Humectant Free Suggestions
I have fine, porous hair and live with very high dew points year-round. I'm just learning about humectants and proteins, and I'm wanting to try a humectant and protein free hair regimen. My problem is finding co-washes, DT's, and styling products that ate free of both humectants and protein. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd much prefer products I can buy in a salon/ store.

Everyday shea is a very simple conditioner, basically just an emulsion of water and oil.
Gels are usually high in humectants. But aloe vera gel, marshmallow root (like in kinky curly products), and flax seed gel are mild humectants, not like glycerin, sorbitol, and propylene glycol. --- 2c/3a-M-ii porous, good elasticity, APL, dark brown with a silver lining. Biggest enemy: frizz! |

KCKT is also a great product to try. Sealing with a bit of oil would knock back any of the problems that the marshmallow root may give you. |
Oils are "anti humectants" so you could try sealing with a small amount of a liquid oil, like olive oil.

You could also try suave naturals pomegranate or cherry conditioners. I couldn't find humectants or proteins in their ingredients.

what does it mean to seal with oil?
|
It means to apply a small amount of oil to your hair and work it in well. I will put a drop or two of oil on my hand, rub my hands together, and then finger comb half my hair. Repeat on other side, and as necessary until I've applied enough oil. If you have denser, curlier, or more porous hair, you may need more oil and it may be easier to apply if you section your hair. It doesn't take much oil at all and it's better to err on the side of too little so your hair isn't greasy. You may want to do it on dry hair at first to get a feel of how much oil your hair likes. Some people can even forego conditioner altogether and just use oils.

Thank you for your response. That's really helpful. So when would you do the sealing in your product routine?
|
some people seal after their leave in and before their styler and some people seal as the second step in the LOC (liquid, oil, cream) method when not using a styler. I am starting to think this means the same thing - after the leave-in to seal moisture in the hair.

If ur hair is fine, u may want to mix an oil with ur leave in. Some fine curlies (like myself) can't seal in a separate step...
