Default Is my hair porous?

I really have no idea. The hair on my crown area is really dry and brittle 89% of the time, while the rest of my hair is relatively fine. The strands in that area knot up, unbelievably often, and they look... ridgey? they have a few holes and look like parts of the cuticle is raised. The strands are also extremely rough when I run my fingers along it's length.

Also when it gets wet, it melts and seems to be very moisturized but as soon as it dries, it feels brittle again. This is just my crown area. This section is also a LOT shorter than the rest, partly because I pick at it cause it's so very frustrating, I sometimes rip it out... It's only a small section where I do this. But the rest of the area, I don't touch and it's still a lot shorter.

I don't put heat in my hair, I stay away from sulfates and cones and anything that's not cg... what could I be doing wrong and what do I do to try to remedy this?

Sometimes the ingredients of certain product (though CG) can cause your hair to become very dry, or the product may not be moisturizing enough. To begin, what products do you use?

Well I use KCKT, KCCC, Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner, Trader Joe's Tea Tree conditioner, olive oil, coconut oil, avocados for DC, honey, vatika oil (not regularly, just got it). Occasionally I use shea butter but not very often.

Btw protein treatments do not work for me, it only makes the situation worse. I come out with dryer hair than I began with.

Anything with coconut makes my hair feel brittle.

I don't use coconut oil often at all, so it's not that. Even when I do, I use very small amounts cause it'll leave my hair feeling greasy if I put too much.

Have you clarified your hair lately? It might be build-up--even when you go CG.

I use the Shea Moisture shampoo which really cleans my hair pretty well.

Do you wear WnG's daily? Sometimes you made have to wear protective styles as a change-up.
