Interesting weather?: rained some

Cowash/Lowpoo: DO Lowpoo
RO: DB peach kernel w/added protein
Leave-in: SSI okra
Styler(s): okra gel (first attempt!) and VM gel

Styling Technique: same as usual, used three palmfuls of okra gel after my leave-in, made my hair dry out, I added protein and gelatin so might leave that out next time or try a different type, rewet a bit, shook out, mod-SS, and two nickels of VM, plopped with no heat. I've been getting these weird 90 degree angles at the ends of some of my clumps, think the heat during the plop is setting my hair that way, will see.

First Impressions:

Next day results: started out good but lost wave and had frizz as the day went on. Think I should just use the VM alone and stop combo-ing it with other gels. I got the Max Green Sculpting Gel today so will try that soon.

Second day refresh: too tired to mess with it, will braid it or something tomorrow.

Hi again Lynaea,
I just had to stop by and thank you! I used the Joico K Pack this am and followed with some SM CSM as a leave in and then used some AVG. After plopping I used the Volumax Mega and diffused a bit. My hair was a little crunchy this am but definitely got better as the day went on. My hair was shiny and my waves/curls were bouncy. Hopefully this can be repeated. I just had to say thank you!
Fine texture
Low/ Med porosity
Med density

Wash: SM MR, GTTT
RO: SM MR, GTTT
LI: SM CSM or SM MR
Styling:AVG, KCCC, Volumax MEGA (HG), Joico Curl Definer
Yay! Glad it works for you too I'm finding that using another gel under it leaves my hair softer but loosens the hold, I haven't tried very many combos though.

Leave-in: SSI Okra + SS PT
Styler(s): VM gel

Styling Technique: same as usual, hair was feeling a bit mushy/over conditioned since heavy RO last time, all the humectants in the okra gel I made probably contributed too (AVG & agave & gelatin) so I added some SS PT on top of the okra condish as LI. My hair then dried a bit faster before I put the gel in so my mod-SS was practically full blown, otherwise same as most other days, did heat blast during plop since not doing it didn't make any difference in weird angled ends.

First Impressions:

Next day results: don't think my hair appreciated the SS PT, explains the weirdness no matter what I tried when I was using this as a LI. It was sticky and wave fell fast and kind of frizzy-poofy. Bleh!

Second day refresh: I was just gonna rewet and reapply LI & styler but hair was so sticky even after good rinse that I rewashed.

Interesting weather?:

Cowash/Lowpoo: DO lowpoo
RO: SS CC
Leave-in: SSI okra
Styler(s): VM gel

Styling Technique: mod-SS + flipping hair back and forth is making skinny/stringy clumps so I tried something slightly different. I feel like I need a base layer of gel before I SS but ones I've tried aren't cutting it so after I quick-rinsed my LI I smoothed/raked a big dollop of VM gel through length and somewhat to canopy, THEN I flipped and loosened bangs a bit. Mod-SSed and applied nickel gel S2S, I finger combed my bangs to one side and let everything stay where it fell naturally. Dried S2S w/ MFT and upside down then plopped w/ heat. Hoping for bigger clumps without flat bangs, fingers crossed haha, I think that guys my favorite emoticon.
Added more gel after plop and pixie diffused till crunchy/mostly dry.

First Impressions: not getting good crunch/hold lately, even with VM on own. Not sure if its to do with whatever was sprayed on my hair during cut or if its technique. I have been getting my hair wetter during mod-SS and its been pretty wet when I plop. Need to try making less wet, letting gel do the clumping and drying longer/better with towel.

Next day results: crunch mostly gone by morning, wavy enough but fell out some and had a bit of canopy frizz. I've been reading back over my 'good' days to try to figure out what I'm doing differently. I got the MG sculpting gel so will try combo-ing that with the VM.

Second day refresh: One thing I'm really pleased with, the VM gel is super easy to refresh. I usually wake up second morning with pretty frizzy/fly-away hair from shoving it up over my head throughout the night. BUT, all I have to do is wet my hands and smooth them over the top and down the sides, I also kind of pull all my length together loosely, like if I was gonna do a low ponytail, and scrunch up the ends a bit. Voila, all of the loose bits get stuck back down and for maybe 30 mins I have a glaze of crunch, but that works itself out by the time I get to work and I have smooth, loosely clumpy 2a-ish waves (1st day is more 2b)

Interesting weather?:

Cowash/Lowpoo: AIA Clarity poo; my hairs been weird since the haircut, won't hold crunch yet is roughish and kinda tangly when dry, hoping this helps.
RO: SS CC + SS PT
Leave-in: SSI okra
Styler(s): MG Sculpting gel + VM gel

