What decade is your style?
I am leaning more towards 40s-50s pinup models. Short, curly do with flowers, black eyeliner, mega lashes and red lips.
I think I've found my 'look.' Yours? |
I don't know the answer to this for myself, but I think it's a great question!
|
don't know if i have a look as my hair (top front) changes it's mind from day to day! however i lean towards the 40s look, except i rarely wear lipstick and if i do it is a true blue red, but blotted and lip balm over it!
my clothes are 'retro' in that i cannot afford to keep up and just replace whatever needs to be replaced as i go along. i do love the 40s look, i have old photos of my mom where she looks super great! i think it was a great look. |
Mid to late 70s teenaged boy.
|
The "hippie, peace and love" look. My family, especially my mom has told me that I'm a "make love not war" kinda girl lol but I agree lol

I'm a rather unfashionable combination of 70's low-rise tight jeans hippie, leather jacket and boots biker chick, flannel shirted redneck. I've pretty much dressed the same for the last 40 years.
If I could go back in time I would want to be a Roaring 20's, prohibition era , gangster moll. |
Makup style, definitely the 40's-50's retro pinup style...black cat eye liner, and red lips. Sometimes I will edge it up a bit and go total goth vamp, but 90% the black liner/red lips work for everything I wear.
Clothing style depends on my mood, the weather, and the situation....and I can't really define it by era. Basic black is my armor of choice most of the time. Execu-goth for work, lots of black pinstripes, and touches of red or white. Days off, rocker goth, with band shirts, jeans, and Converse or my beloved clunky black shoes (of which I have many styles). I've dressed the same way for almost 20 years...just the cut of clothes has changed over time. |
For make up it usually goes between pinup/retro (cat eyes, red lips, serious lashes, matte face) to Bronzed Godess (bronzed everything, smudgey liner, glossy lips).
For clothes-I have no idea. Depends on everything from season to who I'm going to be seeing (or be seen BY) that day. I get "Hollywood rock chic" a lot because I love prints, leather, dramatic jewelry and anything leopard but I wouldn't know how to sum up my look coherently. If it helps, I would love to have Rihanna and Solange's closets. |
definitely 60s - winged eyeliner all the way!
but more Adele than Amy Winehouse! :D |

If and when I do dress up. I've always loved punk and dark clothing since high school. I love cat eyes I suck at them but when I get em right, I love them. I want to find a good red lipstick. I don't dress up. Rarely. I wear sports bra, t shirt , work out clothes or sweats. Because idgaf and I have no where to go. I go to class and after class I usually work (have a uniform) and if I don't work I sleep (yay for sweats) and go to the gym. I refuse to waste money on bigger bras until I lose enough weight (which hopefully my breasts go down in size by that time so I can wear my old bras) so I only have one bra that's the correct size. Which is why I wear sports bras. I know they say not to waste your time waiting but bras are expensive so I will have to. |

Check out NYX's reds. I have a matte red from them and it's one of the best I've ever tried. Super pigmented, not too drying (all matte lipsticks are dry to me. That's the nature of the beast), and if you can find them on the ground not to expensive either. |

With my new 'do, I look like an 80s girl
But I also like the 40s too. Sometimes I also channel the 70s. |
Growing up, it was 40s all the way. Now, I sometimes like a variation of the 60s Brigitte Bardot look, or the natural, wavy hair, minimal makeup 70s hippie /rock chick look.
I'd be more into the pinup girl look for myself if I looked better in red lipstick. I look great in 40s and 50s hairdos, though! I taught myself from watching old movies when I was growing up, then later I acquired a couple of books on how to do vintage hair. So much fun. |
I strive to stay "current". Young women can embrace a style decade, but, as an older woman, I do not want to look like I'm stuck in a decade. It's just sad.

/\ Eh, that got me thinking. I probably am too old for trying a 'decade'style than...but what is the definition 'modern'?
IDK though...I'll be 38 years month next month and I still feel like I'm between young and older. http://images58.fotki.com/v612/photo...3021835-vi.jpg This is my skin with no foundation, no powder and nothing else beyond lipstick, eyeliner and mascara. I have a few lines and wrinkles starting to show but eh, no bigger. I just need to start taking better care of my skin now... So, do I look and older person trying to achieve a look meant for younger people? ETA: Or am I overthinking this too much? I like how it looks and my first instinct is that it looks good and I don't look 'old'. |
i think you look great, and 38 is young!
i think dressing/wearing your hair/makeup in a style from another decade does not make a person look old if it is a good look. and, i believe any age can wear any style as long as it is flattering. i mean, in any decade, there are always older women, so they should not dress current? what makes a person look old is dressing in a style that does not work for them. today's styles are great in that there is no one thing that is right, wrong. skirts can be any length, pants any width..... not like it was when i was growing up. there are some styles (clothing, hair, makeup) that were unattractive even in that decade and it think those are the ones that make a person look dated). |
I think you look great and don't look like someone trying to look like a youngster. Besides, the 30's IS young!
You look great in red. |
Oh wow, der! I thought just hit me. I'm talking about makeupand hair styles. I do not want to dress 40s or 50s. I love tunic sweaters with skinny jeans too much. I don't like cone breasts either. I like the style but keep it muted (like above) for work. I go heavier on the eyeliner and lipstick for going out.
