I've tried so many products for this...I use the T-Gel, that you mentioned for shampooing, but there is a product called http://wwwv2.softsheen-carson.com/default.aspx?c=53 It's called Dandruff solutions and this has been working for me, I only use the daily flake control, I've been using it for almost 2 months now and I do not have my flaking problem anymore. I don't know if you want to give it try. I found it in Target.

I use a shampoo called Jason's Tea Tree Scalp Normalizing shampoo..it works pretty well, it's lessened my dandruff within a couple uses, and I'm not even consistent with it. I bought it from drugstore: http://www.drugstore.com/products/pr...97&catid=10349
You get a generously sized bottle, so it's a pretty good value. It's all natural and doesnt have SLS, which is nice. Has alot of positive reviews in the link I gave, check it out if you'd like

that's good to hear, it is so hard to find a product that will actually show some results, I know for my dandruff that's true.

I found out it more of dry scalp. I do still use the dandruff shampoo because my hair gets itchy still a little bit.

If you have dry scalp, dandruff shampoos can make it worse. Those are for oily hair and scalps. True dandruff is caused by excess oil. The flakes are more yellow and oily versus the lighter smaller dry scalp flakes (gross yeah that). I oil my ascalp once a week to give it more moisture and take fish oil capsules. Dandruff shampoos can help to get the excess skin off, but they are so harsh and drying that I only use them if I really need some exfoliating action.

Yes, Rose, Adrina is right about the dandruff. Have you checked with a dermatologist to make sure it is dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis)?
If not, you might want to try some of the gentler shampoos out there for itchy scalp. Although I do have true dandruff (oily scalp, dry hair), I found that natural tea tree oil shampoos have helped me. There are quite a few brands, like Jason, Giovanni, and Nature's Gate that contain tea tree oil without the harsh sulfates. (I use Max Green Alchemy.)
If you find that it is dandruff, you may have to find a formulation that works for your scalp, like selenium sulfide or pyrithione zinc. Since many of these shampoos contain the harsh sulfates, you would need to do a lot of conditioning depending on how often you need to use them.
I hope you find something that works for you.

I used Dandruff shampoos for years until I found out (finally) from my new hair dresser that its not dandruff, its dry scalp! not only that, but using dandruff stuff on a dry scalp can make it worse because dandruff is oily, so dandruff products are made to dry out that oil.
If you have dry scalp, using a drying product obviously will make it worse.
So my hair girl recommended Nioxin Scalp therapy, and its been amazing! Not only does it make my scalp feel good, but I don't have flakes anymore.
I only have to use once every couple weeks now to keep it moisturized. Its a holy grail product for me now, you should try it!!!

Fiyah, do you use just the conditioner, or the treatment? I googled it and most of the results were of the conditioner, but I also found a Nioxin Scalp Therapy treatment (comes in a tube with a nozzle).

I use Nizoral as well. It reduced the dandruff and the itching has gone away. Now I can use my regular shampoo and use Nizoral occasionally. To combat the rest of the dandruff, I make an exfoliating paste from I recipe I found in the CG book. I mix 2-3 TBSP of brown sugar with enough conditioner to make a paste (I have never tried it with shampoo but that might work too). My scalp feels so smooth afterwards! I should exfoliate 1x/wk but I usually forget so I do it when I remember (like today!)
Hope this helps.

What do I have?
So do I have dandruff or dry scalp? Dander shampoos always seem to make the flaking and itching worse, once this happens my scalp gets real oilie. If I understand correctly, dandruff means you have oilie scalp and the shampoos dry up the oil. So if the shampoos are making mine worse, then I have dry scalp. But what about the fact that once I use dander shampoos my head gets oilie?

danderuff shampoos are very harsh and didn't work well for me. I use tea tree low poo and conditioner, and do brown suger scrubs, and it has worked wonders!

I've started to develop a method of switching off from 2 or 3 different dandruff shampoos. If I use one for too long, then it stops working, but switching seems to work well.
In the worst case scenario, Denorex works really well. The only downside that I have found is that while it gets rid of everything on the top of my head it will fry the ends of my hair, and the shampoo itself makes my hair smell like fingernail polish remover. In any case, it works well but needs to be used with a really good conditioner that has a good scent to it.

Dandruff is the most annoying thing ever.
Ive suffered with it for years now and still havent found a shampoo that works. Esp as many recommend using it daily and i tend to wash my hair only once a week.
I have an oily scalp too so maybe i should wash more often ... but then stimulating the scalp just makes it produce more oil so you cant win.
I guess alternating two diff shampoos will encourage the scalp to respond cause its true that after a while they stop working!

I, too, have had issues with dandruff (and itching). I changed my shampoo and conditioner and the problems has decreased ten-fold. I eliminated products with any variation of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Laureth Sulfate*, soy, parabens and alcohol.
I like the Vegan products from Aubrey Organics.
*Other variations of SLS are Disodium laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate.

my boyfriend has the worst dry scalp ( i guess its not dandruff since its not oily?) issues... plus he's allergic to methylparabens and anything with methyl in it... so i looked up natural products to help reduce it
http://www.health911.com/remedies/rem_dand.htm
lately I've discovered tea tree tingly shampoo from trader joes, it's like $3 for a 12 oz bottle, he loves it and it's a step up from the baby shampoo he's been using his whole life lmao
plus he has locks so I buy tea tree oils and grape seed oils for like .99 for two ounces at a beauty supply store, put it in a spray bottle and spray it in his hair, he hasn't had it nearly as bad as he did when we first started dating and it was BAD. I literally thought pieces of candle wax was coming out of his scalp, like his scalp was running away from his head. But now that we keep the oils around and his shampoo, we rarely have episodes where his dandruff/dry scalp arise HTH!!