Styling Technique: applied two dime-nickel dollops MG Sculpting gel after LI and finger combed through from scalp; this stuff is really thick and is the consistency of congealed chicken drippings...so kinda gross but I work in a pathology lab and was a vet tech before that so I've seen worse
Blotted hair with flour sack (FST) and scrunched in two quarter dollops VM gel S2S with wet hands, at this point my hair was gooey enough that I could squish the length of my hair back together to reform clumps. Now that I've done that again I'm thinking this is the step that's been missing the last several tries. I decided not to plop so I dried a bit more with FST S2S and USD and immediately pixie diffused. I always do the first bit USD then do S2S until moderately dry and getting crunchy, then go USD again to dry canopy a bit better, did final blast from top down.

First Impressions: I'm not sure whether the MGSculpt added anything, the consistency makes it seem like it would be excellent for clumpage but the amount I used wasn't enough to notice a difference. For whatever reason though I feel like a need a base layer of gel, I think mostly I am afraid the VM is so thick I'm likely to miss spots and at least with a base I'll know I'm mostly covered. Also, its easier to apply gel to my canopy/scalp area when my hair is fairly wet and I'm still in the shower but the VM doesn't do well when I rewet to help form clumps, hmm. I'm sure i'll come up with more ways to try this combo. Hair really crispy after diffusing, good wave and clumps, so far so good.

Next day results: So, I guess I was in the mood for trying new things yesterday because after all of the above I then decided to try pineappling for the first time. My hair was pretty crunchy when I started however the first try was too low, the second was better but then I wasn't really ready to lay down and it was too loose and mostly fell out. So then I gave up, all that manipulation managed to work out most of the lovely crunch I'd managed and by the time I laid down only the last 5 inches or so were still crunchy. Worked out okay though, still had pretty waves today though top bit was less wavy than I'd like. All and all I'd say my experimentation was a success. I might try pineappling for second day hair but I don't think it's gonna work for just styled, crunchy hair, will see. Pic below is from this am.

Second day refresh: smoothed strays on canopy with wet hands.

Second day results: ends still nicely wavy, top straighter but very shiny. I think if crunch hadn't been released prematurely top would still be wavy.
Actually managed third day hair with this (though my scalp was getting itchy), ends were still wavy and top went very smooth, soft, shiny. Pretty pleased

Cowash/Lowpoo: DO Lowpoo
RO: SS CC
Leave-in: SSI okra + DO condish
Styler(s): MGSculpt

Styling Technique: hair still felt rough (?) after LI so added some DO hydrating CO also. Used MGSculpt only, about palmful x2 raked through, feeling lazy so I just flipped and loosened bangs canopy, plopped for about n hour and pixie diffused to mostly dry.

First Impressions: Hair got crunchy but not as hard as VM, clumps are small d/t not styling right.

Next day results: wimpy waves, barely any crunch to scrunch

Second day refresh: not really necessary, styler feeling essentially gone, hair smooth and silky (ie too soft/slick to hold a wave). Put in a flipped-through ponytail, no frizz.

Second day results: probably the DO condish overwhelmed the gel but the gel is also pretty moisturizing so it was all just too much for my wimpy waves. It looked and felt good regardless though.

Leave-in: SSI okra
Styler(s): MGSculpt & VM gel

Styling Technique: dime of LI and let sit during shower, wide-combed thru and quick-rinsed, added dime MGSculpt and finger-combed thru. Dried hair briefly with FST and flipped/shook, fixed bangs/part and mod-SS very little, added quarter VM gel S2S and canopy. Plopped briefly, added more VM, pixie diffused to mostly dry and crunchy. Took a pic for the SOTC thread

First Impressions: good-n-crunchy, though the MGSculpt lessens it a bit and makes it fall out faster.

Next day results: Yay, pretty hair! This combo gives me decent waves with soft hair that I don't feel the need to 'fix' or run my fingers thru all day and holds up well enough for 2nd day hair. Gonna put this in my 'guaranteed good hair' file and see what other combos I can come up with, I'd be willing to sacrifice some softness for a bit more wave. I think the MG gels are a bit too moisturizing for me. The VM gel on its own is guaranteed goody too!

Leave-in: SSI okra + DO condish
Styler(s): none

Styling Technique: I figured I'd give my hair and myself a break and not style my hair so I just washed and did a LI. I only mixed a dime of the DO with the okra cause the SSI has glycerin towards the bottom of its ingredients. I pink-combed it thru, left on for shower then quick rinsed. I flipped to loosen bangs then FST dried and plopped, I did two heat blasts to dry my hair some before bed. Let it air dry overnight.

