Thumbs down didn't work for me

i had this treatment done about 6 months ago. according to the website, it was supposed to reduce frizz by 95% or so. at the time, the product was great, it didn't smell toxic in any way. it actually smelled really good, fruity. i had the product on for over 72hours as instructed, and it looked great AT FIRST. once the product was washed out, my hair went right back to its normal frizzy uncontrollable self. the product did not change my hair at the very least or reduce straightening time. it instead made my hair very dry and now clumps up a lot. i have resorted to cutting off a good 6inches from my hair and say it was the one of the worst money i've spent yet.
maybe i need to have the treatment done several times before my hair becomes managable.

Red face Not for true curlies

Each time a new straightening method comes out, I give it serious consideration. I get suckered each time. Straight hair is so easy, and socially preferable. But it's flat, boring, and lacking personality. I get bored with my hair when it's straightened. Sure, it looks great, is drastically different and so, so easy by comparison to manage, but I feel better after I've washed it out and my natural texture returns.

Thankfully I have always had a salon that discourages (refuses) 'permanent' straightening techniques.

My friend used the Keratin treatment and her hair (naturally straight but frizzy) looked great until she washed it, then it looked like someone's kid had used an iron on it. It's completely destroyed the condition of her hair, and the regrowth is obvious. Imagine how curls would look growing into straight hair?

They're a pain in the backside, but curls are unique. I'd hate to have to wait for straight hair to grow out to get them back, and not be guaranteed to have them grow back properly.

So I got the treatment done today... right now my hair is pin straight, but it doesn't feel gross or producty. My eyes teared up a little when she was drying my hair, but otherwise it wasn't bad. Overall it took 3 hours, and I paid $225... I'm really excited to see how the results are when I wash it out. My only issue was that once I left my sinuses were throbbing-- but then again I have a sinus infection, and it could have just been due to sitting down for such a long period of time.

Will post results... hopefully they're good!!

Hey Skram1113. Your hair is looks exactly like like mine (3b/3c) length and all! I'd LOVE to see the results of your Keratin Treatment since I'm now dreaming about getting it done!! Were you able to still wear your hair curly?!? Let me know!

My hair is very similar to Skramm as well. I had it done in February. My hair is still curly but I know have the option to straighten, which I didn't have before. My hair is much softer and healthier looking as well. I still have some frizz without product-but I live in Florida so the humidity is pretty bad. I thought I would have less curl-but am happy that my curls are there. They decreased by about 50% and my hair is less puffy when curly.

Would you say your hair is wavy now? Or more like 3a curls? I've been considering leaving the treatment in for an extra day, as I was told this would give me better results (basically if I could stand to go another day without washing it). Right now my hair isn't oily/greasy/waxy so I don't totally mind it. That may change by sunday but who knows...

Thumbs up

Congrats! Skram1113. I too am thinking of having this done - but not sure yet as it's kind of costly. Am hoping to see your results after you wash your hair as my hair is very similar to yours. If you can, please post pics of your hair. Thanx.

Default Coppola in NY?

Cconsidering this treatment for summer. Have thin 3b hair. Can anyone recommend a salon in NYC? I'd rather not pay more than $300.

Thanks!

My hair is probably a 2b/c right now-not wavy. Still pretty curly. I didn't mind the three days of not washing, it didn't get too greasy or anything. It actually looked pretty good but I had to wash it so that I could start going back to the gym. I had taken enough days off so I wouldn't sweat.

I know its pretty late but I just washed my hair after the 3-day waiting period... I'm waiting for it to dry (I dry it in a turbie twist). I'll repost with my opinion of the results.

I will say that when washing my hair out, I started smelling the keratin again. Not the way it did in the salon where my eyes burned, but it had a definitive scent that I smelled while showering. (just saying)

will post results.

UPDATE: I couldn't wait, I let my hair down now.

I LOVE IT.

Its definitely still curly. But its less curly and its less big. usually at this point in the drying process its frizzy, losing considerable length and I'd already be unhappy with it. Now its drying, but its less curly, the roots are MUCH less curly (I absolutely adore it)... I'm waiting for it to dry fully. Will post more.

where in Florida? I had mine done in the Tampa Bay area. But I am assuming you mean farther south?

Just a side note-I love my Keratin treatment. But I realized how much better it is if you are in a less humid state. I was in Mass for a week and had less frizz and didn't have to flat iron at all. I even got caught in the rain and had no frizz. I have to fight a bit harder in FL to keep the frizz out but it is possible, but will do it again as soon as I have to. It has been 6 weeks right now and is the same as day 1
Yeah I live in Fort Lauderdale, but thanks for the response. I actually found a stylist in Sunrise and I go this Thursday for the treatment...I can't wait!!!

