I really like gels and creams.
Milks are normally too heavy for me, and I find I need to use a bit of product to coat my BSL hair.
Mousses dry my hair out quite a bit since most of them contain drying alcohol, but foams work well. I like the DevaCurl Foam, and have been thinking about trying the AG Hair Cosmetics one and the Elucence one. I used the foam back in the winter months followed by a spray gel and had very good results. Since my hair is fine these products didn't weigh me down.
Hairsprays are very drying to me as well because they contain drying alcohols as well. But I do know DevaCurl just came out with one, which you could look into if you like them.
It's not in my signature, but my current HG combo in these summer months is Re:Coil + Curl Keeper. The order doesn't seem to matter and I haven't needed anything with a stronger hold so far. Also, the glycerin in this products hasn't caused a problem with my hair. Nor the magnesium sulfate in Re:Coil.
Like kathymack, I also have fine, low porosity hair, and have never had an issue with any proteins. I can just pile them on my hair and have no issues.
I have also had to be very cautious with using oils. It's not that my hair doesn't like them it's just that take forever/they never absorb into my hair.
