Keratin and color fade

Has anyone experienced color fading on dyed hair after a keratin treatment?

I don't get it, I have been dying my hair blue black since 2009 (natural color is black/very dark brown) which should be very stable.
My hair comes out a tone lighter every time I do BKT and gets redish highlights even if I have it dyed 3 days before treatment.

Why is this happening? I am using Qod max Original

Has anyone else the same problem? Is there any ways to prevent fading?

Yes, QOD Max can pull a bit of a coppery tone on your hair, but it will fade after a while. I think most Keratin treatments do. My girlfriend uses another brand and always pulls some coppery tones. I used another brand once and it pulled a lot more than the QOD Max. (This was when my hair was darker). Might be the protein/keratin in general?

You can throw in a semi permanent toner in two weeks after doing a treatment if you need/want to.

I used the Original QOD Max and sometimes it would pull some soft coppery tones. Never bothered me, because the end result was fantastic! I love that glow! And the color would look fresh at all time. If like it got sealed with the BKT.

I think most keratin treatments cause the color to change if im not mistaken. there are a few out there that do not cause this but I can't think of them at the moment.

Well I hate it because I am trying to have the darkest possible tone in my hair and I love the blue tone of blue black.
When I used Unnique advanced (which has a lot more f/hyde) I had horrible fade, I went from fresh blue/black to dark brown whit lots of red highligths, so I gave up this treatment.

Maybe it is correlated to the amount of f/hyde....

I would do a semi-permanent but it fades really quikly

Aphro, do you think kerapremium has the same effect as QOD on color?

Has someone any idea WHY we have to wait at least 15 days before we dye B.k.treated hair?
Keratin is supposed to be stabilised on the hair shaft after the 2-4 day waiting period...why wait 15 days?

Good question! I am not sure about that. it might be better to ask the company directly.

Anyhoo, qod max silver is the new color loss preventing formula from QOD. there are also cysteine foam treatments like Naked assuage,Arosci and design essentials straightening therapy systems. Also the golshee line claims that their product does not strip color as well.

But is it a straghtening one like the old&classic Qod formula? Or is it like the Organique product line with no aldehydes?

LOL It came out fairly recently. i think it is like the organiq version judging from the ingredients. i see no formaldehyde listed.

Crap, that's what I thought. But on the other hand neithermy original formula has f/aldehyde listed in its' ingedients.

i contacted qodhair.com inquiring about it and I also asked what results should I expect.
That's what they answered me

"I'm sending to you attached the product report of QOD MAX SILVER and the directions.

I can tell you that QOD MAX SILVER is a hair treatment with straight effect. This is an improvement of QOD MAX ORGANIQ formula.
As you can see attached the QOD MAX SILVER will give your hair the straight effect and will not fade the color at all. "

I mean how can they claim that it gives straight effect while it does not?
Because I m pretty sure oraniq formula doesn't take away a single curl.
I dont know about this one, they insist so much it gives straight hair....

Bruchilda, I just did my treatment once again with Kerapremium, after my final color correction. I made sure I got my hair to the color I really wanted, then did the treatment right after coloring the hair. And it did not pull any copper tones, or any color changes!!!!! I am happy, happy, haaaaaappy!!
I think that coloring the hair after the treatment will remove some of the treatment. I noticed that hair was not as shiny and soft when I did this. (I waited 2 weeks before coloring)
That is why I rather color first then apply treatment over the hair color.

AphroDiva I tried that once, but hair didn't came out as soft as it would normally be If I hadn't colored it prior to the treatment.
I m not sure why did that happen but I suppose that color residues might had been left and keratin could not penetrate or be stabilised...I don't know maybe it was too much 2 procedures in the row

Besides, after a couple of weeks color faded again, when it should normally last more than 6 weeks

Thanks Bruchilda! I am still observing my hair and see what happens to it as time goes by. So far, it still very soft. And color is great! But again, this time I went 3 tones lighter on my color, instead of toning my natural brown hair. We'll see how it goes!

Hmm..but I think that the fade effect would be more visible on dark hair than blonde or light brown..
I mean, ok...light is light, how much lighter could hair turn out ?

Guys I just got a disastrous idea lol/

What if I add a bit of violet or blue dye (without the developer of course) in the bowl and mix with the keratin treatment before I apply it?

Treatment+color > mix > apply > blowdry > flat iron...

you may want to look into a color locking spay to see if that helps.

color locking spray...sounds interesting. Does it work with any keratin treatment? Have you try it?
