bald spots EVERYWHERE!!! Any ideas?

(I just put the message found below in the newbies section, only realizing after I submitted it that there was probably a more appropriate place for it. Sorry about that. Have never done this before!)

Hello... Just joined earlier today and I was a perfectly happy curly head until about a couple of hours ago. I went to take a shower and found a quarter sized bald spot an inch in from my hair line and 1/2 inch to the left of my center part. I asked my husband to check the rest of my head and he found 11 more bald spots that range from the size of a button on a dress shirt to the size of a Looney (Canadian Dollar Coin). They are all over my head!!!

I'm not a PJ but had decided to try a few new products over the past couple of weeks. I have been following the CG routine for about 8 months without any problems. I have a lot of super thick and coarse 3b hair so it's quite possible that I have had these bald spots for a while, but they were completely hidden. This could have started anywhere from a month ago to within the past 24 hours.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing happening?

All the new products I tried are listed below:

- Swav Moisture Conditioner (Been using for about a month)
- Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel (Used it only once or twice, but it never touched my scalp)
- esencia white lotus and nettle conditioner (Used only once - last night)
- cantu shea butter leave-in conditioner (Used only once - last night)
- LOTD AVG, Jojoba Oil, Glycerin, and xanthan gum (combined these at home, supposed to be similar to KCCC) (Used it twice - thursday and friday)
- Flaxseed Gel (Used it once - Saturday)

It would be a shame if any of these were the problem, because as far as my hair itself was concerned, it has never been this frizz free! (I gave the Cantu and Esencia good reviews earlier today, so I hope I can change my review if one of those are to blame.)

I'm going to make an appointment with a doctor in the morning just to be on the safe side. I hope it's nothing permanent or serious!

I would really love to hear from anyone who's experienced this.

Defnitely see a dermatologist if you haven't already. It sounds like it's sudden.

i would just say go to a doctors. a few years ago i had a bald spot and it was called something alopecia- some kind of fungal thing. i have no clue where it came from, and tehy said it just happens sometimes. they had to give me a couple of tiny shots- really no pain, just a weird hot burning feeling. i was supposed to go back for a follow up, but i couldnt cause of school. the hair grew back tho. i can't even tell where it happened.

Thank you for the reply BL.

I'm going to see a dermotologist at the end of the month. We'll see what they say.

I'm glad you shared your experience. It really helps to hear that someone has experienced something similar and recovered.

I'll post the cause of my hair loss as soon as I find out.
I've had it happen a couple of times. Each time I had one quarter-sized bald spot, toward the front of my scalp near the hairline. I discovered one right before a visit to my then hairstylist, who told me he's seen this in a couple of other clients, who both had been under quite a bit of stress. I was under a lot of stress when they showed up as well. Mine eventually went away, but looking back on it, I think it would've been wise to see a dr!
Mostly 3A, some 3B/2C fine-med texture/med porosity/low density

wash: alternate co-washing with V05 & soap bars
Rinse out: Rotate TJ's N&S, AOHR, LVPNG, GVP K-Pak, CJ CA Daily Condish
ACV rinses 2x/wk (high pH water)
LI: if I use one, it's usually CJ CALI CJ H&B LI, or GDLI
Styling: FSG with AVG, AN, hemp seed oil & slippery elm (winter only), KCCC, CJ CCCC, CJ SG, CJ AFG, AOMM & BRHG

Currently experimenting w/DM Miracurls CG & MM
yea, keep us all posted. it's so weird how these things come from out of no where!!! i really hope it is that alopecia thing i had cause with the little shot, the hair grew back with no problem at all. i remember in the meantime, i parted my hair the opposite was so it wouldn't show.

You may have Alopecia Areata so check with derm. It's an autoimmune thing where body attacks hair follicles. I washed my hair one day last year and found a quarter sized bald spot in my head. Then more came. Some people actually lose all the hair on their head or even whole body. That's Alopecia Universalis.

"There are many causes of shedding, from stress to chemotherapy, but 90 percent of hair loss is genetic and needs to be treated with medication. "

I sympathize with you. I have lupus and deal with hair loss. It gets worse if I don't eat enough protein, my iron levels drop or my hormones get out of whack.
Let us know what the derm. says. Good luck!

I saw a naturopath on my local TV station last night and he was saying that a lot of people don't absorb nutrition properly because of low stomach acid. He mentioned that a supplement : Betaine HCI helps the body to absorb the nutrition from protein, Iron and the B vitamins-especially B12. I'm going to get some and see if that can help me get the most out of my food and supplements.
