scalp pain

Anyone here suffer from scalp pain? i THOUGHT IT was from the clipping, combing all my hair in opposite direction of part, and pineappling loosely, lately my hair can't handle any of that and it hurts just to comb it or if I pin my bangs back. Anyone else know about this? The dermatologist said my scalp looks healthy. Not red or anything!

tenderheaded?

mamaherrera 08-28-2011 10:17 PM

yes very tenderheaded at this time. It started with a few pains here and there and I thought it was from teh bobby pins but now it's my whole scalp. Like as if someone pulled all my hair and it's tender to touch, wind. I"m starting to think maybe ti's from when I tried using vo5 Vanilla mint directly on my scalp to cowash. It kind of started at the time I started using that. But I wonder how many days of not using it will it take before I get relief??? IF that's the problem. . . .

I get what you describe if my hair gets combed/styled back from my forehead to the back of my head direction. Like rinsing in the shower moving your hands up against your hair.

I experience this too. The scalp in front just before my crown hurts, it is so painful sometimes I can't comb it .Even when I had worn my hair sown for a month none stop with the only tool I used being a detangling comb.

I also believe it is distinct from the pain you get from pulling your hair back; I never considered myself tender headed but I guess that is just how that section is .

Well I don't know what it is but even with wearing my hair down and no nothing to it for a few days, still like very sensitive, even teh wind blowing through my hair made it painful, no caps on my head, nothing. I am wondering if I was allergic to some conditioner I was using. . . . but dermatologist says if it doesn't clear u[p in a week or so, to do a scalp biopsy. No fun!

I hesitate to put my 2 cents in here because this might make your problem worse...but I have found when I have scalp pain that a scrubbing with a drugstore sulfate shampoo helps.

I really scrub - even though it sounds counterintuitive. I don't know what causes the tenderness in my case or why that works. I'm afraid in your case it might be a disaster but before you do a scalp biopsy it might be worth a shot. Sorry you are having this problem and please let us know how you are feeling!

I am with curlypearl somewhat on this. My scalp gets tender periodically in certain places. I do scalp massage with my fingertips on dry hair while I am watching TV or reading online and it stops the pain/tenderness. I also make sure I do it gently when I CO wash. After a few nights of doing this for less than a minute, the tenderness/pain is gone. This recurs for me over time and I just start the scalp massage routine again. If I maintain the scalp massage on a regular basis, I don't get the pain/tenderheadedness.
