! This is the only thing I sometimes hate, because I still cant find a way to get 2nd day hair.
But in general I finally love my curls, after 26 years of braids and strange hairdos created by myself...

I LOVE my hair...... in theory, loving it in practice is something all together different! I love my curl pattern and the versatility of it, but I am not comfortable with the length. So rather than wear it out in all it's glory at a stage that I am not fond of, I instead bun it or otherwise confine it. I wish I weren't my own worst critic!

i love my hair. It is my crowning glory. Because I'm short it is the first thing people notice when they see me and I'm glad. My hair really shows my personality, outspoken, unique, spontaneous, versatile (1a, 3b, 3c) and most important beautiful.

I love it, although I think it can be more beautiful than it is.
I won't give up!

I hate mine and I've always hated it. Being a natural redhead is "unique" enough - why oh why did it have to be a big ball of frizz on top of it???
Yes...frizz. If it would just be straight OR curl like some of you beauties in here, I would be elated!
But that said, I am greatful that I HAVE hair - LOL! And I am glad I've recently found this place. I hope with time and patience and trying different methods, I will learn to love mine, too.
Best I can tell, I am a 4a. Right now, I am trying the no-poo thing. <crossingfingers>

Ponytail is the only wy I can wear it and I am getting really sick of it. The avatar pic is what I call wearing it down because it's just clipped at the top. With nothing to reign it in, it's a 2 foot afro. The avatar pic is after 2 days of the no-poo method and that's actually the best it's looked in YEARS! It would scare you too bad if I posted an "everyday" pic. LOL!

First of all, want to say what a really cool site this is. Only just come across it!!
I also want to say that when I was younger, there wasn't such things as straightners that actually worked. My hair is so thick that I struggled with it and hated my hair as it was so frizzy so never had it down. Always tied it back.
As I got older I learned to control it and now I totally love it. I love the compliments and I love the fact that I stand out. I used to hate the colour of my hair but would never dye it now. It really is my best feature and don't feel the need to change it anymore. It takes me no longer that 10 minutes each morning and that is with washing and conditioning as well, i personally think that is quicker than people with straight hair sometimes.
People that hate their curly hair are mad!! - People pay hundreds for it, we get it for free lol

Hi Irishlass, quick question, do you put anything on your hair?? How do you tame your hair normally. I have frizzy hair but use the pantene mouse (frizz ease makes it dry), brush the mouse in top to bottom so it covers the whole hair, scrunch and leave to dry. I find it makes really shiny curls / ringlets and no frizz at all. I would also have your hair layed slightly at the bottom and thined out slightly, only slightly thoughh!! and you should have a head of beautiful curls and wont need to tie it back ever - if you already do all this, sorry )

We are working on it - currently, I think it has more problems with me than I do with it! Probably mad for all of the years of abuse...everyday is a surprise.
