Coppola Keratin Treatment

Hi,
I am a stylist of 32 years and a salon owner. I use the Keratin Therapy by Coppola. I have used all the other smoothing/straightening products on the market including harsh chemicals. Keratin Smoothing by Coppola is the most efficient, safest and easiest system to use. It produces frizz free, smooth and shiney hair for months. I have clients that have the process done every 2 months for perfect hair and some that do touch ups in 4 months. While the cost is expensive, the time you save styling your hair far outweighs the expense, not to mention it gives you hair like you always wanted. Don't wait, do it now. You will love your hair!

Hello ladies!!
Im going to try the Lasio Treatment, and have it done at home this time around rather than tossing $290+ for Coppola and having it fade. I do like the Coppola but I would probably buy a larger bottle in the future and get it done at home.
Coppola based on all the reading I've done thus far isnt superior to any other BKT treatment in the market today, it still has a formaldehyde at 0.02% which the Lasio and several other brands have. The formaldehyde levels can only be detected once the hair is being blowdried- flat ironed.
Anything without formaldehyde wont have any effect or little on your hair.

I'll probably do the treatment in the coming days and let you lady's know how it goes!

Sugarglazed,

I was sorry to hear the Coppola didn't last longer! How are you getting the Lasio? How much Formaldehyde? Can you do it yourself?

I am of getting the Coppola but it's so expensive, like 350. I have 3b-c hair that is driving me insane. I have started CG and it seems worse without the cones.

Interested to see how your hair turns out.

Did you end-up doing the actual straightening treatment also?

Terrapins Im going to be buying about 4oz of Lasio from a reputable seller and do it at home, I have all the equipment ect, I will let you know if it does or does not work-

I will be honestly $350 is A RIDICULOUS amount for one treatment, (you can buy the whole 16 oz bottle of the treatment for that amount!! you would just need help with application and blowdry)
If you have virgin hair and your hair is 3b or more you might be pissed when it fades. It might just be my experience was not what I was expecting so I wouldnt recommend paying over $260-
I like how the treatment definitely adds softness and slightly unwinds the curl but I was hoping for 3a hair with a little 3b-

Ghost- Which product did you use exactly, and do you know the formaldehyde % ? I know all BKT's in any form will have some formaldehye/aldehyde in it, Im just looking to keep it as low as possible for my safety and the person who will be applying it to my hair-
Someone had mentioned Inoar and Rejuvenol as being great brands but I could not find %'s on those.

Thanks

It included a "free" 450-degree flat iron, a "free" thermal comb which helps the person helping you with the flat ironing, and a "free" bottle of clarifying shampoo, a 33 oz bottle of keratin. I put quotes around free because I'm not sure if any or all of those things were truly free. Still a better deal than the salon, and I didn't have to seek out the other things separately and pay shipping for each.

I don't know what the percentage of formaldehyde is. In fact, I erroneously thought that it was formaldehyde-free. But you know what? I decided that I really don't care. I have been battling my hair for my entire life. I am so sick to death of struggling with it. I'm going to die some day one way or another. I could die tomorrow in an accident or earthquake or something. I'm 43--if I were 23, I might be concerned. In my teens and early 20s, I mercilessly exposed myself to the sun unprotected, so if the formaldehyde doesn't get me, melanoma might. And, if neither of them get me...all the better!

I've just reached a point where I'm just trying to make life a little easier for myself. Maybe I should be scared of formaldehyde, but I'm just not. Reckless? Maybe. But, we live on a planet that is showered by cancer-causing sun rays all day every day.

Sorry for the diatribe! I'm not suggesting that you throw caution to the wind as I have. I'm just explaining my logic...flawed though it may be!

