Random Questions - Makeup and Beauty Style
I am stealing the idea from another forum and half of the title from TNB, but this is a thread for just that - random questions that may not require a whole thread, but that someone may be able to answer.
I'll start:
Does anyone know where I can find the names of the shadows in NYX Cosmetics' "Aquamarine" Trio?
I keep hearing that some MAC products I want are permanent in Asia. Is there some way for a consumer from the US to access them/order them?

Also, deep vs. dark (ie makeup tones and bronzer)? Someone explain?

you mean like in the mineralize skin finish? If I remember correctly the naming nomenclature goes something like this...
1. skin tone (light, medium, dark)
2. depth of skin tone (plus, dark, deep)
NOTE: not every skintone has every depth range (does that make sense?)
So from lightest to darkest shade you would have: Light, light plus, medium, medium plus, medium dark, medium deep, deep, deep dark, deepest deep
I'm a deep dark in the MSF natural. I used it as a light powder foundation in the summer and its a really good match. Its sheer enough that it will match a wide range of people.

Try ordering though the 800 number. I know you can order pro products this way, so you might be able to order permanent products from other divisions of MAC? It's worth a shot.

Funny you mention mineralize skinfinish - I just discovered the shade Sun Power and love it. I am using it as a bronzer/contour this summer. Still looking for a darker, less ruddy bronzer for myself. The darker you get, the ruddier. I have been through many a matte bronzer in the last year. I pass off the ones I don't like to my sister and mother. I don't think they have bought any bronzer in a year lol.

You might be able to get them online? I know for their most recently collection (the trios based around their most popular/best selling colors) you could get all of them, regardless of what was available where you lived online....

If one is going to be applying one coat of lengthening mascara and one coat of volumizing, which would one apply first?

I'd apply lengthening first. Volumizing formulas tend to be thicker and therefore it would be more difficult to apply another mascara on top of it IMO. At least that's my thinking anyway. But hey try the other way around and see...

Thanks - I was sort of leaning toward that but I had no reasoning behind it.

does anyone have any alternatives to using primer before using eye shadow? I'm trying to streamline the products I use and this seems to be an easy place to start

Or a cream eyeshadow in a similar color? What I do, when I want a long-lasting look and don't have time for the primer to get tacky, is put on a cream shadow and immediately the powder. Mist with setting spray when done with my whole face, and BAM all day shadow with no creasing.

i can't get away without a shadow primer since my skin is super oily so i use an eyeshadow base or a neutral mac paint pot (for me groundwork). if i really want to make a color pop or if i need the color to be long wear i'll do a colored pencil on top of the shadow base. i like the sephora jumbo pencils for extra color pop!

Does anybody know if there is any truth to the rumor that MAC is launching a collection inspired by Marilyn Monroe in the Fall of 2012? Allure Magazine says so, and MAC is being coy about it and not answering the queston.

According to all the blogs I've read it seems to be true.

Question for any MAC heads:
WTF with the Face and Body foundation? I saw on temptalia.com that MAC is repromoting it in 50 mL containers as of Wednesday and it appears permanent. The 50mL size will be $27, while the 120 mL container was $33. That is TRIPLE the price per oz. Does anyone know about this? Will the large size be available at PRO stores? Anyone? Anything? I am mildly panicked.

From my understanding, its been reformulated. When I tried it a while back, it would streak after about 2-3 hours. I've heard that a lot of people had that complaint. You might be able to find it at the CCO in the old formulation in the larger bottles. I'm going to the CCO near me this weekend...shoot me the color via PM and I'll let you know if I find it. If you like the formulation as is...you might want to stock pile it now.
