Default Almost DIY QOD vs. Global Keratin

Hi Ladies--
So I ordered the QOD Max from eBay and picked up the Avalon Lemon clarifying shampoo ready for my DIY this past weekend. Got a bit nervous and asked a stylist friend to come over to help. Together it took about 3 hours and I did my complete head.

Here are my observations so far:
1) QOD seems much stronger than Global Keratin. The smell was much stronger and I noticed it lingering on my hair after the flat iron. It blew out very easily and straightened very easily.

2) My hair seems much "heavier" with the QOD on it than with the GK. Not sure if its the brand or the fact that this is my 3rd treatment ( Quick recap---treatment 1 didn't take at all. Salon redid it a week later and got much better result but still quite full when blow dried but looser curl when air dried). Its been about 6 or 7 weeks since my last treatment.

3) My hair is much flatter and straighter with a shine than before. Again could be due to having several treatments or a combo of brand and repeated treatments.

4) My hair did get a little bit frizzy on day 2 from sitting outside for hours in extreme humidity and heat. I re-flat ironed that night and it seems to be holding. I am not so good with staying out of the humidity and rain for the full 3 days.

I did my hair on Friday. Will let it stay as long as I can before washing it out. Will let you know how the air dry goes later in the week.

Default OMG!!!

Did my washout just now. I let the keratin stay in becasue I was lazy. Its been 6 days. There is no curl in my hair. I have maybe 3 big waves in my shoulder blade length hair. I am in shock. I am a strong 3(c) with some 4(a). My avatar is my natural curls. They are gone....whoa.....

I am speechless really.

Wow - that's a huge difference! Did you let it air dry or how did you style it? I'll be interested in hearing how long it lasts for you.

Default wow

I'm a strong 4a w/ some 3c and my curls didn't go NO WHERE with QOD max..lol..softer and less frizzy, but still there. I'm sure you'll see more curl in another wash or two. I never see true results after the first wash.

Yesterday I air dried with nothing at all. Today I put a little KCCC and left the house in high humidity and stayed outside while it dried and its still a loose wave. I don't really poo much. I just do a little at the roots only to get the oil off of my scalp and then I co-wash. We will see how it goes. Its a big adjustment at the moment, but at least its really easy to work with.

Default Update

So its been a few weeks. I have some curls now but my curl is very loose ( maybe 3(a)) and soft with lots of movement. I still don't recognize it but I am really liking it. I do wash and go. On mornings I don't wash I just damp a little but where the curls are sticking out from sleeping. The QOD Max is definitely much better on my hair than Global Keratin.

What condition was your hair in pre-BKT? What kind of chemical and/or thermal processes had you been performing regularly (or irregularly) on your hair? Your result IS unusual. It took me 4 applications almost in a row to get my baby fine, highlighted 4a/3c curl down to a 2a (too straight), then it finally bounced back to a 2c/3a, where I have kept it since.

My hair was really healthy--I had grown out of a relaxer for 2 yrs and cut off any remaining parts . I also stopped chemical color 2 years ago and have been on henna and Indigo. I did have 2 prior Global Keratin treatments. One that I thought didn't take at all and the second one better---but fluffy.

Now its been about 6 weeks now. My curl is still loose, but if I air dry my hair and go outside at all in the humidity---its getting very full with a lot of frizz. If I dry it inside under air conditioning it keeps about a 3(a) loose curl. I did just retouch my henna and Indigo. I do a two step treatment because I am really really grey. My hair dried nicely after the henna but its seemed that the frizziness started when I washed out the indigo. Not sure if the BKT is just wearing off or if I somehow washed it out with the Indigo. I only used Honey suckle rose shampoo so I don't think its the shampoo that did it.

Anyway----I am disappointed that the frizz is back ( although I am glad I have a loose curl rather than just waves). Will likely do a retouch on the QOD this weekend and see how the results go this time.

Any suggestions for taming the frizz but not straightening the curls any further?

Hi girl,

Did you have a second Global Keratin done in one week? I just had GK for the first time a couple of weeks ago and my curls/frizz are already back with a vengeance. The salon is offering to redo it, but I'm scared of hair loss.

Yes----it was about 1 week later and the salon did a redo for me. No breakage issues---pls do it. I haven't used GK since and I find QOD to be much better for type 3(c) hair.
