My hair doesn't hold curl

Hi ladies!

Here is my problem: When I finally succeed in styling my hair the way I want, I cannot touch it at all, or it looses its shape. I mean, I can't touch it even after it is completely dry. For example, if I pull my hair pack for a second, pretending I want to put it in a pony tail, and then let it down again, that's enough to ruin the curls. They become loose and weirdly shaped. I think my hair curls well, but it is too soft to hold the curls. The only styling product I use is a little bit of gel when my hair is wet; then I defuse when it dries a bit.

I have 2C/3A low-porosity hair. My hair is protein sensitive and aloe sensitive. I have been modified CG for about 10 months. Currently, I am using these products:

Low poo: Kinky Curly Come clean, Mop C Hydrating shampoo (1 or 2 times a week)
co-wash: Vo5 tea therapy
Rinse-out: Kinky Curly Knot Today
Gel: Aussie Instant Freeze

Has anybody else experienced a similar problem? It is really annoying; I usually can't wear my hair down because the style I have is so fragile and I don't want to risk loosing it in the middle of the day! Can it be that my hair lacks protein? But what can I really do when it's protein sensitive? Are there finishing products that you can suggest?

Thanks a lot!

2c whirly curls, low porosity, medium texture/density

Experimenting, as usual. I've found that these products work well:

Low-poo: Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat shampoo and KC Come Clean shampoo
Cowash: CJ Daily Fix
RO: KCKT, DC OneC,
LI: KCKT (rarely used as a LI)
Stylers: CJ CiaB, KCSS, and homemade flax seed gel (FSG is a total HG btw!!)

OP, it's really important to know your hair properties. Here's a link to help: Live Curly Live Free - Home

All my life, I was told that I had a "fragile" curl. Anything pulled it out. Since coming on nc.com and learning about curly hair in general, and my hair in particular, I no longer have that problem. I started using products! Prior to that, I only used shampoo/conditioner. Added gel in 8/07 (which I don't use anymore) and started with everything else 1/08.

I started as a winter wavy/summer 3a. I've learned to use really rich products to provide moisture--and that my hair never met a protein it didn't like. Now, my hair looks like my signature picture everyday, all year around. It's possible that you just haven't found the right protein(s), especially if your hair is fine. It's all about getting the protein/moisture balance right.

A good haircut is also the foundation of it all!
