PCOS and Memory Loss

Hey Girls,

So I was wondering if anyone has experienced memory loss that they believe is PCOS related? I have and initially when I started talking Metformin, it was better.

However, now I've been on the same dosage for at least 6 mths (my doc doesn't want me to go up b/c I tried and I couldn't tolerate it) and I am experiencing more short term and some random long term memory loss (no major life events but my friends from h.s. mention little things to me and sometimes I have no clue).

Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone tried an Estrogen supplement for this or any of their other symptoms?

Please do share! Thanks ladies!
Wow that is interesting, is memory loss also a problem with PCOS?

My memory is TERRIBLE but not sure if I can attribute it to this. I'd love to know more about it - Did your GP say anything about it?
This is so weird b/c after I posted this, there were at least 2 or 3 responses and now they seem to be gone? I swear they were here lol!

Anyway, Idk if I asked my GP...I think I asked my endocrinologist? She didn't confirm or deny but seemed to think it was less likely. I plan to ask her again when I see her next. I asked another doc (also not my GP- yes I see quite a few docs lol) and she didn't think it was very likely...she thought it was more likely a result of my ADD tendencies

I mean...my memory isn't bad...its just that it was always SHARP. I mean, it was unusually sharp...and now its not...I know things change as we get older but I'm not even 30 yet...seems kinda soon for me to be having memory loss.
I know what you mean - I think it is difficult to know wether this is a direct attribute to memory loss but its seems like it could be. I have problems remembering words mostly!
I suffered with Pancreatitis a few years ago which they could not for the life of them find a reason. Now i think that there is a link bewteen pcos and that (insulin & blood sugar etc) but no-one can say. My eyesight went really crappy too in the last year and I bet that is linked also.

In another 10 years they will find a whole manner of other stuff linked to it i bet!!! I am seeing my consultant soon for a Laparoscopy and will ask what her opinion is on it.

My eyes get worse all the time so I hope that comes to a stopping point. I've never seen it as PCOS related as most ppl in my fam wear glasses, but who knows?
I have really bad memory and didn't even link it to my PCOS. My husband thinks I'm just too forgetful. I have tried anything for it but I might try something now that it can be linked to PCOS.

Hey Girl,
I know what you mean I have had PCOS for a while now and starting a couple of years ago I started haveing noticable memory loss. I am just now 26 and the way you said it I couldnt have said it better my self " I know that with age some memory loss is to be expected but I am in my early twenties how bad should this be?" My mind/ memory used to be very sharp but now It has become increasingly difficult to remember things while others sometimes I have a great memory for. Its weird but I know something is not right. So basically no you are not crazy and yes there are many others out there who are experiencing it too. And tell your physicians that I do not have ADD or ADHD or any other disorder besides PCOS & I have a significant memory loss/ recall problem as well!
I've experienced the same thing, without being on metformin. Taking DCI has helped curb some of it, but my short term memory is progressively getting worse.

When you get the choice to sit out or dance, I hope you dance <3

Hair Type: ?
Tons of whirls and curls and coils on my head. My hair's sometimes my best friend and other times we're at odds. But either way it's curls to the end. No need for a relaxer cause there's no reason to stress, my tresses are at their best

I understand what your going through. I'm 24 and i have just recently learned from a doctors visit that i have it. I just chalked the memory loss to just being forgetful. But i now see that memory loss is something i need to take care of.

I never connected the two but it would make sense w/ my PCOS timeline. I discovered I had PCOS the same time I started taking Spanish (when I was 13 years old. I am now 19). Before Spanish I was an excellent writer but as soon as I started to Spanish, by the end of the year I couldn't grasp my unique sentence structure like I use to. To the point I was getting D's on my High School essays.

And not to mention I use to have an AWESOME memory, now that I think about it. Also, my mom gets pissed when she tells me to do something and I completely forget to do it and just leave her request behind. I'm still pretty good with languages though, that hasn't slipped my mind too much.

Thanks for this thread though; though I was losing my mind for a second.

D-
chiro-inositol (DCI) is a member of the B vitamin family. Most people naturally synthesize enough D-chiro-inositol as a part of healthy metabolism, making it from the pinitol and myo-inositol,
substances abundant in our diets and closely-related to D-chiro-inositol.

Some PCOS women are deficient in it, particularly those who are insulin resistant (which I def am, esp with a high family risk of Type II Diabetes). Virginia Commonwealth University (alma mater..whoop whoop!) has done a couple of studies on the drug.

www.chiralbalance.com is a common retailer of it.
