Default HAPPY NEW YEAR! (now help me please :])

Happy new year everyone! To start this year off right, I really need help. For a while I haven't known what to use on my low porosity hair. I have 3c/4a hair. Im trying to stop using shampoo and switch over to only conditioner instead. I use carol's daughter hair milk shampoo and
I use curls coconut curlada conditioner. I also use KCCC as gel, which I find gunky on my hair . Every weekend I steam with coconut oil and just this past week I mixed it with some squalene oil. I've been detangling with a Denman brush when my hair is soaking wet with conditioner. I have been using it less and less and subbing with my fingers and a wide tooth comb because it's better for your hair. As a refresher I use the original moxie hair bling and some water (which I ran out of and will be getting more soon). I was slightly reluctant to include my hair type because it's changing as it gets longer. My hair is thick, mostly coarse except for a patch of fine hair in the back and takes 8 hrs+ to dry. Any tips? :/

Not sure what you're asking. I, like many others, rotate products. My hair always satiated on products, even back in my shampoo/conditioner only days. I wet, use a rinse out and style every day, seldom using any one product more then once in five days. To get ideas about products/ingredients, look for others with hair like yours and see what they use.

To help your hair dry more quickly, you may want to try using curl towels. I apply products to soaking wet hair and wrap in a Curlease towel while I dress and do make up. Then, I scrunch with a Curls Like Us towel to get more water out prior to diffusing.

My hair doesn't care for straight oils/butters, but likes them in products. I use minute amounts of really rich products all of the time to help keep my hair moisturized.

Thanks for replying, I was asking if there were any tips anyone could give me for caring for low porosity hair and any good products that I might be able to use for my hair. Sorry I was unclear . I haven't really seen too many type 3c/4as with low porosity hair.

There are some 4a low porosity types, but you may have to post in either the 4a or general hair board. Are you having a specific issue?

Since you said your hair is coarse, you may need to use a sulfate-free shampoo instead of conditioner washing. This will help remove buildup. Also, you may be using too heavy a hand with your gel if you're getting the gunky feeling. I love KKCC, but I can only use a minute amount on my hair. Otherwise my hair looks dull.

I'd look for low porosity/coarse hair to see what ingredients/products people are using. As multicultcurly suggested, you may want to do that on the 4a board--that's really the most active forum on nc.com.

Because low porosity hair takes a long time to absorb everything, you want to be careful about using too much of any product.

Not sure why you're doing the oils with the steamer. Oil helps seal in the moisture, but it doesn't provide moisture in and of itself. It may help to use a product that's formulated to be a deep treatment (something like CJ Curl Rehab because it's protein free) and see if your hair does better with that.
