Low Porosity Hair Now What?
Hi everyone,
I'm 6.5 months post relaxer. A couple of weeks ago, I conducted a porosity strand test, and it turns out I have low Porosity hair. This would explain why my hair takes forever to dry with a lot of product in it. Is there anything special I should be doing for my hair? What are good conditioners for low porosity hair? Is it necessary to deep conditioner with heat? My hair is fine/medium texture. My hair type is 3c/4a

Hippiedoll,
I can tell by your question that you already know what you supposed to do. Yes you should DT with heat. The heat opens the hair shaft for the conditioner to get in.
The rest of it is trial and error. Keep up the good work.

Goin'Grey,
May I ask why you don't use the Suave Naturals with coconut. I have not colored in 8 months and I am also going grey. I have low porosity. I don't know if I am protein sensitive. My hair is fine texture and fine density.
Can you tell me which of the Garnier Conditioners is silicone-free (there are so many). I know the ingredients to look for mostly, but I heard a while back they changed the ingredients in one that was previously silicone-free.
Thanks!!!
Anybody???

Body Boost and Pure Clean conditioners are both cone free. Triple Nutrition (formerly cone free), Fall Fight, and Sleek and Shine all have amodimethicone, which is not water soluble. Color Shield, Daily Care, and Length and Strength both have water soluble cones which will cowash out.

CurlyGG, I do use Suave Naturals Coconut conditioner, but very sparingly because I'm protein sensitive and that is the one with protein.
Regarding the GF, you are so right, I have the OLD formula of the Triple Nutrition and it has no bad stuff, but the new formula is off limits for us CG girls now. I will update my siggy to reflect. Sorry for the confusion.

Be careful with using the Curl Rehab as a DC since you hair is fine/medium. I have found that once your hair gets to its optimal level of moisture it is very very easy to OC with Curl Rehab (esp if you are using with heat). I suggest looking for a dc that has a moderate amount of protein in it to alternate with the CR at least sometimes. Just a thought for down the road...

I try to do a protein treatment once a month and clarify once a month. I don't cowash or low poo my hair no more than once a week
