Worst Hair Products for Porous Hair
Based on your hair experience, what are the worst hair products for highly porous hair? For me, here is my list:
Ouidad Sun Shield Sun & Sport Leave-in
Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave-in
These products left my hair like straw and my hair was moisturized prior to use!

Curl Junkie Aloe Fix. I love the other Curl Junkie products but this is a disaster for my hair. I think aloe is actually somewhat astringent - so it dries my hair. The tipoff is that a lot of aloe products say they are "cooling" - which indicates a drying propensity, like alcohol.
Good thread - interested in others' experiences.

The Garnier works great on me and I have pretty dry porous hair too.
What my hair hates is gels and mousses.. they just exacerbate any dryness and frizz.

Spiral solutions CEJ used by itself as main styler, komaza coconut curl pudding, heavy aloe based products, straight gel as a styler, and hairspray...

So I'm not wrong. Thank you!! You just gave me some validation. I have been thinking that my hair loathes aloe (and I know it can't stand gel) but everything I've read said it was supposed to be a wonderful conditioner, no reactions, blah blah blah. The overwhelming majority of my hair is high porosity and I just can't take it. Straw city! Now if I can just figure out the other 200 things that seem to do it, and most importantly... get it through my thick skull that shampoo has got to go.

And... It's A 10 leave in conditioner was the last major no for my hair. Horrible! I had to have damage from it cut out, weeks later. Aveda Brilliant Universal Styling Cream seems to dry my hair out. I gave it a try 2 months ago after I gave up propellents. Both of those have cones. Im new, and not on a set routine yet. Just starting, learning and trying to figure out what's best for me. I will gladly update with any CG products I find along the way. At the moment I have no products I can use, period.

Does not seem to like oils
Does not like protein or too much?
Does not like rich products
So, I ask myself. What does it like? That is the question, and I'm on a mission.

AOHR conditioner. My hair immediately soaks it up right when I put it on my hair, and my hair ALWAYS gets over-conditioned when I use it.

KCCC, it made my hair dry and waxy at the same time
Aloe Vera, dried my hair out
Every curl creme I have ever tried

Hair: 2a or 3a (not sure), very porous and fine as frog hair
Day 1: Cowash and condition with AO GPB, ACV Rinse,
Co-Kra gel (this stuff is fantastic)
Day 2: KCKT, KCCC, plop, KCCC, plop again, air dry
Day 3: Curly Kinks Satin Roots, Coil Jam
Day 4: IAGirl's PT, KBB DT, FSG
Co-Kra gel is my own concoction of okra boiled in coconut milk. It is a cross between FSG and KCCC and leaves my hair very soft and shiny

I can't stand AOHR conditioner either. It makes my hair greasy and limp. Some people love it, though - maybe they have less porous hair.

For me, anything with oil or mag sulfate. Fine, porous hair is the absolute worst combination ever.
Of course, this varies from day to day. One day, I have the most amazing-looking curls (for my hair), then, using the same products and same technique, the next time I wash it, it looks like crap!!!
How is it possible that after 46 years, I don't seem to know anything about my own hair?

Coming back to add:
Curlisto Structura Lotion
Organix Argan Oil Conditioner
(these items are now for sale on the swap board if you're interested)
And possibly:
ApHogee 2-step reconstructor--jury's still out on this one
Worst.hair.ever. for the last couple of months. Sticky, cottony, poor curl formation, frizz. Ugh. Thank dog today for having sulfate shampoo on hand to finally strip it all away and reveal my true hair again...and it's not even a low-humidity day...it's moderately humid and overcast.
Special thanks goes today to:
Hubs' random el cheapo Suave shampoo
V05 Extra Body Conditioner for cowash
L'oreal EverPure Moisture Conditioner for rinse out
Göt2B Fattening Mousse
BRHG
John Frieda Hairspray
I'll never stray again...even though these guys stopped working for awhile, which is why I started straying in the first place. I guess when all else fails...sulfate shampoo and start again.

I second the protein and the oil. I tried them both at the same time last night. Not only did it kill my curls, but it turned my hair to velcro! The whole thing was one huge knot. Thank goodness I found someone to get me back on track.
My hair hates Curls Rock Curl Cream, Tresseme Hairspray and basically anything else that isn't pure moisture. It can eat condish like it's going out of style.

Products loving my hair:
Co-Wash/LI/RO: DC One Condition
Gel: KCCC, BC Curl Enhancing Cream, DC AnGel
Moisture loving, oil and protein hating (though it tolerates some in products).

Kinky Curly Knot Today. Looked like I sneeze in my hands then rubbed my hair. Grossest feeling ever!
I must have got a bad batch. It just sat on my hair.
