Hi guys! I've asked this before, I have an issue with my scalp where it.... Well.... Smells. I really need help here, I didn't get any answers before but it's really affecting me;
-I wash my hair once a week (have done for years do I just need to wash my hair more?)
-i used to have yeast infection on scalp (but use medicated shampoo, maybe shampoo doesn't work?)
-Started smelling a few years ago when I was like 12 (hormones? If so how do i stop the smell?)
- i dont use any product, just shampoo and conditioner on ends.
People say Tee tree spray is good? Does anyone else have this issue? And do you think it is not a reason to go to doctors? HELP!! Thanks. Xxx

What do you consider smelly? Is it rotten food. Wet animal. Sweat? Have others indicated to you that you smell?

Its hard to explain... Its like a... Sour-ish smell if that helps and yeah my family have commented on it :-/

Myself and two of my kids have this problem. My son and I gave up sulfate shampoo a year and a half ago and it solved the problem immediately. (my other child is not concerned about the issue and is an adult out on her own.) The issue did return for me several months ago and I was so disheartened until I discovered there was a sulfate in the cleanser I was using! I had read that label over and over and missed it every time! I immediately stopped using that cleanser and the problem resolved again. It was then I knew for me (and probably my kids) it's a reaction of some sort to sulfates.

You said you wash your hair once a week but only use shampoo/conditioner on the ends so I am not sure the sulfate things applies to you. But, you might want to try a BS/ACV routine - even just once a week may help. Make sure you also scrub your scalp well with your fingertips and rinse thoroughly.

2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.

If that is the case, it could be mildew. You would needto thoroughly wash the hunk from your hair and scalp and dry 80% before pulling hair back.

I agree you probably need to wash twice a week and be very sure to scrub your scalp well when you do.

Fragrances, natural or otherwise, in various hair products make mine become less fresh smelling more quickly than others - some I can go over a week with no problem, while others start smelling sort of sour within about 3 days.

For instance, I love, love, love Spiral Solutions Repairing Protein Treatment, and I used to be able to get it unscented. For months now, however, unscented products haven't been available, and the regular black currant scent of the RPT doesn't agree with my scalp at all. Unless Shawntelle starts offering unscented products again soon, I'm going to have to find something else altogether.

There are also some Curl Junkie products that do the same thing, while others are fine.

So, you may want to experiment some and see if that might be part of the problem for you.

Thats a good point, when I said I shampoo and condition ends i meant shampoo normally thrn condition ends so it could be that and the shampoo I use does contain sulphate even though it is a medicated shampoo so I am going to try a non suphate shampoo next hair wash and see how it goes, please keep posting though!!! Xx

I have resolved my issue: i spray this tea tree spray onto my brush then I brush it into my hair and the smell is gone!! I also started washing my hair every four days and surprizingly my hair is softer than before.... Hth! Sorry for bad quality pic. X

Be careful of other ingredients in your tea tree spray, you may be better off adding some pure tea tree oil to water in a spray bottle and using it that way (shake well first each time). Also research tea tree shampoos. I am almost out of my Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo (I LOVE IT!!!) and am researching other brands right now-because the Paul Mitchell one contains sulfates, sadly. Tea tree shampoos cleanse very well and make your scalp nice and tingly. Sometimes styling aids will cause a smell too-I had one that started to smell like cake batter and irritate my scalp after a warm humid day, yuck-cake batter only smells good when you are making a cake. If all else fails or the smell comes back see a dermatologist-I was a cosmetologist and we sometimes had to refer a client to a dermatologist because sometimes the odor was from bacterial infection (your tea tree may be combating any bacterial infection-it is naturally antibacterial).

Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat GTTTT) shampoo and conditioner are well loved around here and are sulfate and silicone free - mostly, if not all, organic ingredients. Wonderfully tingly and refreshing! Both from the TT oil and peppermint it contains.

You can get it at Target, usually near the KCCC, Shea Moisture, Welleda type stuff, not on the regular shampoo aisle, as well as at some Rite-Aids, Walgreen's, CVS, Kroger, Publix and Wal-Marts and also at Whole Foods and most health food stores.

You can usually pick up liter sizes at TJ Maxx and Marshall's. If you find you like it, it's worth seeking those out because the flat shape of the smaller sizes are annoying to try to get all the product out of.

It used to be my HG for shampooing and cowashing until seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp seemed to worsen to psoriasis, and it just wasn't doing enough any more. I still use it sometimes, though.

I'm sorry you're having this problem. But, Tea Tree Spray on scalp should help.

If it is an issue of uneven body chemistry, drinking 4-6 ozs of tomato juice, daily (Campbell's has one) should help, also--In older days They used to use it for eliminating strong odors by bathing in it and drinking it--
