Hormone imbalance..long thread!

Ive recently discovered that my hair loss or thin hair may be due in part to a hormone imbalance. Im 46 this month and Im at the door step to menapause and I have some of the classic symptoms already starting..insomnia, mood swings, low sex drive, foggy thinking, weight gain and thin hair which for most women is one of the hardest to deal with. Lets face it we live in a time where beauty is measured by our hair and weight and when you dont fit into the standard of either its a personal struggle day in and day out to accept yourself as you are.
I dont place a great deal of trust with doctors so I began to research natural approaches to dealing with all this. I found a test on line that based on your personal symptoms told me which hormones are off kilter and Im "estrogen dominate"..the most natural and safest approach to treating this is with progesterone cream. When I read up on the review and found Suzanne Somers online also who talks about bioidentical hormones I suddenly thought I might have found something here..
I began to read more and found so many women have had incrediable results once they began to rebalance their hormones. Ive become somewhat despert to try anything for what the doctors suggested were either cookie cutter one size fits all diagnoses and suggested a cocktail of drugs that would impress hollywood even..(LOL) or they simply told me "to deal with it"..What I found were that most doctors didnt want to take the time to look closer or they refused to go beyond a blood test which almost never gives you an accurate reading.
I want to ask the panel if anyone has gone this route using progesterone cream and what kind of results have you seen or expericenced along the way.???
This sounds really interesting. I've just had a panel of blood tests for hormone level measurements - why are there inaccurate? What is an accurate way to measure hormone levels?

Blood tests only show where your hormone levels are at the time of the test. However your hormones will flux every so many days and so to get a more accurate result you need to do a saliva test..this is a less expensive test and less stressful for the patient. However doctors are often pressured by insurance and pharmaceutical companies to go the more expensive route for they will get a larger comission. The test is taken at home over the period of several days and at various times through out. This gives the doctor a better window of tracking your levels with more accuracy. But most doctors wont go this route so finding one that does requires some phone work on your part. Remember, just because your blood work says your hormones are at one level doesnt mean they are the same the next day. Symptoms often dont match lab work results either. I put more stock into symptoms than blood work because its so cookie cutter..
I have hormone issues and I believe I'm estrogen dominant as well. I have a horrible time on hormone birth control, depression for a week or 2 out of the month, and a list of symptoms that go along w PMS and last from ovulation to period. Still I can't get a doctor to listen to me and realize it's a problem.

I recently picked up some progesterone cream, but I need to let my hormones even out on their own after my last disastrous birth control cycle.

Yes I would see where you had so many misrable symptoms. When your estrogen dominate the last thing you want is more estrogen and birth control pills are just that..more estrogen!..wait until your next cycle and after that week has passed then try the cream..follow the direction on which days to take it and you should be just fine. The natural approach wont have any adverse side effects and your hormone levels wont correct themselve on their own if they are off balance. I too tried to see if my own hormones would wonderfully correct themselve over time and Im afraid things just got uglier..Its a personal decision in either direction but I personally feel its worth a try. After all Ive read about the progesterone cream and bioidentical hormones I dont see where Id be stepping in the wrong direction..sure beats the doctors choice of treatment..and if your like me and on a budget the natural approach is easier to maintain over a long period of time...Best of luck keep me posted on your progress!.

I'm about a month and a half off bc pills and I can totally feel my hormones trying to balance themselves out. I know certain things feel 'different' compared to how I typically feel when I'm 'normal'.

Hopefully when things balance out, the cream will even out what bothers me when I'm not on medication.