Hi Ghost,
Thanks for the insight- I guess not same things matter to everyone. I COMPLETELY understand the frustration with your hair and the fact that if it really makes you that content then go with it ... just be very cautious in your technique.
I am in my twenties and havent gotten my life started really, my hair I feel in more ways than one is HOLDING ME BACK from feeling and being confident I know this sounds incredibly lame, but Honestly its been challenging and even when I thought it looked okay curly I would look at it in another angle and its a big frizzball mess/flat/ugh.... People I know also tell me "you look so much better with straight hair-wow, it fits your face and structure better" ... to be completely honest it does flatter me more, and I like straight hair, wavy or loose bouncy curls- mine are dry & very tight- and ever since I moved to chicago my hair has been a royal piece of **** with the high humidity.
Yes the Coppola has helped but something to break the curl down a bit further would be nice so I can play it wavy/lightly curly or straight- nice in between hair.

I've heard good stuff about QOD but I am definitely on the edge with this formaldehyde stuff, some companies are flat out LYING saying there is no formaldehyde/aldehyde to other saying its been approved by the FDA- most people dont know the FDA doesnt really check on cosmetic products, consumer beware-
I've also heard good about Lasio and Rejuvenol but I want to make sure its not to long term hurt me or the person applying it to my hair even though we will be doing it outside with a fan pointing at us! I guess we play at our own risk.
The scary part is I have family members overseas who have mentioned this treatment to me--- on the black market and stylists USE no protection, bare hands, repeat the treatment three days in a row, its tragic really.

I am getting the Coppola treatment done here in Perth, Australia on Tuesday. I have 3b/c frizzy hair that just drives me mad!! Due to the lack of decent curly hair products here in Australia my hair usually ends up tied in a frizzy pony tail anyway. I have done the chemical straigetning before, I have my hair blowdried and flatironed at the salon, but it lasts a week and back to curls!
If the CKT isnt a great result at least Ive tried!!! I am hoping for less frizz and maybe more manageability, maybe I might even be able to blowdry myself, havent been able to up to know due to my thick horrible hair!!
Ghost Poster and Sugar Gazed,

Thanks for your feedback and stories. I am too, ready to forgo the Formaldehyde but less would be better. I have the same issue, hate hair and lack confidence.

I have looked for the Lasio online but no e-mail contact. Sugarglazed, let me know if you get it.

I am supposed to get the Coppola in two weeks but at 350.00, I am reluctant as well.

Terrapins- 3b/c
I had the Coppola treatment done almost two weeks ago. I am naturally a 3B, and the results were just want I wanted: looser curl when dried naturally or diffused, and hair I could blow out and flat iron myself in less than an hour. However, this weekend I started noticing some pretty serious breakage around the crown. I have been using a blow dryer and flat iron a lot more than I did pre-treatment, and I'm sure that accounts for some of it. For now I'm going to lay off that--but what do I do to repair the damage I've got and make it less visible? My hair was in pretty good shape before the treatment; I have a few highlights but I've never done any other kind of processing on it. I'm still happy with the way the rest of my hair looks--it's just this crown of fuzz that I don't know what to do about.
I got the Brazilian Keratin Treatment done and was in-love with the results. A week later my thick hair started falling out. At first it was a few strands and gradually out by the handfuls. My dermotologist explained that it was the DHT in the Keratin that was causing the hairloss, attacking the hair follicle. It was NOT the formaldahyde which I so carefully avoided.

It's been 3 weeks since Ive done the treatment and my hair is frizzier than it started out and thinner than ever. I ended up having to get steroid shots to the scalp to reverse the loss and time will only tell what the side effects of that will be.

I wish I had done more careful research or simply googled the side effects. When I called the Keratin manufacturer they told me to take up with the the salon, which will not return my calls. My other girlfriends who got this done were noticing hair loss too and were told it was most likely stress so they are now taking unecessary medication rather than being told of this pricey risk from the get go by the manufacturers.

The FDA is simply unaware of the side-effects of this new craze and it usually takes a class-action law-suit to catch peoples attention. Which is most likely exactly what me and my girlfriends will do.

