My hair has been floating for 10 minutes. WTH
I guess I'm super super super low porosity.

Me too. My hair floated for hours. And I even added a little bit of soapy water to the surface to break the surface tension.

The float test is not very accurate. I'm porous and my hair will float for quite a long time.
Siri types my posts for me.

Mine did too. Even after I pushed it down with my finger, most of it popped right back up. Definitely try the other tests too.

yeah it ended up floating for hours. Based on other descriptive factors, the way products sit on my hair etc, I think I am low porosity. I'll try the strand test next time I wash.

You may want to consider getting a hair analysis to determine exactly what you are dealing with. Check out the Live Curly, Live Free website. It is the best $12.95 I have ever spent.

I think they are going to stop offering that service because of all the product reformulations.

You can still get the basic hair analysis, which tells you your hair properties, but starting June 1, LCLF is going to stop offering the Curl Wizard, which is the one with product recommendations.

Yeah see, I'm low porosity and my hair sinks straight to the bottom. My texturized hair was very high porosity and it floated... So.. This test isn't exactly something I'd take to heart.
There are other tests you can do to determine it though but the best way is to just get your strands tested.

Angels, Struttswife explains about how to judge porosity and describes a "strand test" you can use to evaluate it, here. For me at least, that test was spot on, and confirmed the other signs I was seeing that said "low porosity".
If you want a really definite answer, you can spend $10 and get a hair analysis. It will tell you exactly what your porosity, elasticity, and texture are.

I slide my thumb and index finger on one strand of hair and it squeaks super loud (lol) as well as my fingers kind of "catching" and stopping midway a few times. My hair swallows everything... water, conditioner, stylers, etc... but then after a while, it becomes quite dry and flyaway. My hair is porous. It also floats forever in the water test, so I don't trust the float test either.
If you have high porosity hair, try a protein treatment. If you have low porosity hair, try an intense moisturizing treatment.
