Default No Gothic Curly Hairstyles

I can't find any goth/emo/visual kei/punk curly hairstyles. They're ALL friggin straight! If you do find any goth/emo/visual kei/punk hairstyles please post pics!

I'm beginning to think I'll have to make up my own hairstyles. The closest thing I've come up with is victorian and renaissance hair dos.

Well you may have to make your own.

What about dying 10-12 individual curls a bright pink, while have the rest of your hair black? It'd be gothic and still curly.

Kinda like

but a la curl.

And I believe curly hair IS punk -- or more like grunge. Think dishelved hair with black eyeliner.

I LOVE steampunk and its Victorian influence. I'd go that direction myself (if I wasn't an elementary school teacher, that is... ). I know that's slightly off from what you originally asked for, but if you stalk those folks for awhile, I bet you'd come up with something.

I think curly hair is honestly the best for lolita- and by that I mean any type of lolita. And cute curls with a headband and bows would would be adorable for decora. Don't follow the rules; make your own.

You don't have to have any specific hairstyle to be goth! I find that curls go very well with victorian, lolita, and romantic styles. My style is romantic/dark hippie/gypsyish and I think my long, burgundy hair fits it very well.

I would actually like to find more curly hairstyles in general, though. I only wear it down, in a simple bun, or a high ponytail. The half up half down look is cute too, and just add nice gothy hair accessories-just look at various stores and see what catches your eye! I have a couple silver barrettes/clips, some elastics with velvet/stone embellishments, and a few hair sticks. Claire's and Icing usually have sales on the hair stuff so that's a good place to go. I know it's not the most quality but you can find good stuff if you look.

It sucks that you don't see curly hair very often in, say, Gothic Beauty magazine!

I agree that the right accessories can totally pull it together.

sorry, guano:

by steampunk do you by any chance mean the subgenre of speculative fiction writing?

Wow, I feel so old school. When I was 'goth' the whole point was to NOT look like other people. Copying a hairstyle was very uncool. The idea was to be unique.

I don't want to copy. I just want ideas and I don't shop at hot topic. I see where you're coming from and you do have a point. I'm just going to make up my own styles.

Thank you ladies for the pics and ideas.

You may have some trouble finding curly hair in visual kei since it was started by naturally straight haired folk. But a few band members have sported curls before! Shinya from Dir en grey (http://yamikira.files.wordpress.com/...rey_shinya.jpg) is the first to come in mind and Mana has already been mentioned. Punk lolita has some curls too (http://www.avantgauche.co.uk/glb10/16.jpg, http://www.avantgauche.co.uk/glb6/20.jpg and http://www.avantgauche.co.uk/glb13/6.jpg)

Aw, I feel your pain! I was kind of Goth-y as a teen, really into the Cure and The Smiths, definitely the only option is the Victorian/Romantic type goth! I went for frilly romantic blouse-y things, lots of skirts/dresses. It must be hard in this day and age though as Emo seems to have taken over Goth and it is a much more stereotypical look imho! The tomboy new wave thing in my opinion is sort of bland, embrace your curls! I always liked a braided Maid Marian thing on top - just something a bit different to play with. I know even now I find fashion-wise curls make certain looks hard to pull off. Like I sometimes like floral pretty things but have to watch it as don't want to look ott girly girl - yet at the same time my curls counteract tomboy looks like checked shirts -I dunno maybe I am just nuts?!

Ah yes, it was so annoying when people asked me if I "shopped at Hot Topic" years ago when they saw me. I would either be dressed in very simple black, not really goth at all (due to the dress code at my job then) or a very expensive ensemble that I put together by myself using things from different stores, that looked nothing like the things HT sold lol. Fortunately, for those that are still into goth, Hot Topic is definitely emo and goths are kinda forced to go back to the DIY aesthetic. I still occasionally go there but don't usually find anything except for the occasional accessory/belt/tights, but I shop in other mall stores such as Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe. My favorite is still thrift stores, since I don't care at all about brands but I do care about quality. You can always find designer/department store stuff for very cheap.

I feel like curls can fit well into the "rocker" type goth, though. They can be very "bad girl" :P

So I'm not the only one who's been frustrated with this! I know, since all the cool Japanese styles are from... well, Japan, the majority of the people wearing them have naturally straight hair.

In my opinion, the best resource for curly edgy styles is KERA magazine. At least partially curly. Google it and you'll come up with alot of covers with curly haired models on them.

For example I want to point this punky decora out on the cover of KERA magazine. All but her bangs are curled.

If you count lolita as visual kei, here's my input; Alot of the lolita styles I see on the streets are people with iron-curled hair, however, in the Baby the Stars Shine Bright and Angelic Pretty ads you can find some models with natural-looking curly hair, like this for example:

I think no matter what, the bangs will look best straight, but hey, it's all about being different, right?

For a gothy look, Short (to the neck) curly cinnamon colored hair w/straight bangs would look good as long as it's supplemented with a tasteful wardrobe.

And as Eilis19 said, Mana has sported curls before too.

Hm.. if it were me, I would get a really long STRAIGHT side bang, and then maybe some nice ringlets in the back. I could imagine that..
But really, when you think of curly hair you think of a firey, outgoing, exciting personality.
And when you think of straight hair, you think kind of.. lifeless if you will.
So maybe that's why straight hair is mainstream for the "goth" style.

Not a big fan of the goth style myself, but I hope I helped.

Default i kinda sorta found something :]

for some time i was really into the emo/ scene look, but again, they were all sickly straight, but when i was getting ready to go to my class, i took my layered 3a shoulder length hair and did two low braids. the result impressed even me! the result was like this: http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g4...hortlayers.jpg
only it was curly, and i have to say, much more original and healthy looking...(no offence to the young lady in the picture...)

hope this helped :]

Thumbs up I've been in your shoes before..

I like the goth sub-culture but I agree, there are nary a few curlies in it as far representation goes.

I personally just try new, sometimes victorian-esque, ways of doing my hair without straightening it.

Like most have said already, make it your own! Being gothic is cheifly about being unique, and standing out.

And no goth is going to stand out more than you if you brandish your curls. Good luck!

EDIT: Also, what style of goth are you into? That might help pin-point things.

My style is lolita/visual kei/cyber goth. I usually can't do just one thing. That's boring. I am also really fascinated by the victorian era.

You ladies have been a HUGE help and I don't think I can thank you guys enough!

[guano] TwoMoons, you have an extremely powerful song quoted in your signature! I love so many of Emilie Autumn's songs, and she has so many different "moods" - it's quite a leap from "Across the Sky" to "Let the Record Show." [/guano]