Here are some stories I wish I heard before the treatment. Please make your decisions very carefully.

I had the CKT done yesterday, here in Australia. I know I havent washed it yet so the actual results are still unknown!!
anway so far so good really...normally when I have had my hair blowdried straight and flat ironed, i ALWAYS have to flat iron again the next morning after sleeping on it....not so this morning, when I woke up my hair was almost as sleek as it was when I went to bed!
I am not liking not being able to tuck my hair behind my ears as I dont like it just hanging round my face
It feels lovely and smooth, not as brittle as it does after a normal blow dry
I hope I get a good effect after I wash it!

I've been using Coppola for a year and a half and have absolutely no complaints. I really don't believe anything in my keratin is any worse than the lye that was in the relaxers I used to apply, or the chemicals in the hair color I've used.

You said you called the manufacturer, what brand was it?
SulkyGirl and Relhaj, I'm so sorry you are experiencing this. I think something else is going on there. I don't know if there is any DHT or not in the keratin I used, but I am no longer experiencing breakage since I stopped flat ironing. If it is indeed DHT, i know that Nioxin has some products that supposedly fight the effects of DHT.

I heard that a keratin product called the Brazilian Blowout has resulted in numerous stories like yours. Is this the brand you had done?

I don't think it's about training. Really, no training is necessary--just following directions. All it entails is coating your hair with the keratin product, blow drying your hair, then flat ironing straight. Clearly it's not a good idea to use super high heat on baby fine hair, but I used the flat iron at 450 degrees twice, and my hair is still relatively ok. So, unless the person flat ironing is just completely inept and is burning the hair unnecessarily, there shouldn't be much of a learning curve. If you read my thread, I talked about how how my bf helped me with mine; he has never in his life touched a flat iron or done anything related to hair styling. I showed him the video that accompanied my kit, and talked to him through it, and he was an old pro at it the 2nd time.

There is nothing you can do to repair damaged hair, I'm sorry to say. Maybe take your questions to the general hair discussion board for some ideas about camouflaging the damage.

Baf- Please come back with some feedback on your treatment, im sure we'd all love some before and after pics!!!

Ghost- I totally agree with you, it might have been a specific treatment that was not compatible with one's hair type or severe sensitivity to the ingredients-
Also not all stylists are the same in their application and technique, there are those that are caring and understand how to treat hair and others that just attack it full on to get a task done.

I have been reading up on more bkt treatments Im not going to do the lasio, but rather kerahair or chocohair they both have 1.6% formaldehyde which yes I know is bad, but it will be done outdoors with a fan pointing at us so lots of ventilation for myself and the person applying the treatment. I will let you guys know how it goes!!

Realhaj and Sulky Girl,

I spoke to my stylist the other day. And to add on to what the others have said, you should apply the keratina few inches from the crown. Not sure if that makes a difference in preventing breakage or not. I will let you all know. I am having the Coppola done on Thursday and like Ghost Poster, I will flat iron sparingly if at all.

Any suggestions on a thermal protectant spray??

So I washed my hair .....i guess it was not as straight as I was hoping, there was still plenty of curl there....I didnt really want to put any product in, but I think if I want to leave it curly I will need to as my feeling was that my hair would be too 'soft' and would need product to hold the curl to stop it just looking like a puff ball
The texture of my hair feels nice and smooth
I didnt blow dry it just blasted it with the dryer and then spent about 20mins with the flat irons
Normally I have an hour or more in the hairdressers, blow drying and ironing to get it straight and then it quite often curls
I am not good at flat ironing so my hair does not look as sleek as it did when I first got the CKT done
When I wash it again next time I will take some pics
So far I am undecided....i like the fact that I can straighten it myself...and probably after the 20min of straightening after washing it will last me a few days so therefore less hassle
I dont want to leave it curly all the time as I think that will necessitate wetting and putting product in every day which no doubt will mean the treatment lasts less time
