Product Layering Problems
I know some people put 3 or 4 different products in their hair. I've noticed if I put more than two my hair doesn't seem to absorb it well and takes forever to dry. Is this a low porosity thing? Do others have this same experience.

Depending on which products I use. Like if I layer on a leave in, then some oil, then KCCC . . . then my hair is like STICKY as all get out. I've only had that problem with KCCC and EcoStyler.
Everything else works fine.
Could be a low porosity thing and how the hair works with certain products. ( shrugs ) Not sure.

I can't layer products. I tried countless times. I either use a LI or a styler. I am experimenting with sealing my ends which is going good.
When I did use a LI under a styler, I had to use such a small amount of LI that I asked myself why bother? I equate it to low porosity but I am not quite sure.

I am a KCKT and KCCC user. I found that when I used the two together, after my hair dries, it feels like I poured a bottle of glue on my head. It is hard and extremely crunchy. I use one or the other. Sometimes, I just put the KCKT on my ends. I still get some crunch. I started mixing it with a little Shea butter and get better results but I need a lighter butter.
The one ingredient that I don't have a complaint about is glycerin, except in the winter. I am thinking about buying a bottle of vegetable glycerin and playing around with that.
@belwillcoily: I have been using my heating cap too. I have noticed a big difference.

I've had that problem when using KCKT as a leave-in. My hair wouldn't hold any styles. Hadn't had the problem before I started using it. As soon as I switched LI, that worked. I'm not sure if my styler wasn't strong enough, or if it was the mixing of product lines.

This is so my hair. I'm wondering if using the Jane Carter Leave-in spray would work better under a styler than a heavy cream.

I may have to give Jane Carter Leave-in a try.

@ adst2nv - KCKT and KCCC do not mix well with other products so that was probably your problem. There have been a few ladies on here that have been able to pull it off but for the most part, they like to be used together or with other products from the Kinky Curly line.
@ teejay - I had a learning curve even with layering KCKT and KCCC. I'm generous with the KCKT and I add some additional ingredients to it to give it a little more slip since my hair tangles so easily (jojoba oil, castor oil and aloe vera juice). But I am very sparse with the KCCC. A little goes a long way; otherwise, my hair becomes very, very crunchy.

I learned this as well. If I am shingling, I just dip one finger in the KCCC, let the excess slide off, then apply it to my hair. I also have to use a minimal amount of KCKT. My strands are fine. Some of them are thinner than thread. Too much of anything spells disaster for me. I use to watch youtube tutorials and people would put generous amounts of product in their hair. I would shake my head and think "if only." lol That would just give me a helmet, glue head.
You mentioned in the "questions thread" that you have to learn the amount of product that works for you. This is so true. Unfortunately, during the past 2 years, I had to learn that the hard way. Less is definitely more for me.

I use a maximum of 2 products 90% of the time or else I have wet & white hair syndrome for hours, like 24 hours later or longer.
If I plan to layer my hair with a LI, creme/pudding and finisher, I must put my LI & creme in my hair the night before & use my styler/finisher in the a.m. with hopes my hair is at least 50% dry.
I can only add an oil to my hair after it's 90% dry, and only use enough to sotc.

The only products I seem to be able to layer with good results are SS CEJ & CJCQ. Otherwise, I get goopy, weighed-down curls.
I also recently (see in general forum) stopped using a rinse-out conditioner and opted for a leave-in instead. My hair is fine. So, it gets weighed down easily. If I try to layer products over it, it just doesn't let my curl do its thing. So, for me, less seems to be more.

I read your thread in the general forum. Very interesting. I will be trying this after class tonight.

FWIW, I haven't used KCKT since shortly after I started using KCCC. It worked, but I was never impressed by it. Instead I use Giovanni Direct Leave In, and use the smallest amount I can get out of the bottle. After applying that, I mix a two finger scoop (about 1 tablespoon) of KCCC with similar amounts of DevaCurl B'Leave In (the formula of which has apparently changed since I got mine), and AnGEL to my nearly invisibly fine hair, and squish everything in well. I let it sit while I do other things, and after a few minutes, I find that the whole feel of it changes, and becomes more watery. At that point, I scrunch excess water out of my hair with a flour sack towel, then scrunch some more. After adjusting my part, and root clipping, I leave it alone until dry (either air drying, or drying under a hard hat dryer).
My hair has lots of bounce when I do this, rather than being weighed down.

+1. My hair is 4a fine, and I can't layer all that stuff either. Also creamy, buttery products do not absorb well and my hair would never dry anyway. I normally leave a little bit of conditioner in and then use my styler over that.

I also have trouble layering products. i can layer a light leave-in under olive ecostyler or a spray underneath, but not more than that. my hair also does not absorb products well(especially conditioners) and takes a long time to dry.

I layer, sort of. I add a leave-in, styler, and oil by putting them in my hand at one time and emulsifying. Then I add the mixed product to my twists.

I love layering my products. I start with a leave in, typically a homemade spritz, but I'm on a protein cleanse, so right now I start with a little Y2 cucumbers, then I put castor oil on to seal, then a kccc as a styler.

layering
The only layering I really like is when I use my curl junkie leave-ins (the smoothing lotion condish or the argan oil conditioner). They are thin enough that they absorb easily and then I can layer on a styler. Haven't yet found a better styler than KCCC
