I have not had it happen in a while. Every so often someone at the grocery store will comment and reach for my hair at the same time.
Several years ago some friends and I would frequent the local drag show... the queens and the men there LOVED my hair and couldnt keep their hands off. From them i took it as a total compliment and let them.

My mother is the same way. She was so eager as a child to burn my scalp with the super duper revlon at home relaxer kit, and now she can't quit playing in my hair.

I think it bothers me due to flashbacks from childhood. Even when I had straightened hair, I used to get white kids touching my hair in shock it didn't feel like a brillo pad (I grew up one of few blacks), and now that it is natural, it is mostly black people who feel in my head. Checking for tracks or weaves or signs of texturizer.

Sometimes in French my friend will run her hands through my hair.
I'm always like "noooo! you're going to make my hair frizzy and gross-looking. ): " .

I HATE when people do this. I had this friend who would run up to me, grab my hair, pull the curls, and yell "boing!". She used to do this all the time, I told her to stop but she would just sneak up from behind and do it anyways. >

hahaha, just came across this... so the guy i'm seeing is forever wanting to touch my hair when its curly. I feel like just exploding and it saying DO NOT TOUCH MY HAIR WHEN ITS CURLY!! It gets all puffy when ANYTHING comes into contact with it! But i can't yell that, so i kinda just move away... horrible i know!
There is this book where a lady said she was going to charge people for wanting to touch her dreads! I think i should charging too!

I have this one colleague that pats me head and gets his fingers deep into my hair. Each time I growl, give him a filthy look and tell him off . But each weeks he pats and digs in. One of these days I'm going to be that 'animal' he loves to pet and go wild on him.

Oh gosh, as soon as I saw this thread I knew that it was from fellow curlies with the same complaint as me...DO NOT touch my curls! They're SO pretty....(let me just rake my fingers through them) AHH. I always do the dance move neck roll to try to get the point across. People never learn. The reason my curls look good is because even I hold back on touching them. Seriously, it's common etiquette. Ahh that felt good, what a vent.

Nope, not me...not by a stranger. I don't like people coming into my personal space at all and I think I naturally give off as much signals as possible to tell them "stay away." I hope a stranger never does that to me.

When I was little, people would say that if a stranger puts his/her hand in your hair, it would drop out. And that always stuck with me. I always think about the many places where that person's hand could have gone before it touched me. If you look at it that way, you definitely wouldnt let them touch your hair.

I actually like it when people touch my hair- and I'm guilty of doing this to other curlies too. But it has to be touched the RIGHT way- don't try to run your fingers through it, are you freakin' crazy???!!!
This, of course, only refers to people I know. There's almost no reason for a stranger to be touching me, period. That's just an overt violation of personal space.

Some people are just more touchy-feely than others, and can't read people very well. I don't even like my grandma hugging me. My immediate family was never very huggy, so I immediately stiffen when anyone gets within a certain range. You think they'd know after 1 time, but it is just what they're accustomed to doing, I guess.
No one tries to touch my hair. Well hardly ever. I'd consider that a compliment, that you have touchable hair. Though I definitely understand not liking it.

Most of the time i really don't mind people picking at my hair, here and there. One of my friends always comes up to me in the hallway and says i just love ur hair!!!! and then she will either pick a curl (3a) or scrunch my hair once or twice!!!!
I was at church one time an i was INCREDABLY tierd so we were watching a 10 minute video... so i laid my head on my friends knees and she started rubbing my hair and brushing it and when the movie was over i sat up and it was like... POOF!!!!!!!!
wow i had to put it up in a big ponytail.
So ya sometimes it is really annoying and answering all of these peoples questions like...
"do you curl your hair?"
"Is it natural"
and im like
nooooo it is not natural... i just get up every morning and curl my hair to the EXTREME!!!!!!
and i straighten my hair like... once every 3 months
so im like... I NEVER leave my hair stright... i just always curl it!!!
i get like soo mad when people i see every day are sooo stupid to ask if my hair is curly!!!!

I just very recently went natural, and ever since my friend(s) have been greeting me with these hair-squashing headlock "hug" positions that make me cringe.
By the way, I've been wondering.. how do you add in a signature? I hate to bring up an unrelated topic, but I don't know who to ask.

I just figured that out yesterday.
When you click on the forum tab click on the link to the far left at the top that says USERCP. All the links are on the orange border and in white letters.
One of the menu options on the left will say edit or add signature.

When I first went natural I used to wear my hair in a perfectly shaped fro...I always had compliments on the way it looked. The problem with people touching my hair was that it would flatten it in the spot that they touched, so I would have to go back and re-pick that area out and make my fro perfect again ( which took some time). A couple of my friends would do it on purpose just to see if they could leave handprints in my hair.

touch my hair and die
all my life ppl have ben touching my hair, yes usually i am also showered with compliments while they do this, oh i love your curls, oh its soo soft how do you get it like that...on and on. but that doesnt make it ok! Im just like, Look I am not a chia pet!! stop touching my hair. its just annoying and a total invasion of personal space. In 6th grade i even had one girl pull my hair REALLY hard to see if it was real, bcuz she didnt believe me. grrrrr... Im so glad to see that other ppl have the same problem/ complaint about hair touching as I do.
