Thanks, ninja! It's something I say to my tea party friends often.

Try to stay very still or rest your face lightly on your fist to steady yourself. Now step back. This really helped me to know my face shape. That, or you could just post a pic.

A quick trick is to line your lower waterline with a creamy white pencil. It widens the eyes very well. NYX cream shadowstick in Milk is a good one. But it is very soft, so apply lightly.
Shoot, I did something on point all on my own, lol. I just messed around, found that I liked it put on that way, and left it.

Here's a hair-pulled-back no makeup pic.

Thanks for the pic! You have an oval face shape, which has the most options for wearing various makeup styles. E.g., you can wear your blush in virtually any shape you like.

Re: tips for small eyes/glasses wearers, you don't seem to have small eyes to me. Do you normally wear undereye concealer? Curling your eyelashes opens up the eyes too.

Filling in the brows will frame the face and define the eye area. I don't know if it work for everyone to open the look of their eyes, but different things do work for different people.
Whether or not I wear concealer under my eyes depends on the season. Ragweed is still active right now, so I wear it. Allergy times really enhance those circles.

You have a point. My eyes don't look as little in that pic as they do in my mind. Weird.

They look little when I smile, but I guess that's more normal.

Obviously not Phoenix, but I use the Maybelline brow powder in dark brown. It's the perfect shade and my eyebrows are pretty dark.
lol, this is what I was going to rec!

Also Ardell Brow Palette in Medium Brown, and Ben Nye pressed e/s powder in Twilight Sable. Ardell is sold in Sally's and other places. But Ben Nye is mainly sold only or in makeup/theatre supply shops.

Concealer brightens up the eye area, which is especially helpful when one wears glasses.

I'm dealing with allergies now! Have you found this year to be particularly heinous for allergies? Wow, mine are killing me.

It's been a horrible year for allergies!

My sinuses ache almost daily. Even my prescription nose spray hasn't eliminated all my symptoms.

Very aggravating.

Which product do you use for that? The concealer in a slightly lighter shade is a great idea. I do this also to cover my seborrheic dermatitis. BUT a shimmery concealer (a highlighter, I guess?) will call attention to the area rather than hide it. Best to use one without shimmer.

Glad to help!!

I use maybelline mineral power concealer. Sometimes I'll use the salmon color (unfortunately a bit dark for me) in the Sonja Kashuk concealer palette first and layer the maybelline over the top. I figure if the salmon color helps with under eye circles and age spots, it should help with the darker areas in the nasal labial folds. I just make this stuff up as I go along and hope I'm doing more good then harm.

Hi Phoenix. What are you thoughts about a deep red lipstick on me (66 yrs. old?) I bought the cheapest dark red lipstick I could find ($2.27), just to try it and it brightened my face, but I have questions.

My lips aren't too thin and people say I don't look my age. (LadyV69, SarcasmisBeauty and Scrills have seen me in person so maybe they could voice an honest opinion) but I'm concerned about not looking too vampy at this age.

My skin is a very pale, light cream, dark hazel eyes and light brown kind of caramel hair (curly bob). I can wear peach lipstick and blush but it doesn't make my face "pop" like the dark red does. Pink looks wrong. I need something with "oomph." Beiges make me look sallow.

What do you think? I don't want to look silly or like mutton trying to pass for lamb (or whatever that expression is). Also, if I do choose to wear a dark red lipstick, what should I do with the rest of my makeup?

Thanks much for any advice!

ETA: For some reason my naked lip color is very dark - almost a plum. I'm lucky that way - people say I don't "need" lipstick, but I always wear some, often something to tone down the color, but today I tried this new dark red.

I just need tips on everyday make-up, what colours might suit me, how and where to apply eyeliner (I never think I get it right) and how best to apply eyeshadow (I have high eyebrows, I think, and never know where to stop!). Also any inside tips on covering dark shadows as mine are dreadful. Could you do that, just from a photo on the net?!
I probably shouldn't have put "just" at the beginning of this post.

If it brightens your face and you like it, then definitely wear it. I’ve seen women your age look AMAZING in red lipstick. But I wouldn’t go too dark. Dark reds can overwhelm fair skin. A few examples:
.

All 3 of them are wearing heavy, opaque reds. They all could wear red but should lighten up the shade a bit and maybe consider applying the lipstick over a lip balm or gloss for a more sheer look. Dark, heavy lipsticks can make the mouth look cavernous, especially on thin lips (although you said yours aren’t thin).

With red lips, I’d suggest wearing a few good coats of black mascara on your top lashes. You could also add a thin line of black or brown liner as well. Noticeable but not overly dark eye makeup will balance out the intense color on your lips. It won’t look garish.

I’d suggest taking a picture of yourself wearing the lipstick and then taking a look. Looking at a picture of yourself versus a mirror image gives you a different perspective to form an opinion.

It’s hard to give my opinion without a picture. So feel free to repost your pic (I know I’ve seen one before).

Hi Phoenix

Thanks for the info! The idea of not overdoing the eye makeup makes good sense to me. I'm going to try blotting the lipstick until it's really just a stain, and then lightly put a bit of clear gloss on top to soften it even more.

My skin tone is a much paler version of the middle picture - more cream than pink tone. I'll experiment!