Next day results: woke to soft, fairly shiny, if slightly tangled hair, finger-combed it a bit and had nice 2A hair. Pic is from first thing this morning, it settled a bit through the day, got less poofy/volume and more smooth. I also had it in a bun part of the day.

Second day refresh:

Second day results: didn't really refresh since it was essentially straight with a body wave, very minimal frizz or poof, I'm kind of surprised. Wore it for three days, last day it was braided.

Interesting weather?: rainy wash day

Cowash/Lowpoo: CJ DF
RO: SS PT
Leave-in: SSI okra
Styler(s): VM gel

Styling Technique: My hair seemed overmoisturized the last week or so, think the lack of protein in the daily fix plus the purported moisture in the MG gels caused it. When I scrunched my wet hair after co-washing it was mushy and barely held any wave so I used the SS PT, put it in a shower cap and left it in for rest of shower (maybe 5-10 minutes, so not really a PT), wave held way better after just that little bit. Did LI & patted water on my scalp to smooth tine lines rather then quick rinse to keep more protein in. Scrunched out excess h2o and flipped/loosened canopy, fixed part and raked thru VM gel S2S (maybe half-dollar each), scrunched in another quarter each side and squished length together to reform clumps and rescrunched. Dried with FST s2s & USD, pixie diffused as usual, got good crunch all the way to roots, good waves and clumps, left maybe 25% damp to air dry.

Next day results: frizz and loose waves, its rainy still and the VM gel scrunched out almost as soon as I laid down last night. .???

RO:
Leave-in: SSI Okra Condish
Styler(s): MG styling gel, Volumax Mega gel

Styling Technique: combed thru leave-in & quick-rinsed, squeezed & raked two pumps MGStyleG into length and finger combed third pump through from crown. Dried length briefly with FST, flipped/shook to loosen canopy and used fingers to loosen bang area, scrunched in quarter dollop VM gel each side. Removed excess water with FST and plopped w/ two heat blasts. Added one nickel gel after plop and diffused till scalp area just damp and rest crunchy.

Next day results: beautiful big clumpy waves after SOTC and my hair was still very crunchy this morning. Held up very well through the day. Minimal frizz, used wet hands to smooth canopy a bit this morning, nothing anyone else would notice but, you know.

Second day refresh: Wet hands and added pea of VM gel, mixed and scrunched into length (down the length and up from the bottom) and smoothed over canopy, each side, pixie diffused briefly to set.

Second day results: May be wavier / clumpier today then yesterday! There's a bit more frizz/fly-aways, but I did sleep on it twice. I smoothed it a bit with wet hands and that helped. I'll try to get a pic.

New things to try: I'm thinking the VM gel is so water soluble that just my hair being too wet when applied is enough to 'rinse' it out. I'm thinking the extra bit after plopping is really necessary, my hair seems crunchier/stiffer than last time. Ideally I should probably apply the VM to damp hair but I think its too thick for that to work well. I'm also really leaning toward just getting nice 2A waves rather than 'as-wavy-as-I-can-get-it', the MGSG + VM combo seems to work well for that. The PJ in me is a little upset that I seem to have found some HG products, I'm still really tempted to try other things. Ugh!

This isn't the best pic but the others were too blurry. Day 1

Styling Technique: Attempting to do the exact same technique as last time to see if I can get consistent results. I've been experimenting a lot the last six months or so and I was getting frustrated again, gonna try sticking with this for a bit. I'll probably still go styler-less occasionally too.
Currently plopped, will add more VM when I take it down and pixie diffuse till its nice and crunchy. ....
I'm afraid that I didn't get it clumpy enough before I plopped, last time I felt like I used a smidgen more VM than was really necessary so I used just slightly less before plopping. I think my clumps are smaller this time, will see tomorrow, hair is nice and crispy-crunchy, it sounds like dry leaves when I shake my head.

Next day results: looked really good this morning .... Then I went outside .... And then I had rough feeling frizzy hair, not just a little bit either, a lot, from the crown all down the length. I smoothed it with wet hands shortly after I got to work but I was still taming frizzy bits all day long, bleh! So when I got home and actually had a chance to think about it I realized the only real difference was my cowash, so I checked the ingredients ..... GLYCERIN!!? As the 4th ingredient, arrggghhhh! It was at the end of the first row after several double named (xxxx)ed ingredients so I completely missed it when I was looking through my stash for something with protein to use as a cowash. I guess I can't use glycerin in a cowash/RO either, I rinsed it out really well too .... back to the Products Reviews page I go to research ingredients.

