Natural oil/remedy for reducing scars?
Hello ALL!
Its my first time posting on the makeup/skincare board! I recently broke/cut my big toe on my right foot. After the stitches were removed I couldn't feel or move any of my toes. I found out that the cut had done some nerve/tendon damage as well as fracture my toe. I had surgery to fix the tendon. Now I have a big ugly scar on my toe. I can't wear closed toe shoes comfortably yet and I am very self conscious about the scar. Can anyone recommend any oils or other natural ways to reduce the scar? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

I had surgery on my back a few weeks ago and my physio has recommended a repeated horizontal massage across it to help break it up. She said to do this with baby oil.
I tried bio oil on scars and it didn't do much.

My main advice is to say no one will notice it as much as you do, if they notice it at all. IME there are so few people that will notice it, or think less of you because of it, that it's just not worth any negative feelings.
Massaging with lotion is supposed to help break up scar tissue. And pretty much anything that promotes healing. It will get better over time no matter what. It just takes longer than the initial healing.

Thank you! I am currently trying castor oil and thinking about getting a "scaraway" oil from heritage products. I know no one will notice, but I hate it so I want it to go away or at least be less visible to me.

I have a friend that used vitamin E oil on 20 year old stretch marks and they went away! I don't think anybody will notice your scar and if they do, just make up a great story to tell them! Good luck!

I second the vitamin E! I had 3 foot surgeries in the span on 1 year. One scar was large, and on the pad of my foot, and the other 2 ran down the length on my big toe's. Vitamin E was recommended to me by my pediatrist, local health food store owners, and 2 women who work in health/nutrition services. I did it, and you would have to use a magnifying glass and spot light to see my scars.
It works best when applied daily, and then exposed to sun for no more than 10 minutes. The combination of E, and Vitamin D from the sun, speed up the healing process and further reduce scaring. I'm not sure how easy it is for you to expose the area now, due to the weather where you live, but taking vitamin D (eating/drinking things rich in it) might help if it's not a valid option.

Have you tried Mederma? It was really good with some scars I had and you can get it over the counter.

Another vote for Vit. E oil.. it's the best! You can even use it on old scars to improve their appearance.
ETA: Just make sure it has a high I.U. number.. I have two bottles of Vit. E oil.. one has 12K I.U. and the other has 70K I.U. and that one is much thicker than the former one, almost like a gooey gel.

Argan Oil
Argan Oil. It's supposedly a higher concentration of Vitamin E oil. Works great for my hyperpigmentation from my acne scars.

^^^you come in here and make these pronouncements (like your foolish one about lipstick last week) and then disappear.
some people are highly allergic to "natural" remedies and many of them have no effect at all.

remedies didn't ever work for me so i would not suggest them to you. I tried invicible scar on my scars. It took i guess 2 or 3 weeks to completely flatten my scars. It's a good product. Go for it if you like. It won't be available at any store and you'd have to buy it online. A little drawback here !! Else , everything's fine with it

I used coco butter on a massive scar on my calf (knee to ankle and wrapped around about 40% of my calf) and it completely faded after a few months. And if you end up hating it, it smells delicious and makes a great body lotion

I'm kinda a scar expert. I have a genetic illness called Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT)disease. Because of this illness, I have had over 30 surgeries in the last 25 yrs including a below the knee leg amputation.
So as to scars, rubbing a scar with or without oil works for flattening the scar & it will help remove scar tissue which could give u pain later. I would recommend an oil whose texture and smell you love. Also, enjoy the massage cuz any surgery is stressful. Depending on ur skin, scars do fade over time.
Also, the lack of sensation in ur toe is called neuropathy. Neuropathy can change over time causing all sorts of odd feeling in ur foot. If it annoys u, talk to ur doctor cuz meds can help.
Also, i am ok about my amputation cuz it was done to save my life.

I have eczema and acne and have scars mostly from eczema. I don't like using oil and leaving it on my skin because of my acne issues, but I do recommend massaging scars and then washing the oil off; I use olive oil. Funnily enough, I use Olay Definity Night Cream and that has helped more than anything. I am self conscious about the scars on my face, neck and chest so when I go to work, I use Maybelline Super Stay 24 concealer to cover them up. It blends wonderfully, so it doesn't look like I am wearing makeup on my chest or neck. You could use concealer on your feet and only you would know.
The posters who say you notice it more than anyone else does are correct. But I like covering them up for me. My eczema scars look like burn scars
These are scars from this spring. When I touch them, like washing my face or putting makeup on, they turn bright red and it takes a bit for them to settle down. The first pic is with no makeup but about 30 minutes after washing my face. The second pic is with the concealer only, no other makeup.
