Default I HATE the new Bare Minerals packaging! Any recs for me?

I just opened a new container. When I noticed the new packaging, I flipped the container over and wasn't surprised to see that it contained .42 ounces, instead of the usual .3. Which when it comes to super lightweight powder, that's kind of a big difference.

But that didn't put me off too much. The price hasn't changed in many years, so I suppose something had to give.

But the new container is just dumb. The old one was a very simple but functional design. It had an insert with holes it it for shaking out the powder, which was easy to use. If you wanted to, you could remove the insert and access the product directly, which came in handy when I was almost out. I used to get almost a week's worth of use out of that last bit of powder.

Now they've got this thing sealed up completely with this complex swiveling shaker lid. I tried to pull it apart and I cannot. It's messy to use, there's product suck in odd places and I'm guessing I will end up throwing out quite a bit of product stuck in the bottom of the container.

I've always toyed with trying other mineral makeups, but it always came back to "Bare Minerals works for me, why fix something that isn't broken?" Well, Bare Escentuals "fixed" their container even though it wasn't broken, and it looks like they lost me as a customer in the process.

I just realized the extra bulk from the nonsensical packaging is taking up the space where the surplus product used to be, which is particularly annoying.

Okay, time for the non-rant portion of my post. Maybe I should try Meow Cosmetics instead? Any recs for some good, comparable products?

I'm no math genius...but isn't .42 larger than .3?

I've never been a fan of Bare Minerals. I'm a Meow fan of many years. They offer samples of everything, so you can always try it before investing in full-size.

Meow is running a sale right now...17% off and free shipping. Not sure of the code right now...I'll edit this post later and add it.

I hate shaking out minerals. I take the insert out of every single jar.

EDIT: code is: GreenCat

Thumbs up

i'm a meow fan. i never even tried another mineral brand and i've been happy with meow. i recently picked up some of their highlighters and even a bronzer. i like it all. i don't wear their shadows. i still use mac mostly but i also recently fell in love nyx ultra pearl mania for my eyes, awesome and the same ingredients as my mineral foundation.

I used to love Bare Minerals, but it started to make my skin somewhat itchy/prickly when I was applying it, so I stopped. I saw some really good reviews for MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, so I picked some up 2 weeks ago in the Medium shade. I love it. No itch, no sinking into my fine lines, it looks very natural, and it builds very well if you need more coverage some days. It's a pressed powder, and I apply it with a Sephora brush. I paid $27 for it.

I use bare escentuals and it's basically the same thing. I hate liquid foundation so i use powders and creams. They have very good stuff but i'm definitely not liking the new design. I use a lot of their eye shadows also. I have about 40 and they don't have the lock lids. I also use Lancome, Prescriptives and Benefit, and i used to use a MAC bronzer but it dries out your skin horribly after a while so i started using Hope In a Jar under any type of powder i plan to use.

I'm with you - I think .42 is bigger than .3! (But hey - not a math person!)

I've been using Everyday Minerals for years, and love it. www.everydayminerals.com

I'm pretty sure she meant .24 oz - that seems to be the size they're selling now. And ArJay1230, Bare Minerals and Bare Escentuals are literally exactly the same thing: Bare Escentuals = brand, Bare Minerals = line.

I hate those new Bare Minerals lids, too. I haven't worn BM foundation in a while, though--I had switched to the Merle Norman mineral makeup, and liked it. It has a nice glow to it. This time I decided to try Meow, but it's taking FOREEEEEEVER to ship, and meanwhile, I'm out of foundation. My mom had a sample of Everyday Minerals to get me through, and I have to say, I'm loving it. I may order Everyday Minerals next time.

Yes, that is what I meant, it was a typo. Thank you for clearing that up wild_ sasparilla!

Thanks to everyone who had a rec, I'm going to do a little reading about these products and they are a great starting point.

I too hate the new packaging. My husband managed to get the darn thing open so I could get the last of the product out...I will find out how he did this. We may have ended up cutting the plastic...can't remember. I hate any product really that you can not get the last of a product out of...especially something so expensive.

As too Bare Minerals...I still like it and I like that I can just go pick it up at any Ulta without having to wait on shipping etc. I have thought about going back to a liquid...but then I remember all those pictures where my face looks like a ghost thanks to liquid foundation....

That ghost look is probably due to the physical sunscreen in some liquid foundations. You'd just have to look for one that doesn't have physical sunscreen and, of course, matches your skin.

Okay, bumping this thread because I figured out how to open the new bare minerals packaging. Using a dime, flip it over and remove the bottom. Wa La! LOL

I hate packaging that I can't get all the product out of...especially glass bottles. Irks me that I pay that much but can't get to the product.