Second day refresh: I sprayed a LOT of Ouidad Botanical Boost on my hands and scrunched / smoothed it through, I doubt anything but a wash is going to get rid of the frizz though, updo tomorrow.

Cowash/Lowpoo: DO Poo

Styler(s): CIAB + VM gel

Styling Technique: LI as usual with quick rinse, smoothed and raked palmful CIAB through length, added a bit more to work thru canopy, wide-combed thru. Blotted with FST, flipped/shook, added quarter+ VM gel S2S, raked, scrunched, blotted S2S and USD, plopped awhile with heat blast. Added nickel more VM S2S after plop, pixie diffused to crispy-crunchy and mostly dry, cooled down under AC vent cause the cool shot on my blowdryer is a PITA.

First impressions: the CIAB felt good going on, didn't flash dry like the MG gels do, seemed to help with clumping too, they started forming as soon as I added the VM gel and stayed thru scrunching and plopping with minimal manual 'reclumping'. The crunch feels different, dryer yet lighter(?), it feels like it will last thru the night though. Wave formation is good too. So far so good

Next day results: ooh baby! My hair was still fairly crunchy when I woke up, SOTC'd after getting dressed, ended up with Beautiful, soft, shiny, frizz-free waves! It was so soft I kept touching it all day but there was still only a bit of frizz, even after being in a breeze after work. I'm very impressed with this combo. I'm afraid though that the CIAB will end up being too moisturizing also and I'd really like to use stylers, and well, everything, with protein so I stopped at Sally's after work and got the GVP liquid sculpting gel. It has the same styling ingredient as CIAB but no humectants and lots of protein. It has a very fruity smell which may be an issue but I'll try that next. Pic below from shortly after SOTC.

My hair is softer yet had better clumps and held up better then either MG gel with the VM. If it weren't for the claims to be moisturizing I would just stick with this.

Second day refresh: I wasn't sure what to do with such soft hair, the clumps were great and lasted all day but were so soft I nearly pulled one apart when I was rearranging it. I ended up using a bunch of the Ouidad Botanical Boost smoothed and scrunched through followed by wet hands, some crunch reformed on the outer layer and length so I'm gonna go with that.

Second day results: more frizz today, still really nice waves and I'm loving the softness, by the end of the day I could pretty much pull the clumps apart an it was starting to poof some. Ugg, must be the agave nectar. Trying the GVP LSG tonight.

New things to try: GVP LSG, CJ Curl Fix, CJ lowpoo, are there any 'cleansing' conditioners with protein? The DailyFix is great but my scalp seems vaguely itchy after using it and it doesn't have any protein in it. Time for more research!

Cowash/Lowpoo: DO lowpoo
RO: SS PT + DO RO

Styler(s): GVP LSG + VM gel

Styling Technique: essentially tried to duplicate what I did with the CIAB. I skipped the SSI LI because it has glycerin (end of list) and I'm trying to eliminate frizz. The LSG felt similar going on but did a bit of that protein drying thing, not bad, but noticeable. I gave it a quick rinse after wide combing, probably shouldn't have. It didn't clump as easily when I added the VM gel and it felt different then the CIAB from beginning to end. I have good crunch but I had to add more VM to the roots/top after diffusing cause it was getting soft and a bunch of baby hairs were sticking up, probably a diffusing issue. I think it will survive the night but I'm not optimistic of it beating out the CIAB/VM combo. Fingers crossed though.

Next day results: looked great first thing in the morning, good wave and clumps but soft and frizz-free. BUT it kept forming super-waves throughout the day where the clumps would all spiral together. I kept pulling the ones at the sides apart but it looked like I was getting them in the back too. The wave loosened through the day too, I don't understand why when I combo two medium to hard hold stylers I tend to get less hold. Maybe its the lack of LI? Either way, the CIAB was much better from application to results, I could have gone three days with that. I knew it didn't feel right from the beginning with this combo. Weird, you'd think more protein plus more hold would equal awesome, maybe its an application /technique issue like I rinsed too much of the LSG out when I quick rinsed?. Oh well, back to CIAB + VM next time, fingers crossed for a repeat of last time.

Second day refresh: not bothering, its already loose waves I can finger comb right out.

Second day results:

New things to try: I really want to try more CJ products; the lowpoo, and curl fix and maybe repair me. I really need to sell or swap some of the stuff I'm not using first though but I don't have time to go through it all yet, maybe next month.
