Default How long 'til locs?

I've been lurking the new board and I'm really considering having my hair locked. The one question that I have (as I've seen/heard some conflicting statements) is how long after you initially lock your hair does it take for them to look like locs? I've read online that it can take a few months and I can't help wondering what you do in the interim? Thanks in advance for answers.

Mine took about 5 months to really look like locs. It started to lock the first 3 months, but I'd say they looked more mature after about 5. I was a freeformer, if that matters.

when i had traditional locs it looked like locs within a few months. now that i have sisterlocks, they looked like sisterlocks from the beginning since mine were installed on completely natural hair.

With traditional locs, what do they look like until they completely loc up? Do they just look like twists?

Sorry if these questions seem dumb and thanks for the replies!

sort of. for me they did because i started mine with two strand twists and then it just morphed into a loc'd look. i didn't really feel weird with them at any stage because my hair thrived more in locs. i would pin them for slightly different looks but mostly i let them be and before i knew it, it was loc'd then down my back.
