I've had mild issues with breakouts since my teens. BP pills helped a bit but I've been off then for 3 years.

Tried pro- active, murad, ddh as well as lots of OTC brands. I don't know if it's timing/ coincidence, but I started using a soap- vegetable based but otherwise nothing unique, and my skin rarely breaks out.

I'm 42, 7.5 months pregnant now, and still clear after a year. I came upon this soap after reading some customer feedback on my company's website in which they reported similar results for troubled skin.

It's cheap, lasts forever & doesn't dry out my skin. I keep thinking we need to try a focus group to see if there really is a specific market - and offer an affordable solution for acne treatment. If someone is interested in trying it, send me a pm.

I've been using Garnier's PureActive toner since I last posted and it appears to be working. The marks are smaller, spots are smaller and the mess in my pores across my cheeks chin and nose is clearing up.

It stings a little around my mouth but it's a small price to pay for clearer skin.

I have struggled with acne since I was a teenager (I'm 30). I went on accutane twice but the results were temporary and I had some nasty long term side effects.

The oil cleansing method works for me (well the best I've come across, not like I am totally clear). I use castor oil and jojoba or apricot kernal. When I am not pregnant I use a few drops of tea tree oil too. My skin feels so clean, lightly moisturized, and exfloliated from the washcloth afterwards. I use a toner of rosewater and a smidge of witch hazel if I feel oily, which is rarely. With a bad breakout I use salycic acid (I like neutrogena clear pore treatment) because benzol peroxide doesn't work well for my 30 year old skin. I use a light spf moisturizer too. It is hard to balance acne prone but beginning to age skin!

I agree, if you get curls you should automatically get easier to care for skin.

After a random breakout last week, I'm back to awesomeness. Even a cyst that's cropped uplast week that I thoywas going to stick around forever (as my cysts are prone to do), I am totally clear today. I'm wearing foundation to even out my skintone, but I didn't even glance at concealer today.

Another update---

I had a facial on Wednesday and the woman who does mine was FLOORED by how good my skin looked. She knows my history really well and agreed that my skin hasn't ever looked like this. And it's not just looks, either, it's overall health.

For years I've been in the somewhat unconscious habit of, first thing when I wake up in the morning before I even get out of bed or really even open my eyes, I reach for my face to see what's going on that day-- did I break out? Did a problem I already had get bigger or smaller? But lately I touch it first thing in the morning just to see how smooth it is. There's nothing else to check.

I'm kinda freaked out by the whole thing, just because it's so unusual.

Also, I inadvertently wore my foundation for 48 ours over the weekend (went to a wedding Saturday, crashed without taking it off, woke up hungover and didn't take it off, went to bed exhausted so I didn't take it off-- I know, it's awful), and nary a problem. Amazing. Completely ridiculously amazing.

That's awesome!! Very happy for you!

Last night when I was at WalMart I bought the Acne Free 5% BP that you had mentioned. I'm going to try wearing that during the day and keep using the 10% at night. The 10% was drying my face out way too much to be able to keep using it during the day (though I did like that it kept the oiliness at bay for awhile). My skin is starting to look a ton better as well. I just need to make an appointment to get an extraction facial done and see how much better it can get.

I wish my skin would do something that awesome.

It's got so bad now I've gone back on the Yasmin. It was so depressing having such crappy skin without it.

Another update--

Had another facial today. She and I are both amazed. I've had literally nothing but the tiniest little clogged pores lately. Nothing. I mean, the tiniest of clogged pores. Absolutely nothing has been more complex than that.

I barely even know what to think. It's spectacular. And it's been for a long time. This is completely unheard of.

Okay, so I've relapsed just the tiniest bit. I've been getting very very small cysts under my jawline, which don't look like much at all but itch like a fother mucker, so I often end up extracting them which is no good.

I've had a few more clogged pores than I've had over the last few months-- I still can't believe it's been three months since I started to clear up, and I"m still mostly clear.

I had a facial last night and she get a very satisfying extraction on a blackhead that I hadn't even noticed. She did a peel to help reset me and I'm going to be super OCD about using the BP for the coming weeks to see if my laziness is the cause. If it's not, and I'm still having issues when I'm diligent, then I'll think about changing my tactics.

Generally speaking, though, I'm still doing well and am still happy. I have significantly fewer problems now than I've ever had, even though I'm not as clear now as I was 4-6 weeks ago. Life long effort will be required.

My skin started breaking out really badly and going bright red. I started using the aloe Vera range from the body shop and both problems have calmed right down. There are still some spots but not as many and only little ones.

I'm thinking of treating myself to a professional facial soon.

I really don't know what they're called, or if they have a name.

The woman who does them has been waxing my eyebrows for over five years. I wouldn't ever let her touch my skin, because i had a traumatic facial in high school and believed them all to be of the deebil. She was patient, picked up on my subtle "Facials are the most awful thing ever" riffs, and said nothing. For years.

About a year an a half ago, maybe two years ago, I lamented that I needed to do something new with my routine, that I was frustrated and didn't know where to go. She, after years of seeing my skin, offered to do a facial. After working with her for that long, I trusted her to not to any damage.

She does my facials based on what I need. This usually involved a peel of some kind, as well as something moisturizing, as well as extractions. It all varies based on what I seem to need at the time.

Why do you ask? Did you have any suggestions?

I'm just wondering if she uses any machines. I'm in love with my consumer version of an ultrasound facial machine, and will probably be buying a pro, or at least a semi-pro version. It's awesome for cleaning pores and gentle exfoliation.

Lately no, no machines save the steamer during the peel. She has in the past used a machine that, and don't quote me on this, but as I understood it used a low electrical current to kill bacteria. We haven't needed to use it lately.

I'll ask her about ultrasound. Can you link me to what you have? I'm curious.

It's going pretty well, though not as amazingly as it had been for a while. I got pretty lazy about my routine around holidays and paid for it. I'm back on track now, and I've seen improvement again.

One of the bet things about having gotten to where I am is that it's infinitely easier to identify other products that are having a negative impact on my skin. Recently I was able to determine within a couple of days that a lip balm was breaking me out, and threw it away-- breakout went away. Right now I think my toothpaste might be the culprit for a breakout, and I'm going to go get something different today.

My skin is still a work in progress but progress is going a lot faster than it ever has in the past.

Please don't give up. I never thought I'd have one either, and I haven't quite even gotten one, but I do finally feel like I'm not fighting a totally futile battle. Bad days are still a thing. They're just not as bad and don't last as long.

I've struggled with acne my whole life too :/ I used to get whiteheads and painful red cysts but thankfully that stage is over, albeit without wrecking my face with scars, but now I get weird under my skin, non- inflammatory acne. It's not as bad as before but DEFINTELY annoying. I find that retinoids and exfoliating with my clarisonic help though
