confused,too much moisture/protein?

Hi all
I am really confused about what my hair needs...
I have been on the CG method only for about 6 weeks, and I am very confused
I don't know if my hair has too much moisture or too much protein, or both, or none!

So far I have done a Deep condition once a week, and 2 PT.
My hair feels soft, but tender, flabby, (and mushy when wet), which looks like an indicator of too much conditioning. It isn't also clumping well, but often in small strands.
So I thought it could be overmoisturized.
But I did the wet strand test and it breaks easily with little stretching, which is a sign of moisture needed!

However I did a PT a couple of times and didn't notice a lot of improvement. Last weekend I did the second (eggs, greek yogurt, coconut oil)

My hair is not very elastic, well NOT elastic or little, which I hear it can also be too much protein.

But it feels also very week, which probably means it needs protein...

I don't know what to do next...
any advice please?

Thanks!

I had the exactly same thing happen to me. After doing this mask, my hair was so much better. It will take so time, damaged hair is not easily fixed, but I'm sure this will help.

What you need:
1/2 a can of coconut milk (more or less depending on how long or short your hair is)
1 to 2 spoons of honey

How to use:
Apply to damp hair and let it sit for no more than 30 or 35 mins. Condition, and style as normal.

Hi thanks so much
I will try that this weekend...will let you know how it goes!
I know my hair is damaged and that will take tiiiiime to sort out,
also I know my hair is very week and that comes from the inside, which again I am aware that won't be sorted in a few weeks, and I am already taking care of that.

But in the meantime I want to help my hair externally as well...

Thanks so much and I will try it!

Just an FYI for the second 'protein treatment' you tried, the protein in eggs and yoghurt are apparently too large to penetrate the hair, so it's not actually considered a protein treatment. In fact, most people use it as a moisturising/conditioning treatment to aid in shine. Also, coconut oil has no protein, so again, isn't a protein treatment.

Coconut milk, like BeautyOG recommended, is a good protein treatment too (at least, in my experience). I personally use it without any additions like honey, on my dry hair before I wash. Maybe for an hour or so. Then I wash and condition as normal.

When using coconut milk, do look at the ingredients if it's a canned one and check it's as natural as possible, with the least additives. Also check the coconut content. A lot of these 'milks' are just loaded with water with only '30%' coconut, which isn't what you want. If you're using the canned stuff, get the good quality. Alternative, you can make it yourself.

If you live in the US I highly recommend Sally's Colorful Neutral Protein Filler added to your rinse out.

Like BB said, the eggs and yogurt won't penetrate the hair, it's more of a "conditioning" treatment, so that is probably why your hair is overconditioned and mushy.

It might also help to have a protein in your styler.

Hey thanks so much, this is so helpful!
Actually it makes a lot of sense
I live in the UK, but I am sure I can find something similar to that protein treatment here.

My first protein treatment was home made, something I found in youtube....avocado, egg, coconut oil, almond oil, honey, conditioner...
probably more moisturizing again....

I will try the coconut milk first and see how it goes! will keep an eye on the ingredients

I am using ecostyler gel argan oil, and it has wheat protein..maybe that's why my hair seems to like it

Thanks so much ladies

Hi,
as promised here's my feedback.
I did the coconut milk treatment on Saturday and my hair doesn't feel that mushy, it has improved quite a lot.

I think I still need to do another PT, but I can tell the difference, and at least I know what I was doing wrong.

Many thanks!!