WHAT HAPPENED!!! my hair is just like yours... i want my hair to be curly just looser than it is naturally, does this loosen your curl or make it go away? usulaly i run a straightner over my curls to loosen em up once theyre dry and to give them more length, are those the results you get with this treatment?

Does anyone know if there are any effects to your hair after you get the treatment done and go swimming in a pool or ocean??

Red face New!

New to this site, decided to join when I started looking into this process and thanks to this forum i've finally booked my appt. getting it done 5/15 and i can't wait. it seems like during the 3 day period you cant even put your hair in a ponytail..so are you supposed to do anything special when you sleep so you don't ruin it? also, what are everyones favorite salt-free shampoo and other hair products they have been using? everything in the store seems to have salt in it so not sure what to get!

any info or tips would be great! thanks!

Hi,
I've been lurking on this site for a while now (esp. this page. I've booked my treatment for this Friday!!) I spoke to my stylist about sleeping and pools so I figured I'd post her answers for ya
With regards to sleeping, she suggested sleeping with a silk scarf.
As far as swimming goes they recommend that you wet your hair prior to entering the pool and put in conditioner. This will help to create a barrier. She said she has a few other clients that swim in a salt water pools and they have not complained about the service wearing off any faster. The salt they add to shampoos is to thicken the product so it is in highly concentrated form.

katesephny: I would recommend Deja Vous in Manhattan. I've had the Coppola done there a few times. Price runs about $300 - $350 depending upon hair length I think.

I might be a little cautious if a salon is charging a really cheap price - they might not be using the products they claim. Ask for other clients you can call or meet to be sure. That's what I did for a comfort level (or maybe I'm just a paranoid New Yorker who doesn't want to end up with fried hair!).

Default new to this forum, HI:)

I have been saving up to do the BKT, Rejuvenol at a salon near me, well 45 min away lol.

I just have fuzz, so what ever the risk I need this done.

I'm not rich by any means, so saving to spend 100 bucks a month on my hair is tough, but if it turns out, it will be worth it.

I heard Finnesse was a good line to use for wash/cond has any one else heard this?

Also, silly as it may seem, where would I find a silk pillow case and scarf?

Are those expensive?

I would also love to hear what the hair looks like after it starts to wear off.

I also, box color my hair blond and was told I could do this before the treatment.

So, any comments, advice or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rainseed

Smile so scared!

OK, so I have 3a hair but definitely frizzy. Like, EXTREMELY FRIZZY. I don't know if this is my natural hair or caused from dying my hair since I was 11 and I am now 21. Whatever the case, my hair takes an hour to blow dry and straighten with a flat iron. But it is always frizzy so I end up putting some kind of cream on the roots which causes my hair to get dirty and I have to wash my hair within a day and I hate that b/c I wasted an hour doing it! And in the summer, forget it. I never attempt to straighten it b/c of the humidity. So when I curl it, I put mousse in it and then blow dry 20 minutes later. Lately, I have been a complete frizzball. So much so, I end up tying my hair up after it's done.

I am nuts with my hair. I have been highlighting/dying for 10 years but my hair is practically back to my natural color since Ive been growing it out. Basically, I am always really scared to do anything permanent to my hair. But this sounds so awesome. I am just scared because even though there aren't many unsuccessful stories, I am nervous I will be the one it doesn't work on. I'd love to see more pics of people who air dry their hair maybe a few weeks/months after the treatment.

I just don't know if its worth it to pay up to $300 for something that will grow out in 3 months. I also plan on getting my hair highlighted in about a week so I'd get it done after that if I do it. Love this forum, everyone keep posting!

Also, anyone know somewhere in NJ to get done [preferably north NJ]

Default hmmmmm....

I had the CKT done on Friday. I left it in for the required three days, then washed it yesterday and let it air dry without any products, to see what would happen.

So far, I am really disappointed. There is less curl, but it is still quite fuzzy and frizzy. I guess I'll have to see what happens when I apply styling products, but I expected to be able to air-dry without products and end up with no frizz, just like people who have straight, silky hair naturally.

I'm not sure what to do- should I wash it again and apply my usual serum/gel combination when it's still wet? Right now I'm worried that I wasted my money. I have long, thick hair, and I paid $450 for this, BEFORE tip.
