Foundation/concealer product recs

I've been having acne issues, and I need a foundation, and concealer that really work. I have sensitive skin, even more so because the dermatologist has me using topical medication. It's also oily, but when I use my bare minerals foundation It makes it flakey, even if I do use a moisturizer. I would prefer something on the cheaper side, but am willing to pay more for something that works. So a really good coverage, healthy(so it won't break me out and isn't loaded with junk), not mask-like or cakey foundation and concealer. Oh, and a primer, preferably drugstore? I am so frustrated with my skin!

Revlon primer. Around $7. In the tube.
Neutrogena skin clearing foundation $11 and concealer $6, hard candy glamoflauge, it's kind of heavy so be careful, but the coverage is great.

I've used the almay clear complexion with blemisheal, and it seems to work pretty well. I done wouldn't say it had extreme coverage, but I do like that it is supposed to actually help your skin.

don't buy face primer - you can use Monistat Anti-Chafing gel because it has all the same ingredients as any primer and costs about $3 per tube.

I second the Monistat anti-chafing gel. I keep an eye on drugstore.com or vitacost.com for good deals and buy a few at a time (using ebates of course!)

It lasts forever and, for me, works great for inner thighs when I'm wearing a skirt or dress.

As for the coverage - I'm stumped there. I can't find the combination of good coverage AND matches skin tone AND lasts more than an hour or so. Oh, AND doesn't make my skin issues worse. Sigh.

How is the glamoflauge for your skin? I'll look up the anti chaffing gel, it's an interesting thought. Its definitely cheaper, which is always a plus!

Ive tried almay clear complexion foundation and concealer. the coverage is ok and its pretty affordable. I like it mostly because it has salicylic acid to help with acne issues.

It's never broken me out. I have terribly sensitive skin, and that says something. Just remember a little goes a long way with it.

If you are using prescription topical medication from your dermatologist I would not recommend using a skin clearing foundation as it will have additional medication in it which may dry out your skin. If your skin is sensitive like mine, it will actually need moisture just as much as it needs acne treatment. I would instead go for a gentle foundation like Neutrogena healthy skin. You may also consider Clinique products... Even though they aren't drugstore they tend To be more affordable then other higher end lines.

I have one more question-- when Put my foundation on, it's not a smooth application at all. Even of I use a ton of moisturizer, It(the moisturizer) stings my face like crazy and doesnt seem to do too much. All the videos I've seen the foundation seems to go on so smoothly, but it's almost like it separates on my skin... I have a kind right now that I apply with my fingers, and it's like when I rub it in some patches get covered but some don't. It's even a full coverage foundation, but other foundations ive tried do this as well! It looks almost cakey in a way, but worse, and it's disgusting. Id love a natural finish, so you couldn't tell you were really wearing makeup, and I don't know why my foundation won't look good at all! Is it my application, using my fingers or maybe not enough product? Would using some sort of primer help this? That's why I asked for recommendations earlier but then someone told me I shouldnt need One, just a moisturizer... It doesn't help really! And it's so annoying and discouraging. I'm sick of always worrying about how my skin looks. :P

At times I tend to breakout... I have a powder foundation that gives me a healthy glow and provides beautiful coverage.
NYX stay matte powder foundation and it stays put through sweat.... And Ulta is having BOGO on NYX right now.

I'm oily with acne prone skin and I can't use the silicone primers like smashbox or the monistat "dupe" that most people use. They do make my skin smoother, but do almost NOTHING as far as mattifying the skin or helping my makeup last longer. They almost seem to have the opposite effect and seemed to increase oil production.

I've found one GREAT oil control primer...in the drugstore and its about $5. Its by Black Radience and the reason why I love it is it contains Kanolin clay, which is an oil absorber. It keeps my makeup in place, keeps my skin matte but not too dry, and bonus is that it makes an EXCELLENT eyeshadow primer too! I also use a powder primer from Meow Cosmetics that has Kanolin Clay in it and I'd been wondering if I mixed a bit of the powder with my moisturizer if it would make a good liquid primer for liquid foundation...then I stumbled upon this in the store and I've been in love ever since. Black Radience products are in Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens I belive.

The other primers that I swear by us the Sephora brand oil control primer, and Korres Mattifying Primer. The Sephora is about $17 and the Korres is a bit more expensive at $34. Love them both, though the Korres works better for me in the spring/fall. The Sephora works well year round but the black radience is my go to primer in the hot, sweaty, humid summer months. I've been using it in the 100+ degree heat we have been having and my makeup lasts a good 7-8 hours with only a few blots after about 5 hours...and I'm outside in the heat a few hours daily.

It depends...each persons skin is different. The person that told you that might have dryer skin and might not need the primer. Most people do need a primer if they are combo or oily (combo people tend to need it in the oily areas). If just moisturizer isn't working for you (which it never did for me either) then try a primer. There are no right or wrong "answers", steps, routines, or rules. It's all trial and error and figuring out what works for YOU.

Now I will say this, if you are applying you foundation with your fingers, then the oils from your fingers might be what is causing it to seperate. Try applying using a foundation brush or a flat top buffing brush. Elf makes some decent ones that are cheap ($1-$3) and you can find them in Target. You can also apply using a make up wedge/sponge/beauty blender and get good application (I use an elf foundation brush and follow up with an Elf flt top buffer to work everything into the skin). Also, you might want to set your foundation with a bit of powder. That will help it "stick" to your skin better also.

I will now be driving a county over to try this Black Radiance primer. I use the Monistat one just fine, but I must now try this. No blotting for upwards of 5 hours in 100 degree heat? Today is the day to test this.

I LOVE this primer. There are a few reviews online for it if you want to check out what a few other folks have to say. What made me purchase it (besides the great price) is that it is parabin free. I recently found out that Black Radiance is owned by Markwins which is the same company that owns Wet and Wild and their products and quality have improved drastically over the past few years. I've noticed that Black Radiance is starting to get a new look as well so I suspect that we'll see the same improvements with this brand as well.

So far so good. This is my second day and I have had no problems with it. It controls oil a little better than other silicone primers for sure, but doesn't leave the skin looking dry or patchy. Yesterday I didn't have to blot until about 2 pm, which is a marked change for me. Let's see how long this holds up. It will be in the 90's today again, so I have so far been impressed with the holding power.

How goes your search for products? I meant to second the suggestion from a poster above that you should concentrate on skincare and not add makeup that tries to treat the problem as well. That is a lot going on. I would look for makeup that will not exacerbate the problem, let the skincare work and wear sun protection at all times so as not to undo the work that your skincare is doing.

That Olay/Covergirl rapid recovery foundation is good; it has foundation and a serum combined to moisturize while covering your skin. It's got a light/light-medium coverage. I'd heavily recommend a primer with it though because it can be oilier for more combo/oily types. I use a smashbox face primer and my MAC oil absorbing studio fix powder with it and it does wonders. I have combo/oily skin (in the winter it becomes combo/dry) but as long as I use the right stuff with it, it works fine.
