Ooh! Blue eyebrows!

The Shu curler just plain did not fit my eye. I couldn't get a curl at all. What kind of a curl did it give you, P?
I think women who wear very little or no makeup look unfinished. I just do. I'm envious of their self-confidence, but I still wouldn't do it anyway. Makeup adds polish and pop, and it's too much fun to go without, though I do get tired of always having to "get ready" to go somewhere. But, I've noticed a dramatic difference between the way I am treated when looking more polished and when looking not-so-polished. I prefer the former.

There are a rare few women who actually look better without makeup. I've seen a few, but a very rare few. It's your choice to go without, and it's my opinion and choice to say that, to me, you look tired and/or unfinished. I know *I* surely do.

I admire women who go without. It shows a sense of confidence and thumbing of the nose at gender expectations. We don't expect men to wear makeup to look finished or polished, so holding women to a different standard just plays into sexist roles.

Makeup is fun. But, if I ever get to a point where I think I need it to function in daily life, you all need to come over here and slap some sense into me.

I don't "expect" women or men to *do* anything. I'm not "holding" anyone else to any standard. I, myself, said that not wearing it suggests a level of confidence, of which I am envious. I look better with makeup and am treated more respectfully when I do wear it, so that's how *I* choose to represent myself publicly.

To pretend that most of us don't play into sexist roles by improving our appearance one way or another is ludicrous--whether it be by wearing flattering, often gender-specific clothing; combing/styling/coloring/washing our hair; bathing; shaving/waxing; brushing our teeth; wearing fragrance; grooming our nails; etc. To do none of these things would show the ultimate display of self-confidence, right? Why not just roll out of bed each day and hit the ground running...right out the door? Because we and others hold ourselves and others to standards...those standards just vary from person to person and, more truthfully, from moment to moment. As in, one moment, you're on nc.com critiquing my personal opinion for "playing into sexist roles" and "holding others to standards" and in the next moment you're preening in the mirror applying Dior Show mascara and fluffing up your curls....

If anyone wants to come and slap some sense into me...bring it. Better bring your "A" game, though.

Mostly, this was just an experiment to see how quickly someone would violate the rules of this thread, which are supposed to allow people to freely speak their minds without reproach. I didn't think so for one second, so I consider my experiment a success.

Both sides have their merit. There are plenty of women who use their looks because they realize they aren't geniuses, though they're smart enough to know that men (and plenty of women too) will do things for a pretty woman that they won't do for an ugly one.

But, on the flip side, beauty does matter, though it sucks.

On topic, I haaaaaaaaaate color on my face. I feel best with a neutral type of look. I feel ridiculous and overblown in strong colors on such a pale face.

I love color on my nails. Darks, brights, lights, whatever. My face and hands are the same color, so the logic baffles me.

i wish i could pull off red lipstick but i really cant. i think its because its such a bold color that it draws attention to my uneven teeth so i like lighter colors, the brightest color ive worn is a magenta
I am not a fan of drugstore makeup and I finally realized the most important reason (although that did not stop me from trying out an NYX lipstick last week, but that's another story): I am skeeved out about the fact that folk open up the regular products to use as testers, and are shameless about it. I was in ULTA and wanted to buy NYX Eros lipstick, and try another one since they were on sale. While I was there, a woman was opening the eye pencils and trying them out. Several of them. In Target last week, a woman was polishing her nails with a bottle she grabbed from the shelf. And in another store, every single lipstick in the CoverGirl section had been opened, and some visibly tried out. Why do people do that?!? One being opened is bad enough, but why EVERY. SINGLE. ONE?!? Is the fourth tube of Berry Bling lipstick any different than the first? Just. UGH. Forget about it. Give me my stuff from behind a counter with controlled access any day.

And here I was trying to go low-maintenance. I can't. Not if that is what I have to look forward to.

I posted this on the other Say It thread before remembering that this one exists now:

So annoying. Another forum I'd only joined to make one post apparently has no way to deal if you forget your username, so I can't reply to tell this chick that no, she's not "always protected" because she uses SPF15 foundation. I'm sure she doesn't glop on more every 2 hours. The non-sunscreen-user she thinks she's doing so much better than gets far more sun protection than her on a daily basis because she doesn't lull herself into a false sense of security.
OMG, LOOK!!

...It's a siggie.
I tried a new eye shadow palate today. I'm not sure how I like it yet. It's very different from what I usually wear. It's gold and navy blue, first time for both. The colors on the palate are quite vibrant, but mute each other out when blended. That was a bit disappointing. The color combo is having a very strange effect on my eye color. It will take some getting used to, but it's starting to grow on me.
Jennifer Hudson is looking so good now.
