Default Do any of you do your OWN BKT's ?

I finally bought a kit and I'm planning on doing my own BKT treatment next week. I got the Softliss b/c it was recommended by a friend.

I must admit though I am a little nervous. My own stylist SWEARS that BKT will fry your hair.

Have any of you had damage from it?

Do you have any tips or advice to offer me before hand?

Oh, I feel so redundant repeating all my own info over and over over. Perhaps you should do a search--there are SEVERAL DIY BKT threads. I, myself, have a long, detailed thread dedicated to my own BKT journey that spans a few months.

Quickly, though, I have been DIY BKTing with QOD Max and then Gold since Nov. 09. I had naturally 3c/4a hair, now a 2c/3a post-BKT, with highlights twice interspersed with the BKTs, and have only noticed 2 split ends; no other damage. I don't think my curl pattern will ever return to 3c/4a, but I don't care about that. You have to read my thread, though, because that may be due to the high frequency of my BKT applications. I've never been happier with my hair in my entire life. BKT has been life-changing for me. My hair had always been the bane of my existence. Now it's my crowning glory, and I get compliments all. the. time. I wear my hair curly--I never straighten, but it's easy enough to do if I want to--10 minutes with just my hand and a blow dryer. Also, now I color my grays with cassia/henna without problem. The highlights are too damaging to my baby fine hair.

Hi Spoilt mom, yes, many many many of us do ours at home and post abotu it at all teh time. You MUST do a search. You should know this: not all BKTs are created equal, so research your brand before putting it on your hair. Can't find reviews about your brand? Don't use it on your hair. Some BKTs work for looser hair, some for kinkier textures. Your results will also vary depending upon how it is applied. Most of us buy our kits on ebay from keratintoday aka ( keratine4u). Good Luck!

Thanks ladies. I'll start searching. I can't wait to get this done.
