Stop Touching My Hair!!!!!

Like Tree16Likes

See hearing everyone's stories is what keeps me from wearing my hair out at all & I'm not even completely natural yet! My brother has beautiful 4a coils & people try to touch his hair all the damn time & I always cringe when I see that happening so I can only imagine how I would react!

Ok...well actually I know. I remember when I was pregnant I was in walmart & this older lady stuck her hand out to touch my belly & said 'aww..what do you have in there'. I immediately smacked her hand away instinctively & said 'b*tch what do you think?!"

My dad stood there in shock & laughed as she dropped her head & walked away! So I know I would definitely respond in a similar manner if someone went for my hair! It has always blown my mind how people have so little regard for others personal space & body...idk...I just pray that I don't end up smacking someone or worse!
Hair Type: A head full of THICK, normal porosity curls/coils that I am TOTALLY in LUV with!
(Transitioned for 16 & 1/2 months)

Loving: MC LI Condish, Raw shea butter, Coconut & Grapeseed Oil, SM raw shea butter shampoo,HEHH Conditioner, Braggs ACV & Egg, Mayo & EVOO PT's

People will walk up to me quite enthusiastically, saying things like, "I love your curls so much!", and then ruffle my curls. I tense up so fast! My eyes bug out of my head and I have no idea what to do.

I have no problem when people mess with my elasticity, but separate a curl and your face is gone. GONE, I tell you.

I know guys who complain about their girlfriends not letting them touch their hair because it's a weave, corn-rose, or relaxed and express their love for "white girl hair" and their ability to touch "white" hair and I'm like, "Touch my hair and your life is over. Try me."

My kids are constantly messing with my hair now that I wear it curly (I used to straighten). The baby has a thing for grabbing my curls when he's on the changing table, especially.

someone confirm this for me please. I didn't read the entire thread cuz it's long. But yes, my son always grabs that hair, hugs me on my hair and I can hear it breaking and it hurts. But then I thought, some curly-hair girls seem to have such beautifully clumped hair that it seems like you could run your fingers through their hair? Is it true and mine is just nappy?? cuz when I want to run my fingers through my hair, no way, tangles everywhere. Is that normal in a curly/wavy girl, or am I still not getting the CG routine down, because it is nappy under there???

Forgive me, I dont want to step on any toes, and I am extremely new at this (just became a member today) but, I saw how many people hate their hair touched and I had to chime in.
I actually really like it when people "boing" my hair, with or without warning, so long as they dont hurt me. Lots of people have, and frankly I love when i see how happy it makes them. I have 3a/b hair, and it's kinda frizzy sometimes, but it's really soft and everyone I know loves to play with it.
I understand what you mean when it's compared to touching a pregnant woman's baby bump, but I guess it doesnt translate for me. I'd be more protective of my baby than my hair.
Maybe I'm just de-sensetized to my hair being touched, because it seems to fascinate my friends to no end, but i don't see why y'all are so upset by it.
Again, I do deeply apologise if I've stepped on any toes, but I had to comment.

I think that's typical of curlies though and as long as you can run a comb thru it w/out much breakage then you're fine. I've even tried to run my hands thru my friends' heads with str8 hair but my hair gets tangled in those too! So maybe it's not just us curlies. Maybe only shampoo models have super strokable hair? Either way touching my hair too much gives me the frizzies so my policy is always HANDS OFF PLZ. Lol

My sister has beautifully clumped, fine 3a-3b curls, and if you try to run your fingers through her bob they will stick just as much as in my butt length 3c spirals. I think it is a unique property of curly hair that the clumps resist disturbance.

We were camping last weekend, so of course my hair was a mess the whole entire time. But anyhow, the day we left I had washed my hair and it was down of course, so this one girl over and was like playing with my hair...I literally came unglued. Cause you know it's the worse time to touch the hair....while it's wet. haha

There are these 5 little girls that go to my church, and whenever my hair is down they like to play with it and run their fingers through it. It makes me so mad! And it's so funny cause they don't believe that it's natural, they think I curl it, cause they saw me with it straight a few times, so they are quite certain that it's curled. haha

I feel your pain. I usually have to go to churhc with my hair still damp and I've got it lookin decent. then my little 3 year old decides she's going to come up and hug me and stick her arms all through my hair, and go up and down with her arms while they're in my hair, and it's like, she must know cuz she doesn't do that when my hair's dry. I can't beat her up in churhc right? I just sit there imagining how my hair must look in the back and I wonder why I worked so hard at home to get it looking nice!! Kids. . . they always know the perfect time to do things, no?

haha Yep...always the perfect time. My hair was looking great one day until they ran their little fingers through it.. haha Then one day they had their hair curled and I started to run my fingers through their hair....they hated it! I think it kinda taught them that I didn't really like when they ran their fingers through my hair. haha We made an agreement that if my hair is straight they can mess with it all they want. hah Curls...NO!

Ugh! I know! I remember I had a school teacher who was obsessed with my hair! She was always touching it, and playing with it. I was only in second grade then (funny I still remember it). So I didn't mind. But still! It gets annoying! I remember after I got a haircut, I saved some hair in an envelope, and gave it to her! Haha!
@curlgurl..that's funny!

I love this thread
But what bugs me is when I'm trying to take a pic, and they put their hand across my hair when it's wet! I'm like don't mess it up!
Also, I don't like when my parents hug me when my hair is wet! :O

I don't get why people get so uptight about it been touched, maybe if they was purposely messing it up. The user who said she smacked the woman's hands away, that's a bit far tbh it's not like she came at you with a javelin.

Buuut, some people, like the poster will touch back by swating that hand away, but usually that embarrass both the curly hair beholder & the curl crazy touch-ee. =P ~Well, If not the curly haired person, then at least it embarrasses the touch-ee!! That ends up sounding more like revenge! XD
