Does anyone have PCOS?
I was formally diagnosed a couple years ago and it never occurred to me that it could be the cause to my hair loss. My hair's been falling out A LOT over the past year and I couldn't figure out why. I haven't been treated for it yet, but was wondering if there were any dietary changes I could make for the time being to help my hair grow.

Hi, you may want to check out the Insulin Resistance Diet (along with excersise) . It has helped some folks manage their PCOS. Spironolactone seems to have helped some with hair loss so you probably want to talk to a doctor--also get your vitamin d levels checked.

I have PCOS and I have had high shedding for three years. Don't know what else to do. I have tried the diet, but it's hard. I am on spironolactone, it helped my face, but never noticed a difference in my hair. I never did do the max. dose of 200 mg, too scared. Very frustrating problem.

I have PCOS/Insulin Resistance, but I haven't experienced shedding. What I have experienced is dermatitis from Metformin. As soon as I quit taking it, my scalp cleared up. Spiro definitely helped my acne, and I notice if I have to go too long without it.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in early 2011. I was losing hair like crazy.
I read somewhere that vitamin E is supposed to help balance your hormones so I decided to give it a try, since elevated DHEA levels were the cause. I can't say for sure it worked because for all I know it's a miracle... but I lose a normal amount of hair now. My other symptoms seem to have gone away as well (acne, plus I didn't get my period for an entire year and now they come every month) Maybe I'm just lucky, but it doesn't hurt to try. I never made any dietary changes because I'm a junk food addict and I just can't give it up. I also heard turmeric tea was good for PCOS. I tried but didn't stick to it, mostly because I'm pretty fickle. |
Gosh that sounds great. How much vitamin E do you take and do you continue to take it on a regular basis?? I already get some in my multi which is why I would like to know how much you take.

Magnesium (use a quality form like mag malate or mag glycinate) is helpful in pcos too. It'll make you more insulin sensitive among others

PCOS question....
hmmm...I didn't realize that PCOS caused hair loss. I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, but I kinda have assumed I have it...I fit all of the symptoms (acne, extra weight around the belly, weird hair growth, infertility, and i've had cysts on my ovaries) except I have regular cycles and when i checked my temp, I always have obvious ovulation....but I DO have infertility (18mths to get preg with #1, and 4yrs and counting trying for #2).....and my hair falls out A LOT in the shower!!! i run my hands through my hair and clumps come out. I've given up on another baby, but if I go get diagnosed with PCOS and go on medication, will it help with other symptoms?
