Ughh.. smoker :(

I feel like smoking is what makes my hair grow slow, thin, frizz.. & all that. heck.. its the reason for a lot of the problems in my life, lol. I'm preparing myself to quit tho; cutting back, gaining support, eating more (which is actually helping cravings & making me feel better in general). I wanna be healthy & age beautifully, put sum weight on, lol. I've been smoking about a half pack, or a sliver more a day (sometimes a lot more :/ ) since I was 14. I'm 19.

Simply put, I'm a real routine smoker.
When I wake up.
After any meal.
In the car.
Once every hour, maybe two if I can resist.
Before work-after work (the first after a long day, u kno)
Before I go to bed. I will have such bad insomnia if I don't have one before bed. Thankfully, since cutting back (& picking up more hrs at work) some nights I won't feel the need & sleep peacefully.

I need a change of pace in my life, baby steps, small changes. Like waking up earlier & going to bed at a decent time. Making sure I'm actually eating three meals a day. Interestingly enough, I'm craving different things like sugars & caffeine, things I never paid much attention to while eating but probably needed in my diet. Drinking more water.
At one point I began taking a prenatal (for vitamins) every day & got the WORST migraines, come to find out it was just harshly detoxing my intoxicated system, LOL. Not funny, I kno :/
Getting into better habits is helping tho. Even making cigarettes a lot less tasteful & appealing.

I've gotten down to about 7 or less a day.. that's pretty good for me. I use smoking to deal with anxiety, I think.. I grew up in a pretty stressful home & my mother & I didn't/dont have much of a relationship. I'm rly trying to move out lol

I plan on cutting back more & more before I set a "quit date". I want to ready my body, learn to cope with daily cravings. I may even try an electronic cigarette for occasional use.. sad thing is I can't get the feel for them.
There's breathing exercises, & other types of exercises I want to try. I'm meaning to invest in a gym membership with my man <3. Pick up on an old hobby or a new one.

I just kno its really important to have a lot of support in various areas. So if anyone is interested in trying to quit with me, we definitely should quit! Lol.

U know I read once that brahmi and it's called goto kula too , helps ppl to quit smoking, u can buy it as tea or just take it as a supplement from GNC and good luck

I've had luck with Nicorette gum, and my friend's husband, who is a hardcore, no-filter smoker, likes the electronic cigarettes. I think a former smoker on the site liked them as well.

Take it easy on yourself as you go through this process. It's a tough one, and it may take a few tries, but you can do it.

Yes I agree. I live in lower michigan. We didn't get a ton of snow, it was mostly freezing rain. When we did get snow we got at least a couple good inches.
We've had a suuuper long indian summers on & off.. & when its nice outside I like to smoke :/
Thankfully the last three days we've gotten maybe six inches at the most. My son was with his dad & my younger siblings were away as well. I finally had sat & sun off from work so I kinda just slept thru cravings. lol. It was nice having a peaceful weekend.
Surprisingly my cravings haven't been that strong, anyway. I mentioned I was working on my diet, so I downloaded a calorie counter app for my phone & its addicting to say the least. I can scan barcodes

I was a heavy smoker for a couple years: I was at anywhere from a pack and a half a day to a pack every other day. I lucked out in it not affecting my hair though.

What helped me quit was actually my antidepressant, Wellbutrin. It's also a smoking cessation aid and i didn't know that when I was put on it, so I'd go have my morning cigarette and I'd feel sick before I could even get halfway through it (not violently ill, just an unpleasant feeling). They didn't taste the same. I just stopped buying packs, got down to one or two cigarettes a day, and finally I just stopped altogether. Once in a blue moon I'll be tempted to bum one off my friends, I'll take like two puffs, and it'll be so nasty I have to give it back. Lol. I only smoked from when I was 18 to 20 though: I'm almost 22 now. That probably makes it more difficult for you since you've been smoking longer. But you can do it, and I wish you all the best

Here's a med suggestion to check out--chantix. Has worked great for all the patients I've recommended it to. There are a number of behavioral considerations for long term success and to prevent recidivism. First step, your desire to quit!! Here is something to think about, today is the first day of lent. Smoking cessation would truly be a sacrifice.

I quit cold turkey! I can't even believe it 2 years later! I just said I wasn't buying more cigarettes. I ran out December 13, 2009 at 7:30. I slipped once. My fault because I kept 1 cigarette and if you keep on, it WILL get smoked! LoL! But even that was over 2 years ago.

I won't brag, because we never know. But I'm here to say it is possible to quit. I smoked for 16 years.

Quitting smoking is NOT a sacrifice! I quit cold turkey. The nicotine will be out of your system in 3 to 7 days, no need to drag it out longer with nicorette/electrice cig etc. I smoked 11 years straight, ranging between a lot to a little, but the cigs were always there. I AM A FREE WOMAN TODAY. Once the nicotine leaves your system, never reintroduce it- N.o.p.e. = not one puff ever. I took up exercise and bought a bunch of books on the subject, did research on the effects on the brain etc. I also told everyone I could to find support. People I never new smoked came out to me as ex-smokers, it's awesome!! Ex smokers unite!! Good luck and stay strong. Check out the book "The easyway to stop smoking", that helped also!

My life is just rly at a bit of a low right now, but I am making progress one day at a time.
I'm chosing not to take alternatives, to prevent relapse or dependence on something else.. Its friggen hard to quit but I kno I DO want to.
I've been doing my own research here & there as well & I'm just scared. My body acts weird sometimes & I'm convinced its from cigarettes. Its taking my life away.. & my money lol

Hi Kulaidejuisce, I feel your pain. I have smoked for 25 years! I managed to quit 8 years ago and started back..its been two years now and I know cold turkey is the only wayfor me, its just those first few days I am really not looking forward to but once I set that date I will never be so stupid to think I can ever smoke not even 1 cigarette ever again!

To the OP: It looks like you already have a plan - get on a healthier diet, exercise and such. I'm doing the same thing! I can also relate to feeling low, I'm struggling to get out of this dark place I'm in right now....
My tip would be try to surround yourself with positive people who support you. Having someone around who listens, gives good hugs and doesn't judge makes it easier.
As for me, I'm currently missing exactly that. My supportive friends are scattered all over Europe and it's been tough.
But I'm a fighter and you can be one too!
Karma sure is a moody byatch sometimes, but she'll come around!
I wish my husband would quit his smoking habits sound just like yours except he's now 27. chantix helped him the most out of everything else he's tried. patches and gum. he's been on celexa but all that's done is made him go up 10 pants sizes in the past year and a half. our insurance changed and chantix isn't covered now so it's too expensive but it did help while he took it.

I'm curious, have you had any luck? I know it's tough and I hope you have. I've been smoking for quite some time and have previously quit, twice I am getting ready to do it again. Welbutrin does nothing for me, as far as reducing the urge to smoke, but I have started it again anyway. It takes and keeps weight off of me which is great because I tend to put 20 or more pounds on when I quit. Then my blood pressure goes up, etc... I tried chantix and loved it, the first week. By day 2 I was down to 4 cig's a day. No problem! I was so happy until I increased the dose, as prescribed. I literally had upwards of 30 dreams in 10 minutes when I tried to sleep. It kept me in a constant state of REM/rapid fire. It also gave me horrible stomach cramps. That's just FYI's. If you have not quit do not let that discourage you from trying. I know people who had success with both. I'm trying patches again. I had the longest, most successful run after using those. They say the more you try to quit, the higher chances are to remain that way so I hope the third time will be the charm. I can't afford the pending increased insurance rates, and decreased coverage if I don't.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??
