how often do you purge your stash? i have a "use everything up" mentality but i think there are somethings i'll never use yet i've been hesitant to throw them out.

how often do you purge? do you force yourself to throw out things that you don't use? do you donate things? any thoughts and ideas welcomed!

I have a use everything up mentality too. But I draw the line when things start smelling funky. If it starts stinking, it goes into the trash!

If I just WANT SOMETHING TO GO I try to find other uses for it or make it into something else. For example, I made a lipstick I hate into a lip gloss and eyeshadows I never use into a highlighter (still trying to perfect the formula but I'll be sharing that soon)!

If it's something I never use but I know one my friends or family members might love, I sanitize (very important!) it and pass it on to them. I've gotten rid of a lot of eyeshadows and liners that way.

I'm really bad at remembering what I have and have been known to purchase 2 and 3 of the same items. In that instance, I will sanitize the newer item and give to my sister. I just recently sent her a huge box if makeup...a lot of it brand new because it was a dupe of something I already had or I'd purchased two of the same darn thing.

I don't purge. I just buy more storage stuff to keep it in.

I have a problem...I have more makeup than I could ever wear in 2 lifetimes, yet I can't part with any of it.

If I haven't used it in a year, I toss it or I give it away. I have the same rule about my hair products/clothes - after six months/one year of non-use, buh-byeeeee!
Finer, mixed with coarser strands, low-porosity, wavy curly whirly hair...3A, 2C hair. Medium thickness, medium elasticity.
S-shaped hair with corkscrew ends. My hair is even more confused than me ;p

Currently a fan of TiGi products, (rock on, TiGi Curlesque styling creme!) but that will soon change - I am a self-avowed product junkie! Yay!
BIG fan of supersoaker method - thanks Rudeechick!

I don't have that much make up. Just the basics I wear almost everyday. I have several unused black eyeliner pencils and light brown eyebrown pencils. But that's my only "stash" and it doesn't take up much room.

I wear a lot of MAC stuff and MAC will give you a free lipstick when you return six empty containers. So I get rid of some stuff that way.

But mostly, I just use stuff up bc I wear a lot of the same stuff every day.

I worked on my eyeshadows last night and lipsticks will be next. I have several full sized LS that came with a gift after I purchased a foundation or shadow. The Clinique ones are fairly old and I have several duplicates. They would put the same color in a gift for so many months. I do not wear lipstick everyday. I do love a few of the colors. There is a neutral & subtle pink/red that matches very well with my skin but I don't need all of that. I could get it down to 10 lip sticks or less and the rest would be my chubby sticks, sheer's and just a few glosses. On a day to day I end up doing chapstick or tinted Burt's Bee's.

My main problem is the set up. I have a vanity in the bathroom and a 3 drawers that I could use for makeup. Do I? No. Most the time I end up doing my makeup in the living room while watching videos. It's my morning thing. I keep my makeup in smaller/medium sized rubbermaid containers with lids and handles. I've got hair stuff shoved in most my drawers. I've gotta work on that. Just put it up and take out what I need.

I did a decent purge about 6-8 months ago because I was running out of room. I'm running out of room again and tried cleaning out over the weekend, but I didn't get rid of much at all. I plan to revisit this weekend. Otherwise I need to re-work my storage system.
