Keratin Treatments... Help!

I'm getting really tired of my hair (big ol' 3c frizzy mess) and I'm trying to familiarize myself with Keratin treatments because I read that it doesn't damage/causes minimal damage to your hair. The thing is I'm really confused about what Keratin treatments really are and what they do because there seem to be many types. I was hoping someone could help me answer a few questions.

1. What does keratin do exactly?
2. Is it permanent? If not, how long does it last, and does your hair revert back to its original state?
3. Does it straighten your hair completely or can you choose how you want it to look? I have 3c hair and I would like looser curls, not straight hair.
4. Does Keratin damage your hair?
5. Do Keratin conditioning treatments (like shampoos/conditioners with keratin as an ingredient) give you the same results as the ones you get in a salon?
6. Have you tried any Keratin treatments, and were you satisfied? If so, which treatments would you recommend?

Thanks, guys!

2. Is it permanent? If not, how long does it last, and does your hair revert back to its original state?
It is not permanent. My hair was back to normal after about 4 months.

3. Does it straighten your hair completely or can you choose how you want it to look? I have 3c hair and I would like looser curls, not straight hair.
It did not straighten my hair at all, it made my curls looser. I don't flatiron my hair very often but the time I did it went fast.

4. Does Keratin damage your hair?
I've read that some people have had damage, I'm not one of them.

5. Do Keratin conditioning treatments (like shampoos/conditioners with keratin as an ingredient) give you the same results as the ones you get in a salon?
I've never tried at home treatments..

6. Have you tried any Keratin treatments, and were you satisfied? If so, which treatments would you recommend?
1 years ago I did a Brazilian Blowout Free (no formaldehyde) on my 4a/3c/3b/3z hair.
It made my curls looser and a litte more uniform.
Having done research, I asked my stylist to NOT flatiron each piece 10 times so she only went over it 5 times.
I swear by the aftercare, shampoo, conditioner and leavein.
I'm not sure what is the cause but my length retention has been great.

I recently stopped using the aftercare because it's been impossible to find around here. My hair felt brittle and dry so i decided to do a BB again.
Unfortunately my stylist is no longer using BB. A lot of customers felt that the BB Zero was to weak, I assume they wanted stick straight hair, so she is now using Kebelo. I've had it a week, my curls are a little too loose but I know that it will wash out eventually and I just want the protein-retention effect anyway.

I found my beloved BB Zero aftercare products again so here's hoping.

You said that you asked your stylist to only flat iron it 5 times... Does this mean that the less she flatirons, the less straight your hair would be?
I was confused about the process because all the videos I found on YouTube were of people getting stick straight hair. Do you know of any videos of Keratin treatments that give you looser curls instead of stick straight hair? I'd like to watch the actual process before I make the decision (I'm this close!) to get it done.
Thanks again!

I'm scared of heat damage so I asked my stylist to half that. I'm not sure if that makes it less straight but I'm assuming so.

After everything is done my hair is stick straight because she blows it dry, but as soon as I wash it again (which is usually the next day) my curls come back, only looser. And, apparently, stronger. My hair is very fine so retention is usually an issue but with the BB I don't have to manipulate my hair as much, which I am sure adds to my retention. I love it and even when the BB is supposed to be gone my hair is still strong!
And getting longer and longer and longer....

I haven't seen any videos of people having a keratin treatment enjoying their new looser curls but I'm sure they're out there......
Thank you so much, you're awesome! <3

I had the Coppola Keratin Express Blowout Treatment. I went with that one because my hairdresser told me it would only last 6-8 weeks and that why I could decide if I like it or not. Well I didn't and here's why to answer a few of the questions you asked.

2. Is it permanent? I got the express treatment the first week of April 2012 and it's still in my hair. It's warn off, but it has left my 3b curls as limp waves with more frizz than I had before I got the treatment.

3. Does it straighten your hair completely or can you choose how you want it to look? My hair was bone straight with hardly any body. It was however frizz free for the first 3 weeks which was nice, but it didn't last. With the return of the frizz, a slight wave started to return about 6 weeks later. And now, 20 weeks later I have a combo of straight pieces, limp waves, and some curls that resemble my old S curls...I miss those pretty S curls!

4. Does Keratin damage your hair? Although my hair lacks body now, it doesn't appear damaged from the treatment.

5. Do Keratin conditioning treatments (like shampoos/conditioners with keratin as an ingredient) give you the same results as the ones you get in a salon? I have never tried the home treatments either

If you do get it done, I would have your hairdresser do what Ninadef did and only have them run the flat iron through 5 or less times. My hairdresser did it 8 to 12 times and I think that's part of the reason why I completely lost my curl and body.

The good news is, I've been doing lots of TLC on my tresses and they are slowly but surely coming back to life! Good luck with what you decide.
I just received my treatment today at a pricey salon. I was pretty nervous and I am still nervous. I read a few reviews on how bad the bkt treatment was , hair falling out etc. but none on the copolla other than I didn't work for long.
My hair is bleached fried and dyed a blonde ash color with a Demi permanent and they say it's better to color before u get the treatment because it brings the color out and boy is that true. The hair at my roots was darker than the ends but after the treatment it looks beautiful. My hair is straight and one solid color.
The beautician washed me, blew it dry, then applied the keratin, I needed 4 1/2 oz, thAt sat for a few minutes then he blew it out with a round brush and proceeded to flat iron it. I bought the expensive shampoo and conditioners for colored hair and I'm waiting for this 72 hours to go by quickly bc ur not supposed to do anything to it, I don't know how I am going to sleep. I have 3c/4a hair. It is a ill staticky and I got a drop of water on it so I quickly flatironed it.
Oh , there were fumes, not as bad as I expected. I did catch a headache and took some alive and then I was fine, but no fumes or smoke while flat ironing. Only during the application and wAiting for it to sit and combed it thru. Well I'm still praying my hair stays in my head. I hope this helps too.
