We are in a strong relationship! I have stopped looking at the bad things about it and accepted it.

I understand your frustration just recently my hair went crazy apparently one of my new products dried my hair BAD. It was crispy, dry and frizzy. Just horrible. I'm thinking it might be the new leave in or the mousse or the combo of both. So last night I washed my hair with my no poo and RO then used my condish as a LI (instead of my new one) and styled it with CK. My hair is A LOT better now. I'm guessing my leave in was not as moisturizing as it should be for my thick hair. I will try styling it with the mousse tonight when I have more time lets see how that goes. Just glad to have soft hair again.

I think the humidity is affecting mine. I'm in Puerto Rico and CK is not enough here like it is in the states. Today I did CK and gel over it and it looks much better. I also did an ACV rinse cuz the shower pressure here is weak so I had deva low poo buildup. I remember why I stopped using it now it leaves my hair feeling greasy and product-y

I'm having this debate right now. I have been CG for only a month, and I just don't love it. I'm not having any problems, I don't really have anything I need to troubleshoot... I just don't love it. If I wear my long hair straight with big waves (how I normally fix it), it lasts me 3-4 days and I get compliments all the time. I'm trying to remember why this is better.... I know the hair should be healthy, but shouldn't I like it? I already did. :/ my big goal is to be ABLE I wear it curly when I want to, but I don't see myself ever going 100% curly. It's actually more work on me.

I'm in miami fl so humidity is an issue for me too :\ tho lately its been breezy and cool at night but once winter is over its horrible. I found CK too light for my thick hair. SM smoothie works better for me. Every time I don't use it it really makes a BIG difference so I think I'll stick to it lol. I do like the CHS gel with my mousse on top. I got good 2nd day hair.

CG method is not for everyone and that's ok. If your hair is healthy and you love it then that's all that should matter. You don't have to follow it step by step you can modify it to what works for you. I am not using silicones and sulfates but the method they show for washing your hair wasn't working for me. So I use the basic guidelines on products but use my modify methods to wash and style so that my hair looks like I want it to.

I love all the CG guidelines except I like my hair better straight. I've been no poo no cones for years. I also wonder, since I can get my straight hair to last 3-4 days, air dry and then curling iron, but have to blow dry my curls every day, what's really causing more damage? Daily diffusing or every fourth day curling iron? I betcha it evens out.

If you like it better straight then I say go for it. I've heard that diffusing with low/medium heat doesn't cause that much damage but I usually don't diffuse often. With good products once diffused my curls can last up to 4 days. As long as you do a PT and DT I don't think the curling iron will cause too much damage plus you only use it once a week or so. I would suggest using a heat protectant that doesn't contain cones and not using a high setting on your iron.

Yep, always have. I've straightened my hair from time to time, and others have (mostly at a salon), but I never feel like myself with stick-straight hair. My curls and waves suit my personality! The one time I had a blowout (a friend was learning to do them) I felt weird all day and called it my "newscaster hair-do."

LongLiveCurls - I used to straighten my hair for interviews, because I heard "that thing" about being taken more seriously that way.
Then (much like with my tattoos) I realized man, if these people can't handle my curls, they are going to HATE my sense of humor.
It became a really good litmus test, to not cover all my tattoos (I have them to my elbows, and one on the inside of my left wrist) and to have nice, but curly, hair. That way, no false advertising about who I am! Besides, I'm definitely not going to straighten my hair every day for work... Even before CG and avoiding heat, I'm just too low-maintenance.

I feel that way too about my curls and tattoos. It's like listen, if your not going to accept me as I am then I don't wanna work here anyway. However, some people have made the point that once they get to like you then u can show ur tattoos without worry. Ehh. I'm not ashamed of my tattoos though so I don't wanna hide them. However, if it was for a great gig as an attorney for a public interest group then maybe. Although public interest law isn't like corporate law IMO. It's more diverse and accepting

I do try to look as pro as possible, but more than that I try to act so pro that my hair (or whatever) is a non-issue. I also cover up to the elbows on interviews, big meetings, etc. because in my line of work (Archaeology/Anthropology) you meet people with a really wide range of political opinions and beliefs. I don't want to slam doors shut. But for work... other anthropologists are generally of the impression that weird/wild looking = street cred.
Anyway, I'll stop leading this thread in weird directions...
I love my curly hair, because it's one way for me to use my personality and knowledge to change people's minds about judging based on appearances!

I used to hate my hair. It was too frizzy and I always wore it up all through middle school and most of high school. I would straighten it from time to time but it always curled on itself anyway so I still wore it up! I ended up getting a short Mohawk so my hair was way less maintenance. All I really had to do was straighten it and I even wore it curly sometimes. But then I ended up shaving my head completely and I loved it but got bored with it. Started growing out my curls since last summer-ish and I've only straightened my hair a few times and I've colored it once but I wanted it to grow healthy so I don't plan on doing it again. My hair is still very short but I love how it's growing in so far. I've adopted the Curly Girl Method and co-washing and it's only my first day but I've been happy so far. Love my curls now that I've decided to embrace them and have learned more about taking care of them.

So why wear it curly? If you hate it, there's no reason to stay curly. Not like you'll go to Hell for straightening. LoL!
What's the story behind those who hate their curly hair staying curly. Just curious.
